Upcoming bug-fix to Ballista

The reason items aren’t worth anything is that they’re useless for meta builds.

Also, for more than a week now, prices for meta unique items with legendary potential have continued to rise since dupers contribute billions of gold to the economy every day (without exaggeration), prices will continue to rise until these dupers are corrected, which more than 90% do not know about and foolishly believe that the increase prices are determined by similar builds…

As I’ve read in this forum, even some people who don’t really want to play them feel forced to do so to be competitive.

Which is also bad, yes. But people who defend OP builds with their lives won’t admit it.

OP builds they didn’t even invent. They pick the meta build from maxroll & co.

How is that so different from EHG providing a standardized build for competitions?

yall smoking crack…the build is not dead by any means…it will blow up 60% of the screen…not 2 screens…oh no cry me a river…damage is still precisely the same…crybabies

Just here to see if people are still nagging. :cowboy_hat_face:

There are oither ballisat builds which are super strong - I am playing one at the moment which does not involve a bug and is awesome

This is exactly why I was totally against any and all nerfs mid cycle.
Everything can be interpreted as a bug depending on how you look at it.
As a normal player I mainly spend my time to have fun. I don’t care about streamers with loud voices complaining or ladder positions.
If I spend my time on a build to enjoy I should be able to continue to do so until the cycle ends. Testing and bug fixes should be done before the cycle release not after.

When I see this post, I am so dispiriting, this is also mean I spent many times, and I got nothing.

I thought you are different from dddd.
Now, you say this is a bug, this action is not nerf, you just fix bug, what can i say, i only can do one thing, accept.

I have known your development stance from the beta version.
I want you to take care of what you care about. :+1:

Great job devs! Way to go to get as many players as possible to go to the new PoE league… You really diggin deep to find those bugs to nerf strong builds huh

I’m playing Ballista now. I really don’t care about the bug fix, glad they are fixing bugs. However you keep saying all you need to do is basic math, well that’s just not try as no where in the game tells you the area or radius of ballista. So please tell us all how we do the math with nothing to go off of. You need the variables or you can’t do any math to understand if it is working as intended. This is the first time I have heard that ballista is not working as intended, no one has said this at any point in time till this post.

Congratulations! You are no better than any other dev. You’ve mastered the nerf. Must have hired someone from Bungie. Good job!

Have you ever read the description of the skill/node - small radius? With alt+ctrl to see the explosion skill that is triggered.
Have you levelled the character with ballista, or just specced into it once you had your 100+ dex gear and all skill points?

The visual progress is obvious. Base radius is about 2.7, rather small - fitting to the description of “in a small radius”.

50 dex with 4 points in the node means +200% area, which should NOT result in trippling the radius.

100 dex means +400% area. Which should NOT result in 5 times the radius. Not even 3 times the radius. 5 times the radius requires +1600% increased area. That’s a lot more.

The higher the area increases, the less growth of radius you will get, since each .1 radius increase means more area than the last .1 increase.

The explosion becomes so big that people should get suspicious how that can be with only 400% increased area.

BS. Surveys like that do not see wide participation. They never have. And for this one, the questions were carefully crafted to ensure a predetermined outcome. Obvious to anyone with half a brain and a statistics class.

Again, no one suspected since ver0.8.4. No one recommended this build ever mentioned anything about the blast area could be a bug. The bug passed their QC and stayed for so long, I would have expected a serious explanation and apology from the Dev how is this possible, and why is this happening now.
The problem is not about bugs, but people not knowing it getting “nerfed” in the middle of the cycle. This is a serious trust issue going on.

Just a quick & dirty example image that shows the proportions.
Green is base radius.
Both the red circles with 50 and 100 dex (200% and 400% increased area)
Blue circles are 50 and 100 dex with bugged radius (200% and 400% increased radius)

Small area is not numbers - can’t do math on that

Without real numbers you can not do the math (A = π r²). You need the area or the radius to get the other. Small area is not the information needed to do the math. Obvious has no place when talking about math.
Where did you find 2.7 exactly in the game, where is radius=# or area=# in the game? Without one of these in the game your point is invalid on doing the math.

Glad they are getting bugs fixed, it doesn’t matter to me as this is my last weekend playing as I will be starting to get my POE league starter prep.

Ever heard of the Unit Circle where the radius is defined as length 1? All proportional observations can be derived from this, it doesn’t matter at all if the initial radius is 1, 2.7, or 1337.

If the radius doubles, the area quadruples. Therefore, if the area triples, the radius can’t triple.

How I came to exactly 2.7 isn’t exactly relevant for the observation part, because proportions matter more than exact numbers - but I took the radius of provided by EHG in this thread for the non-bugged version, divded by 3 (since +200% multiplies the base by 3), so I had the base area, and from this I derived the base radius.

The entire purpose of an ARPG is to find broken builds and rise above. Complexity and things slipping past the devs is what allows for this. A perfectly balanced ARPG is one very few people continue to play. Power creep, unintended interactions, and meta shifts is the what causes ARPG’s to thrive.

I did not play explosive ballistas, but if the devs are not capable of testing and fixing something so simple and obvious before launch, they should not be fixing it 1 month into the cycle. This is terrible for player retention, there is nothing worse than investing your time and effort into a build, amongst a dev team that may heavily nerf you at any moment. Everyone will choose the ARPG where this isn’t the case.

And obviously the community is going to vote to fix these things mid cycle, the majority of players will not have discovered or be playing these builds, and will want their builds to be stronger relative to other builds. Most people are not thinking on a very deep level, and would end up creating D3/4 if you let them. If you’re nerfing someone else, why wouldn’t you vote yes? These kinds of surveys are extremely predictable and should not be given much credit. This is in line with asking the poor if you should take from the rich and distribute their wealth, their answer is obvious. The problem however, is the rich will then leave your country, and they were the ones generating it’s wealth. This is a very bad outcome long term.

An ARPG where the fun and strong builds get patched and nerfed out faster than new ones are introduced is a dead ARPG. This is why 99% of “fixes” should take place during new leagues when the META is shifted and new items, skills, and content is introduced.

When a survey is highly predictable, couldn’t one surmise that the surveyors, being fully aware of the expected outcome, only allowed the survey to take place as a means of deflection in the face of aversion?
