Well, they have said that Chapters and more will be coming at a later date, even after official release.
They also did say that maybe with some luck an extra Chapter WILL be implemented on the official release of the game.
So you're advertising your game as finished 21st February but 3 chapters of story missing on release
Wait you don’t play ARPGS for the story? What does RPG mean in your mind?I understand part “A” is clicker but what about the rest of the letters? Also, keep in mind that new generations of definitions are invalid for logical human beings.
Diablo 4 released with have the affixes -you know the gameplay mechanic that you base your character around for most of the game- didn’t work, but hey ho what can you do?
People are being hard on OP, but even as someone who likes the game, I’m kind of disappointed by what was targeted for being in the game by 1.0. I was under the impression that we’d see the end of the story and a significant update to the monolith.
The story doesn’t exactly leave off on a satisfying spot that they can expand on in a continuation, it’s just left dangling and I’d assumed that you being sent to the end of time and told the bad guy ran off was just a placeholder.
The monolith of fate still seems pretty bare bones. The chests and mage prisons don’t do a lot to spice up the system that made me put the game on hold for months waiting for 1.0.
While some of the stuff coming is nice to have like the item faction system. Things like graphical upgrades and new masteries don’t feel that impactful for me. The graphics already seemed fine to me. I don’t need crazy shadows, lighting, and weather effects for my game where I’m spamming spells at tons of monsters. And as far as extra classes go, I haven’t even played all the ones available yet. Surely that’s more the kind of thing that could come in some later updates?
idk. I’ll still probably have some fun on release, but it’s kind of hard to imagine me playing more than one character until some endgame updates happen at least.
RPG = play a role, a character, represented through stats.
In early D&D, the narrative was just a bad excuse to roll some dice when fighting monsters or running into traps.
Without the story d&d has no existence, the story is the main part that keeps it alive hence you have lore masters which is the key role.
I will have to disagree on graphical upgrades, sadly they are the core with the story and yes we can accept half-products for a bit but it shouldn’t be the case ever in anything.
That is what D&D has evolved into. Quite often, early D&D wasn’t much more than a simple dungeon crawl, without the intricate storylines that are woven over many years.
Fear not, my mom made gluten free ones today.
I think 16 years of development is long enough to remove the beta tag. Right? Hopefully it’s never finished. Just keep making more stuff.
Certainly but it did evolve as it was needed, the core aspect will not keep anyone for a longer period, and years ago entertainment value was on a tad lower level, which includes subliminal stimuli that we need today.
Well, I’m an avid D&D player and DM who is a sucker for a good story and lore. But I can also enjoy some hack’n’slay fun that is all about the gameplay loop. I don’t need PoE’s story. It never caught my interest. The presentation fell flat. I play the game to see some big explosions go off and to build a character. My primitive mind was happy with it for some thousand hours, and I’m sure I will put more hours into it in the future.
If we argue that a story is an integral part of an RPG, I would say that a story needs to give a player meaningful choices that have lasting consequences for the progression and outcome of the story; otherwise, it’s just a glorified novel.
See I’ve never said that you or even myself would not enjoy simple hack&slash but rpg aspect also does include the lore which is mediocre for a bit.
As for the PoE story, it is flat, despite people’s subjective edginess towards Blizz, diablo delivers the best lore out of all the current arpgs.
I would be happy with the glorified novel personally but I will receive better graphics so I’m happy as it is for a moment, I personally just wish it will be slightly less clunky as it is the biggest pain for me.
is this leaguestart viable?
"When you start a new game, a message should pop up that very clearly states that “At present, you can play through the story to Chapter X, with the story to continue in future updates. In the meantime you can continue on to endgame modes once you reach the current story end.”
Seriously?? Like when did this ever happened in all human history? I really don’t know why any of you are complaining. I mean, is this the first ARPG you played like ever? It sure sounds like it, specially because this is EXACTLY the same as ALL other games in the genre work and have worked since… ever? Literally… no ARPG has ever been released with main story finished, they ALWAYS have had “acts” or “chapters” added, months, maybe years after being released… Some just happen to call them “expansions” and make you pay for them.
Geez.
Bless her wonderful soul
D&D is mostly a system. Or should be, at least.
You were playing with the worng Dungeon Masters.
Wow this is actually really harsh towards EHG IMO. Look at the many triple AAA studios that failed delivering anything close to LE and you know your wrong about the unfinished state IMO. Are you happy with D4 with all the millions of budget and big team because they finished the story? That game is still in alpha state.
Jeez. Its fine to have your opinions but this feels really unfair towards EHG’s budget, team and all the things the game contains. ESPECIALLY if you compare it towards other games within and outside this genre.
Wolcen is one of the many games who show this aswell. I guess you liked that game since they finished the campaign but left out the rest basicly…
Cough Tencent being small cough xD
They did it without them for a very long time at first though.
And even with tencent, this team and budget is still probably lower compared to blizzard D4.
And D4 doesnt even come close content wise, thats what i tried to say with it (same goes for many other failed triple A big titles).
Youve got your point though xD
