So you're advertising your game as finished 21st February but 3 chapters of story missing on release

When you went to see the film “Dune”, did you also consider it unfinished because the creators divided the film into several parts?

who plays an arpg for the story?

Having seen the original one in a single go, yes, I was unpleasantly surprised the story cut out halfway to credits. I blame it on the movie not having a “Part 1” subtitle to inform me though.

Butter about to run out. Stuffing my face with butterless muffins can choke me and taste worse too!

I suggest walking into a bathroom and saying this to yourself in the mirror.

Reddit is where this kind of phony, manufactured gamer rage tantrum belongs. Shoo.

Or, maybe, the story never finishes, because that would mean the end of existence…or, more pointedly, the game itself?

TBF, the first one cut ~1/2 of the book out as well, just not the second half.

It’s inherent of movies to cut parts of a book to fit their format, but it’s the first time I’ve seen a remake split up an already existing movie into multiple parts. And it’s not like they added more story into it…

They added pretty much everything David Lynch cut out of it likely 'cause it was too long. The 1984 film was 2 hrs 17 mins which was quite long back then. Dune part 1 was slightly longer & covered around half (possibly more) of the book.

I am not a fan of blueberry’s so can i have a different recipe?

I was actually fine with the D4 story until Neyrelle showed up…then it went to crap real quick.

Aside all the hyperbole and nonsense arguments (and speaking on others’ behalves in apparently not caring about the story) in this thread, I agree with the OP’s sentiment.

Without previous knowledge, it is somewhat jarring when you confront Apophis, get whisked away then just get told “oh yeah stuff’s messed up, there’s still stuff to do, but just hit up some MoF for now.”

Nowhere is it explained when you enter the game, by tutorial or prompt, or even at that end point, that the story is not final (it’s kinda vague how it’s told to you by Agony). You’re left thinking ‘wait, is the story not finished or is it just now I do MoF forever because it’s infinitely broken?’

When you start a new game, a message should pop up that very clearly states that “At present, you can play through the story to Chapter X, with the story to continue in future updates. In the meantime you can continue on to endgame modes once you reach the current story end.”

I was also a bit surprised to see nothing on the Steam page indicating the main story is not complete. It doesn’t bother me, I dont play ARPGs for the story mode…but I guess some people do. I imagine they will leave negative reviews unless the game really grabs them.

just one thing, if you play the game without this information you wouldn’t feel that the campaign was unfinished, you would normally play the game and at the end you would say… OH the campaign came to a halt, probably they will continue on an expansion or next ‘‘season’’.
Same as D4 storyline that is a crazy mess since D3. or POE before the update where they changed to what we have today 10 chapters

Oh, I didn’t know some people were buying a novel instead of an Arpg.
Perhaps they should put a disclaimer about this confusion

:hushed:

I tried the muffins, they were great.

Not sure why I’m bumping this, but correct me if I’m wrong – the game seems to have all the features (and more) that are mentioned on the Kickstarter page? Then it’s done.

All modern games go through a development process in which there’s a realization that some features need to be added for release, and some need to be put on the back burner and patched in later. You’d struggle to name a modern game that didn’t have this happen. Baldur’s Gate 3, which is game of the decade for many people, has a list of several dozen items that were cut for release.

The difference between LE & BG3 and other games is that the former two had early access periods, with developers who told players exactly what they were working on (including the features that had to be delayed). Most games, you have absolutely no idea what has been delayed until after release, unless someone working at the studio leaks that information.

Movie and tv production do the same thing, btw, as does the music industry with album releases. Literally every industry releasing entertainment products uses a fat trimming process during production to get the product out. “Director’s extended cut” editions and “previously unlreleased tracks” albums are things for a reason.

True, that.
I see a lot of similarities between Larian and 11H, easily my two favourite studios at the moment. Kindred spirits.
I only wish 11H would give up the live service model and work on other games after Last Epoch, they are so good it feels like a waste to have so much creativity used up on just ONE game, forever.

(Although after 6 months in BG3 I still feel like I will never ever need another game.)

Although I can understand and respect disappointment over the campaign not being complete for me personally I do not care. At all.

Story In ARPG’s?? Not why I play them at all. Much rather go read a book for that. The meat & potatoes of what matters to me this game does incredibly well. Arguably better then any other ARPG ever made at least to my tastes.

That being said the story will be added later. I’ve owned this game since 2021. I really am not gonna get caught up in the technicality of it being “finished” or not when I consider what is here in their 1.0 launch.

Yeah, that’s where the current story ends.
