Lost connection at character select

Bought the game 2 days ago, ran fine, suddenly I can no longer get past the character select screen with any online character. Hangs for 20 secs then gives a Lost connection error and sends me back to character select. I can create offline characters and play but none of the characters I have leveled previously are playable.

Player.log (83.1 KB)

Tried the ultra basics, verifying steam file integrity, reinstalling game and no luck.

EDIT: Almost a week from the original post and still nothing. There was even a patch on the 5th. Seems like this is a low priority issue despite how many people are affected, Imagine getting to play a game you bought.

Same thing for me for weeks now. Iā€™d give up if there were anything else to play that interest me right now.

The only thing that allows me to connect is using a VPN and then the game becomes even worse with rubber-banding and lag that it just isnā€™t playable.

Every once in awhile logging in with no VPN will work but itā€™s almost never.

I am also getting the exact same issue - Pretty much daily now.

Same issue here, as well. Bought the game yesterday and worked fine until I went to bed last night. Now I can only play if I connect through a VPN.

If I try to connect normally, hit ā€œENTER GAMEā€ at character selection, it says ā€œCONNECTINGā€ and simply gives up after 30 seconds or so. Tried for an hour, rebooting, verified file integrity, nothing. Only fix is playing through a laggy VPN.

I basically have played 1-70 30 seconds to minutes behind at all times as a necro summoner. My build seems pretty solid. lol Made bosses hours long events. Itā€™s been a rough 2 weeks. I figured I just spend my time experiencing classes at low levels to see what I like. It really matters when you hit 60+ monoliths.

same here also been having this issue tried uninstalling different characters, i got on for a few minutes and then nothing still looping, connects to the character screen, then enter game > Lost Connection > You lost connection to the game server

Seems this has been a common issue since the multiplayer update a month ago. Shame nothing seems to be being done about it. The only consistent fix seems to be a VPN, but with the amount of players having this problem from various parts of the globe I find it hard to believe its an a simple ISP issue.

Yeah itā€™s definitely a them problem at this point if you ask me.

I am having the same issue. I make it past login and get to character select. I select my character and say enter game. Stuck on connecting and then get the server connection error. I have verified game files multiple times. Sometimes just relaunching the game several times and trying again gets me in the game but i deal with it every time i want to play.

I am having this issue as well. Today has been the worst of them all. Most of the time, I can get in after about 15 minutes of being persistent but today, its been over an hour and I canā€™t log into my online character. Firewall is good, restarted stream, and even reinstalled Last Epoch, but no fix.

Anyone else notice when you are actually able to log in that the first Epoch runs smooth and the successive ones get plagued by lag/rubber-banding ? May be it is just coincidence, but it seems to be a thing for me.

This is happening to me constantly as well, ran find the couple of other times I played, but now I canā€™t get past character select, are we going to get any help with this or are we just SoL?

Same, i contacted support and i got a generic answer. Repairing game files isnt gonna fix a connection issue that only works when connected via VPN

Looking throught the log file it looks like this error that doesnt really say much. I think they would need to debug their servers.

Has there been any official acknowledgment of this type of issue? Thereā€™s two threads now about this exact problem both over a week old.

There are multiple threadā€¦This problem just has a lot of different symptoms. I have been hawking the threads for a few weeks now.

I am out of state on a a different internet connection and the game runs flawless on this one. I sort of dread going back to the one the game does not like.

If the same computer can play the game at one location and not at another location, then you should look at:

  • differences in router / modem hardware and configuration
  • differences in local network characteristics (WiFi or cable, version of WiFi, WiFi utilisation, number WiFi antennas on the router)
  • differences in access technology (ADSL vs Fiber vs etc)
  • differences in network bandwidth
  • difference in ISP

Unfortunately, while EHG might be able to work around some of these differences over time (through bandwidth optimisation, traffic regulation, etc), it will take time and some things (such as ISP routing choices or traffic shaping) are completely outside their control.

Any information you can share would be useful for the broader community and possibly for EHG in providing workarounds for more people to play and eventually fixes

Got to level 10. Crashed. Canā€™t connect to online character. Lost Connection. A week later. Same issueā€¦

I have a difficult time believing this is solely on the player and their setup. I understand why people think it does but it feels too widespread a problem with too many factors to push it off as a misconfiguration of a device/isp/routing issue etc etc.

Over the past week I have managed to get past the character select screen exactly twice. When I did I played the game just fine for about 3 hours then logged off. Immediately I tried to reconnect for science and it was back to the same.

Hi there.

I too do not believe this is entirely the player and their setup, as indicated in my post here:

And here:

However, if the only thing that changes is those factors described by the other player, then those are clearly contributing factors. Further, as I originally stated, some of those factors are entirely outside EHG control.

Whoever is ultimately responsible for the issue (and it may well be shared), it would help everyone if those could be accurately documented in detail so that the issues can be diagnosed and addressed in some way as quickly as possible.

After trying port forwarding with no luck. I tried a VPN and it let me past character select. Able to play but VPN required to do so.
