1.0 Server Status Thread

They just mentionned the servers will be offline for about an hour to deploy some diagnos apps to help them fix the issues…

1h waiting for going in next location - nice)

If you’re hating on launch issues you clearly didn’t play D3 on launch or don’t remember how horrific it was for weeks

Just to remind you:
Eleventh Hour Games | New Partnership - News - Last Epoch Forums
This investment does many wonderful things for EHG and Last Epoch, including:

  • Guaranteeing the stability of our development pipeline through the full 1.0 release of Last Epoch
  • Allowing funds for required hardware, like more testing machines, and server infrastructure to support Multiplayer
  • Allowing us to hire and contract industry experts and consultants for the most challenging aspects of development and live operations
  • Allowing us to expand our team (we’re hiring, join us!)
  • Allowing us marketing capital for the 1.0 release of the game - this means more players to share Eterra with!
  • Ensuring our stability and growth as a studio for years to come

And Can we expect to get in and play on launch or will the servers melt? : r/LastEpoch (reddit.com)

We’ve scale tested for months with third parties, consultants, the help of infra providers, and our own backend team. We have the ability to scale servers quickly, have reserved a large amount of bare metal machines, and do not have a maximum spend for cloud overflow- it’s all elastic. From the extensive testing we’ve done, unless we do have a really crazy turnout, we should be stable. It’s not lost on us that many much larger companies than us have had issues at launch though… We’re optimistic and if there are issues it certainly won’t be for lack of effort, spend, or ignorance to the importance of launch day.

If we do have issues I promise that we’ll stay very communicative and you can be 100% certain we’ll be all hands on deck working to resolve anything that comes up. We understand what’s on the line.

I will say that this is probably the most stressing thing to the team as we’ve seen games be review bombed and eviscerated when there are launch issues. I remember being frustrated when games I was excited for had launch issues in the past, but now being on the other side of it I’ve seen how much of an emotional toll it can take on a team to face hatred for something that they have tried hard to prepare for but it not be received/gone well despite best efforts. Just in general I think it’s a good thing for the gaming community to understand the impact those types of things have on development teams. That’s not me asking for leniency for our team, just rather an insight I feel worth sharing for gamers in general.

Another thing I’ll share because it’s interesting and something I didn’t understand before being in game development (before LE) - it’s nearly never the game servers that have issues at launch as those are easy to scale as long as you have the funds and willingness to pay the server providers (typically Google or Amazon), it’s more often an issue with services like login/authentication/database rate limiting. We use Steam and other services that are battle tested at scale for these things.

But, in summary, we’ve prepared heavily and have every reason to suspect we’ll be in good shape come launch day. If there are issues we’ll be communicative and working to address anything that comes up immediately.

Thanks all, sorry for the long post here

arent the servers suppose to be off rn?

I hear you my dear friend. That’s exactly what i said to a rightfully unhappy customer at my work aswell. I told him that is common to expect failure since its something that usually happens. No big deal

Hey Crybabys, Its a Game like Diablo 2 Ressurected with offline mode which works. The Multiplayer is an extra tool to get a better gaming expierience with Friends. If you use your car metaphoric. You have a car which can drive, but you have no seats for other people to drive with. So its a working game, but only for you alone. Give the Dev the Chance to get the servers stable. Take your dummys and play offline for some time. Its annoying to see so much babys who think they are Gamer :frowning: If you complain about others, become a Dev. make an ARPG and do it better. If you do so, you can complain and cry about other people, who do a great Job, but have starter issues.

its ok

I do understand that the dev are under a lot of pressure, but it is always the same story for the last 15years, doesnt matter the game (BF, COD, Diablo…) they should understand that if there is hype for the game they should increase the servers for the 1st week… is it just about being affraid to loose money? Or they can wait for a week for the game to be stable?
How about just renting servers for the launch and ensuring everything goes smoothly

Εxactly that’s the sad part, game industry made it a norma these days. Αnyway, be well and have fun

What you consider “plain stupid or just dumb” is just me being well experienced. I have witnessed several games being launched for the past 20 years. One of them being out for years in Korea that hat server outages for days when they launched in the west - just to name one. Or other games that had long on going betas before they were launched and whatnot with the same or even worse things that happened to ppl trying to play on day 1. It just doesnt matter how long they have been out, beta or not, its a launch!!! These things happen, believe it or not!! Its a small company compared to the ones I have seen launching games. But hey, you do you being toxic and offensive with zero clue on how to deal with mishaps. XD

Thing is, I want to play with friends. Offline mode is cool but it’s not something that I bought the game for.

LOL thats crazyy

hehe, it’s economically speaking not a simple decision for them to make, to spend a lot, a lot of money for 2-3 days, every new league launch. So kinda make sense

its not always server capacity. Its software too, sometimes software you made, more often than not software you rely on from others. You cant simulate these kinds of things. And also, even it was a lack of server issues, servers are expensive, and cloud solutions unreliable. You dont invest hundreds of thousands just for a period of a week. The load will spread, the bugs will be fixed. Just stop being impatient. If your car breaks down you are also not ging to ask directly for a refund, but allow some time for the garage to fix it.

Reading this while not being able to play online, well thats a new level of critical hit.

Yes, that’s exactly it and we pretty much already know that this isn’t different. There is one or more services that run in the background that are breaking under the pressure. You can have the most insane servers, but it doesn’t matter if one of the online services breaks in the background.

I bet some of them would lol. They will get it fixed and it will be a great game.
