ARPGs are about being powerful, all the greatest ARPG had overpowered builds
Going into a quest for perfect balance so that a few people dont get jealous will end up making the game worse, and it will never be enough for those people, they will always find something else to complain about
Let people have fun with the builds they play, and be certain that if you start nerfing their builds, people will piss of
An idea:
Instead of completely resetting the leaderboards how about we just have them be closed for the current version (e.g. 1.0) and start new fresh leaderboards for the ânewâ version with bugfixes (e.g. 1.0.1).
Even if it is abusing bugs it still means people invested their time so I donât really think it all that fair to have their, albeit dubious, achievement erased.
This way you get to keep them sorta happy, but also the players who arenât abusing bugs get to have a fair chance at the leaderboards.
The only problem I see with this is what determines âminor problemsâ or âlow priorityâ? Who decides this? A minor issue to me might be pretty big to you and your build.
Obviously theyâll have to prioritize the bugs themselves but Iâd never want them to just say, âthis bug isnât too bad, letâs push fixing it off until next cycleâ, etc.
Really happy to see you reaching out to the community to get our feedback. I hope we can maintain a good level of communication with the development team.
My personal thoughts are: fix the bugs, full stop. Anyone that decides to play a build using bugged abilities is just taking advantage of it and they should deal with the consequences.
Abilities that are completely busted should be balanced. If there is just an ability that just mildly overperforms, then let it be.
Whatever your stance on mid-cycle balance , it is important that once youâve taken a stance , you stick with it through future cycles. Players need to be able to rely on the actions that will or will not be taken next time someone makes a video on some âbrokenâ build/interaction.
I think that the stance of âfixing bugged skills/interactionsâ is the easiest to maintain throughout future cycles. This doesnât mean that every bug actually needs to be fixed immediately. Iâm sure some are harder / more dangerous to fix and take longer.
If bugged skills/interactions are staying till end of cycle , then the new meta next cycle will be to try and find the next broken interaction, which Iâm not looking forward to.
BTW, it wasnât until watching a streamer talk about the survey did I realize that my answers were backwards. I guess I wasnât careful enough reading, and just assumed âStrongly Agreeâ was the left-most option, when in fact it wasnât. Iâm guessing Iâm not the only one who made this mistake either.
IMHO the better solution would be to decide what corruption you want to balance the game around and make sure there is good build viability at that difficutly. Letâs say thatâs 500c. Softcap rarity/xp and higher chance for lp uniques at that mark. So 100c would be 100% rarity, 500c would be 500% rarity, from 600-1000c you only get half as much rarity so 1000c would be 750% rarity and above 1k c you only get a quater. I personally would prefer a hardcap but I donât think most players would like that. This way there is still a benefit to pushing a build but it will be way less mandatory to play the OP build.
I have no problem when overperforming builds get more loot but when they get 10 times the loot of averages builds there is no sense in playing anything else but the extremly OP build.
Its not cool when you are making a build and then suddenly devs nerf it. Wait for next cycle i guess and let people have fun at current one.
PS it never happened to me, but I want to be sure IF it will happen to me (i mean playing suddenly broken build) - it wont be ruined.
Or at least if its gamebreaking bug - after nerf give people ability to make full reset of class, cause after âfixâ they may never want to play this class and now they need to rethink their class option.
Also thx for asking people. That is kinda impressive.
I would write that in feedback & suggestions. There are already other topics about it, IIRC. If you give them your vote and voice your opinion there, it might have a higher impact.
Thx for that! Think people wont quit when nerfing/balancing, instead they will find other bugs/overperformings for u to fix.
Because its an awesome Game.
Every single class has tons of bugs. FFS you guys have to fix this stuff REGARDLESS of what the community says. It makes the game look like a joke if you wait full cycles to patch stuff right now. If it were a handfull of bugs I could see this being a community decision but câmon, how is this not obvious to yaâll?
I would do it like that: make separate ladders for every patch and automatically move old entries to the newest ladder, if they are not affected or mildly affected by the patch.
That would also solve the legacy problem, where arena scaling was different and old builds will stay on top, despite being a lot weaker compared to the new builds.
The true ladder is always the newest patch ladder. 50 players that care about climbing it will avoid using bugs. Everyone else wonât have FOMO by not playing the best OP build they maybe donât even enjoy.
Edit: Forgot to mention, that EHG simply asking about playersâ opinion are the best. Huge respect.
