So basically the title. There is ZERO point in training dummies when you don’t see how much damage you did with certain skill, those numbers are so many that its impossible to understand what just happened.
It will be really helpful to have DPS log or meter to create, understand and develop our builds. Hopefully devs will add it.
Also it would be really nice to have damage recap on bosses
The problem is that they usually lead to toxic communities.
Not to mention all the community creators will only try to make guides for builds that have tons of DPS, not defensives, or mobility, or AoE, or … because the dummy ignores all that.
I mean, a damage spread per ability would be nice, but even then, with the DR mechanic on bosses it’s not gonna be completely balanced or correct.
I know they wonna put it in, just not without letting people use the dummy (or specific target) as a schlong si DPS meter.
“The problem is that they usually lead to toxic communities.” this is real issue for some ppl… Im unable to understand why personal dps log in semi-online game will break something…
Some sort of accumulator graph with damage/time per: 1 sec 10 sec 1 min on that dummy
Not get it. What is bad on knowing, how much dmg a given build does?
Because they aren’t personal.
They create a singular numerical ranking capability in an environment that has multiple requirements of a build.
Simple example: Content creators will want to ‘prove’ their build and basically go all out on offense rather than stack defenses. Because hitting a dummy (or a lower corruption boss) will then generate them a higher DPS number and generate more views/clicks/money.
This leads to a race to the bottom.
On top of that, all these forums will be complaining about “OP” builds doing 0.3% more dummy DPS than then, obviously their favorite build needs a buff, right?
It will never end. All builds will be reduced to that singular value, not playstyle, movement, cooldowns, complexity to combo, defenses, … Just damage, which is hardly the most important metric to begin with in the game.
The problem isn’t the value you get, it’s the people that inevitably will compare them. And especially in a game with Trade, that is a bad thing, because people will compare DPS to gold/hour and therefor ‘unfair advantage’ or some thing, and if it isn’t that, they’ll compare in some other way, or they’ll demand Leaderboards be adjusted when a popular build does 1% more dummy damage, or …
No game I know of ever, has had it overall benefited from DPS meters. The harsh line of FFXIV is probably the least bad option if you’re only in the game, just don’t go to non-official forums.
Yea its about the people and how far they are willing to go beyond the fun. But that’s their problem and their (twisted) philosophy. And some does that even without these meters. And its normal in real life to compare the comparable and compete.
But for someone who wants to nitpick his own build would be such graph a pro-tool. But just a tool.
For all the people already playing the game, I agree.
For attracting new players to the game … the build pissing contest folk are probably gonna be very loud on forums and potentially chase away people that just wonna have fun.
I mean, I would love a Damage breakdown tool myself, it could help me finetune my own builds, but I’ve been in gaming communities too long to know that it’s not a net benefit to communities.
Because once it’s there, don’t expect a lot of build help on forums, but rather a ton of people just saying “reroll X build, it’s simply better”. I, for one, would stop looking at builds trying to get people into a build they enjoy, because I genuinely expect trolls will throw numbers at my reply like it’s a magic I-WIN button and I don’t feel like putting half the community on my Ignore List, that’s too much clicking for me.
I dont see a problem tbh. Meter would be a great tool for immproving builds. Main problem with meter in games is that it sometimes leads to gatekeeping while forming parties which will be rather marginal problem in LE
Chill this is not coop mmo rpg …you can know your dps without hurt someone even if you will tell how much dps you did.
If someone feel insecure or like hurt crybaby because he did not same numbers its his problem.
Nah.
Toxic “min/maxers” desperately need to take their suitcases full of poison and leave. Y’all have infected and ruined enough games and game communities with your inability to have fun unless you’ve turned your passtimes into either a dick measuring contest or a proxy for a spreadsheet. Games without this kind of direct, explicit endorsement of DPS chasers are already bad enough.
You wanna chase the biggest fake numbers? Do some math. If that’s too much for you, you don’t deserve the big fake numbers.
Problem is in this game measure of your ego doesnt matter. There is literally 0 usage for it. 0 competetive group playing where you will be able to be like elitist kick others because of that. And it will be more helpfull in this game for new players to orientation in game with choose of class or know their limits in compare with their alts, other characters + it will give option to community make some line between what is possible and what is good on what lvl …to build creators too… its half solo game with most of new players who are pushing empower monos without knowledge and then they are stuck without enough dps and they dont know what to do …i swear there is half of community like this ask in chat all the time about why their build dont make dmg in compare with builds from youtube even everyone tellin them to do own build how they will be fine if they will not play meta.
You already have players up in arms because other builds get more ward. You have players demanding nerfs, leaderboard resets, players deleting their characters or leaving (at least saying they do). You can see the increase in toxicity regarding this issue in the last couple weeks. If you add DPS meters it’s just another metric for the same behaviour.
And yes, DPS meters won’t affect “normal” players. But it will still increase toxicity in the community as a whole and especially the forums/discord/reddit. So it’s still a net loss overall.
You can already use bosses as DPS meters. Make your changes, fight the boss, if you kill him faster, your DPS increased.
People will be toxic no matter what. Moot point to disregard a feature because of that.
Just because some people will be toxic is no excuse to create more toxicity.
There is a reason why no ARPG has this implemented. Not even D3/D4 which cater to the casuals. You only get this on GD and only as a 3rd party addon and that’s because it’s a mostly single player game.
Iwish there was a better way to see the damage i done for my own sake and my personal improvements because I then am able to switch points arround to get more dmg. I play with friends and i don’t give a rats ass about their dmg (as long as they not ask for tips) and have a good time.
All the fearmongering of toxic players who ruin the game… I LOVE those people! Instantly on the block list and another bullet dodged.
I mean, you can still see it fine with bosses, which, tbh, are the only relevant use for a DPS meter, since everything else is easy to kill. If you make changes and go to the boss and kill it faster, your DPS increased.
If it is this easy they can implement a dps meter as well because everyone can see it anyway…? Rly?
I think no ARPGs do this because if you implement a DPS meter then it shifts focus from “I’m having fun playing this build” to “I have to increase DPS to DPS+1”. You clearly see this mentality in PoE with PoB.
