WASD Fixes - Movement and Cursor Follow

WASD is pretty close, but has a couple of issues. Aside from the weird moving in place bug I mentioned in the support category, there are two things that should be adjusted to make WASD more usable.

  1. Add an option to decouple movement from the left mouse button completely. It’s frustrating to try to use an ability, slightly miss the mob, and then start moving. Let’s keep movement focused on the keys, and have the mouse for ability targeting and use.

  2. Add an “All - Follows Cursor (Except Evade)” to the WASD keyboard control dropdown. I’ve found that the short range option works fine for my rogue in just about everything, but the Maul and Rampage abilities for the werebear appear to be categorized as short range, and thus attack in whatever direction you’re facing rather than where the mouse is pointed, which makes it really uncomfortable to play. Separating evade from the pointer would remove any random abilities that tend to behave in this way without having to manually fix them.

Yes this 100%. WASD movement is almost perfect with only those 2 being my only issues with it.

Number 1 as an option not mandatory. That’d be good.

Here’s another thread that talks about your #1: thread
Give it a vote, it’s already at 23!

Went ahead and voted on that one, but since it doesn’t address issue #2 I’ll leave this here.

Definitely the second one. WASD works great, but the fact that I can’t tie evasion to WASD and let my Dancing Strikes work via mouse is a PITA, hence I needed to go “All via mouse” which is … meh.

Being able to choose how a momentum skill (traversal/movement) acts–facing/WASD movement aimed or cursor aimed–and being able to choose the same for dodge would make WASD just about perfect. Rogue’s Shift seems to follow facing while Volatile Reversal follows mouse like I want it to, and Rogue’s Shift really suffers from lack of accuracy because of this. I want to dodge WASD and all move skills toward mouse which is how PoE2 works and it feels amazing. Additionally, there seems to be a couple skill queueing issues here and there I don’t remember having with mouse move, and being able to dedicate left mouse to a skill with no movement at all would be great (it kinda exists but doesn’t work).

Also, not sure what they could feasibly do to improve this, but the game’s world isn’t lined up for WASD, you’re always just off center. poE2 was built ground up with WASD in mind so all “long” pathways are at 90 and 45 degree angles. Maybe holding shift with WASD movement lets you left-click to move to ease up those moments, should left click be slottable to attack only? That’d work great IMO.

It was so much annoying after POE2 WSAD movement and their approach to dodge/evade. I still have problems to do a proper evade in LE just because there is no option to exclude it from general setting about spells targeting at mouse cursor.

#2 is the biggest issue for me. When I’m Rogue trying to Shift and evade, I either need to make it movement based and my Shift becomes all wonky and hard to target, or I use mouse target and accidentally evade into stuff I’m trying to avoid lol. Hopefully this get’s fixed with issue #1 and then WASD will be perfect for me
