I want to harp on this because it’s my biggest complaint. It’s why I’m so annoyed, and it’s why I’m directing that annoyance specifically at Aaron. Gatekeeping for his own benefit as a YouTuber/streamer/content creator is absolutely the plan.
According to the Icy Veins Section Manager on Discord:
Aaron came up with the idea of spreading it over a week, creating Warlock Week, due to amount of content he needed to produce.
The written version is what we get provided by Aaron and we release it on the schedule he agreed with EHG and than with us.
Aaron, when given the opportunity to do the Warlock reveal as a thank-you by EHG, came up with a format that derives maximum benefit for himself. It was his idea to spread it out over a week, which obviously is beneficial to him as a small YouTuber. When his reason for that is “the amount of content he has to produce”, and the content he produced is just reading the text on the screen, it’s not really believable that he had good intent.
But the real part to pay attention to is that IcyVeins is only publishing the written copy he gives to them, and he is deliberately providing them with copy that drives you to watch his videos if you want to learn everything (or really even anything). There is no disguising the intent in that.
Making blah videos where he just reads the text on his screen is whatever. Withholding information from text posts so that you have to watch his monetized videos that blast you with plugs for his channel and Patreon is scummy and disrespectful. It doesn’t matter that he did the crocodile tears apology tour and condensed the delivery. The core bullshit remains the same - Driving people to watch videos that are living examples of “This meeting should have been an e-mail” by withholding information from a text format.
Some people defending Aaron keep saying stuff like “Oh why does it even matter, you can’t play the class yet anyway, you can’t wait a few days?”, and they’re all missing the point because that strawman is easier to thumb your nose at. The point is that EHG wanted Aaron to have the Warlock reveal to thank him for the contributions they feel he’s had to their game and its community, and instead of being grateful for that gift and doing right by it, he got dollar signs in his eyes and tried to take advantage of it for personal gain. That’s not the behavior of somebody who ever cared about the community or the game. It’s rotten and crooked and it should be called out. I hope the lesson EHG learns is that Aaron is not to be trusted to do right by them, their game, or their community, and they lock him out in the future from things like this.
