Regarding the Recent Gold Exploit

Greetings Travelers,

We have had an exhilarating week, celebrating your victories and lamenting your defeats. We cheered on every attempt at Aberroth we could find. We watched in sadistic glee as he demolished the hardcore leaderboard. Spending that time with the community is a once in a lifetime magic, and it is humbling to say the least.

This weekend a new gold dupe exploit was brought to our attention. The integrity of Last Epoch’s player economy remains paramount to our mission of creating an amazing ARPG experience. We wish to thank you, the community, for bringing this to our attention promptly.

We detected the exploit and temporarily disabled player-to-player trading (which was the method being used ) via server-side flag, while we investigate further. We’ve also increased our monitoring and are taking action against abusers. These actions have already had positive impact, as we see prices across the bazaar stabilizing.

We do take exploits of any kind seriously and will be moving swiftly to administer bans / suspensions where needed. Currently, we do not have a timeline on re-enabling player-to-player trading - but we will keep you updated as we can.

Thank you for your continued support of Last Epoch and may your Nemesis drop many Legendaries.

And thanks to the entire EHG team for continuing to be diligent, open with communication and feedback and for making this game better with every step. Monumental, guys. Keep up the great work.

[EDIT - this was posted before I realized how much gold got into the market before the stated action]

Thanks for halting the market to handle it. Too much gold got into the economy with the first seasons exploit. And while it may feel like punishing the innocent sellers, not halting the market punishes everyone who isn’t able to sell stuff to exploiters. And so you have those that innocently benefitted from the exploit and a lot of players who now have a lot less gold compared to those people.

Rolling back transactions may also be the best solution if EHG isn’t able to react quickly enough. Chris Wilson explained very well why the integrity of the economy is tantamount. timestamped below.

A number of people will definitely stop playing if the economy breaks and upgrades suddenly became way out of reach.

Appreciate the response. Unfortunately trade was halted way too late. The dupe ran all weekend and destroyed the Bazaar pricing. People who did not cheat accumulated ridiculous amounts of gold as a result.

An economy reset may be required at this point. But honestly with POE launching next week I would not expect many players to stick around and see what happens.

I love this game, and I will 100% return in 1.2

But I will never roll MG again, burnt too many times by EHG’s inability to swiftly react to gold exploits

No, they just got the gold worth for what they were selling (at the pre-crash price). They might have gotten the gold in a day instead of in a week, but they got the same value they would normally.

This can’t be understated. They can’t keep letting the economy break and leaving all of that exploited gold in the economy. That was the main reason why I didn’t play legacy this season, as I was soooo far behind in gold.

Maybe early in the weekend, but as it goes along prices inflate above what they normally would. We already saw it happen in the launch.

Outstanding! Great response, both in time and posting the notice here.

you realize that every launch has had the economy destroyed by a gold dupe right? This inflation is not normal. Red rings are not 1b by day 6

Aaaaand the game is dead again. Cool cool. Really had hopes for this cycle.

When will you learn that unless you completely remove the influx of gold aka doing a rollback asap the game is cooked? Every single minute you wait with a rollback you just make it worse as players that are not aware of the dupe invest more time and are getting burned by a rollback.

See you… never again, I guess.

Better late than never, but economy is already broken beyond repair. I hope that you at least issue permanent hardware bans to people buying and selling, RMT has become cancer of games like this.

hi EHG,
Is there any way we can get one time experience transfer from MG to COF? Items can be locked behind MG if you actually switch to COF, but losing all progress of grinding due to this gold exploit is a bit disappointing.
Still if not possible, appreciate your game and work!

To late i already uninstall.
How they say in your country,
“fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”

I’m certain no one test MG functionality (and how to abuse it ) properly in CT cause your CT ppl are mostly COF enjoyers and don’t care on MG.

Thanks for addressing this, EHG.

For future reference, if something of this magnitude occurs again… what is the current best method to communicate and report? thanks!

the damage is already done the prices of bazaar are still 3 to 5 times higher on all the good exalted items/idols/good uniques so there is nothing to celebrate i sold my rings for 40 milion each they are now still 150-200 milion now yeah im not gonna continue to play MG faction i grinded my ass every day i just had gotten rank 11 and then this gold dupe happens no point playing anymore

If they roll back they’ll also lose players.
In fact, right now, if they don’t do anything the people that are moving up in CoF and didn’t have anything to sell and are having a hard time because prices are up will be upset.
If you do a rollback everyone that has legit items in MG, plus everyone that is in CoF is upset.

This might simply be another situation where EHG has to bite the bullet and endure it. Some players will leave no matter what they do. So stability (meaning doing nothing) might be the least worst option.
