theres maybe login problems for few hours on day 1 league not 30 days long problems and you are the minority who are on this position if they focused to make the game around normies like you who only play 2-3 hours a day then their game would die out you still cant comprehend that and why its important to be able play on day 1
Oh no. I’m so pwned. Whatever shall I do?
All your posts all say the same thing always. They’re just a variation of “Is too” and “Is too times infinity”. And then you fall back to just insulting people (or “My father can beat up your father”).
Honestly, it’s just like going back to 4chan. They’d welcome you with open arms to revive the glory days.
Oh, the irony in this. Someone that can’t even use proper punctuation and spelling.
Anyway, there really is no point in arguing with you, just like there is no point in arguing with a child. So I’ll just start ignoring you. Feel free to keep saying “Is too” and feeling like you’ve won (which is what trolls are after, after all).
It’s like he just can’t understand the demographics of who plays games & thinks that the hardcore (as in those who play all the time) or the “blasters” make up the majority of the players. Perhaps he also thinks that whales make up the majority of the players as well rather than only a few %.
Is this what it’s like when I’m being a dick & spamming the forums just with no attempt at spelling, grammar or punctuation? And a less droll, more immature sense of “humour” (if one can call it that).
Maybe if we got him to read his posts in a single breath, given the lack of punctuation, that might resolve the issue by itself?
Personally I can’t really relate to those that feel like they must be able to play on day one or their season is doomed. Well except streamers. They have quite good reasons not to like parallel releases.
I understand partly why it’s so popular. It’s fresh, those that invest a lot of time can get an headstart, the competition can be fun (though not for me) and it’s a fun feeling getting to start fresh with everyone else.
It’s just that those things do not motivate me. With PoE1 season model I played a lot less of the game I otherwise would have because the temporary nature of content is a major dealbreaker for me. But at the same time I want to enjoy the new mechanics and content so standard league isn’t really an option.
And in addition to that I find the time gated nature of the seasons to be… quite annoying. I very much feel like the devs are not valuing my time at all. I have shit to do. Sometimes I can’t start a season 1 or 2 months late. And since I can’t play for more than a few hours a week I don’t start at all since I won’t be progressing much anyway. I actually quit MH World till Iceborn after the first timed breach event (the one with the golden dragon) because I hate content that uses FOMO to motivate me. I’m allergic to this approach and I must really like a game to ignore this.
I guess PoE is not for me anymore. And LE probably won’t be either when they start doing season only content. Which is quite sad.
Anyway does somebody have recent infos about who the whales (i.e. those that are paying the bills of any Live Service Game?) are? Last time I checked (a few years back) those were mainly the “casual” players in the sense of having limited playtime per week.
Did that change?
Whales, as a definition of a player type are the biggest spenders but they are few in number. As to where the bulk of a live service game’s income comes from, I suspect only the developers/operators know & they’re unlikely to tell.
PoE 2 is a great game but it’s not for everyone AND… the ARPG market is extremely large. There are 10’s of millions of players many of them still looking for an ARPG.
There is no reason why LE can’t continue to grow and even surpass it’s original launch numbers and have 400 or 500k concurrent players. EHG just has to make a great game and add new content that attracts ARPG players.
Only question is does EHG do it. If a great ARPG came out tomorrow millions would play it. There are a lot of players out there.
“Back in the day” (that was around 10 years ago when I was in university) I read a book called “Play between the worlds” or something like that (quick edit: could have been “Between Worlds” as well - I don’t really remember).
It examined players and player behavior in WoW and Second Life. Back then the author came to the conclusion (at least if I remember correctly) that most spending was done by those that had limited time but the resources. It was a complex dynamic between those that produced the content (in Second Life), the big spenders (look at how much I have you don’t!), the regular folk and the steady spenders that did not pay as much individually into the game but were the most reliable source of income.
I think this changed drastically during recent years and the rise of mobile game like money making schemes. Stuff like FOMO, Premium Currency, Lootboxes, Gambling and so on. More stuff that prays on psychological mechanisms in our brains. This made whales way more important than before.
But that’s about all I really know about the topic.
This is mostly true if the game has P2W components. Having limited time and/or patience will lead to people with the resources to invest heavily into it. We see this in games like Diablo Immortal (and in Musk paying someone to run his PoE2 account ).
However, the psychology behind MTX (that provide no in-game advantage) is different. Those are mostly bought by people that invest heavily, timewise, into the game.
Well, I think it’s a bit more complex. Strictly speaking in Second Life these were not “p2w” as it was a player driven economy with player created content mostly. Those that actually “won” the game did not buy stuff from others but had the skill to produce things that others wanted to buy. For a time people were able to make more than just a living by making and selling ingame stuff.
But then again it was a very different kind of game since it was a Sims like social sandbox as an online game. I guess this makes a major difference in what should be considered “p2w”.
Interesting, do you happen to have some kind of write up/video source/book you could recommend to read up on it?
I’ve read a few studies regarding MTX and the psychology behind it (and a few theses, as well) about a 10-15 years ago. I haven’t kept up with it, so I don’t really know where to point you to, sorry.
If you do find anything, let me know. I wouldn’t mind catching up on it again. Maybe things are different these days, with the massive proliferation of mobile P2W games in more recent years.
What are you on about? I was talking about books. Feel free to read them yourself, I gave you the titels. And I was pretty clear in what I know and what I don’t know.
This is why they delayed. Think people don’t realize if Season 2 isn’t a massive success then EHG doesn’t have money to develop Season 3 and future seasons. Season 1 was a pretty big failure as it failed to bring back less than 30% of the players. This game right now is dead and it’s been dead for many months. (over 99% of the playerbase quit, that’s real bad)
Season 2 needs around 200k+ players to salvage this game and bring it back to life. EHG knows that or it could be the end to LE and then difficult financial decisions would have to be made where the studio is bought out if they want to keep the game alive.
That’s just how games work. I love LE and hope this game has a great Season 2 and hope eventually they can keep growing and have the 400k or 500k+ concurrent players it should have. EHG and anyone knows Season 2 is a big deal. If not well… sadly things won’t be good for the future of the game.
Final Thought - I believe Tencent knows this too, which is why PoE 2 had to be on April 4th and GGG had no say in it. Of course that is speculation but it makes a lot of sense that a large company can crush the smaller one and buy them all out. It’s a real shame GGG is owned by Tencent now. I hope EHG never has that fate.
For those who don’t know Tencent owns 25% of EHG and fully owns 100% of GGG/PoE 2 and willing to bet they would love to own 100% of EHG and then they can fully crush other ARPG companies controlling the market. I’d love for EHG to be successful and buy back the 25% from Tencent. Just not a fan.
Tencent trying to be like Google and buying everyone out so they don’t have competition.
Second Life lives and falls through having quality models and tools available. It’s not a game, it’s first and foremost a social environment (And was actually designed for remote business handling initially) and people make with it whatever they can come up with.
Imagine buying something with decent quality there as the same as buying a expensive suit… it’s the visual representation of status simply and far less based on what you personally like rather then what others will perceive. Quite a bit away from MTX.
It’s a quite interesting topic who and how different monetization systems draw in paying people… and also how it affects how the games are perceived.
nah man they should release the league in the same exact date as PoE and PoE 2 you know people can just play whatever they like! no need to be able play on day 1 can play at any time no rush really! okay il stop i just wanted cosplay the clowns in this thread who dont realize how important it is to get the most players on day 1
