right, but selling it to the possibly worst company possible, is def nail on a coffin, before this, all they did was digging the hole, Krafton is a speedrun into that hole
all seasonal games are mostly dead after 2 weeks, the difference is, there are things to do in endgame, the LE endgame is the most boring thing ever, its like running PoE tier 1 blue maps with no Atlas
This this this this this this this this.
Krafton ownership/AI first/DLC or class cost/MTX quality all seem to be trivialities in terms of the consequences to the player base compared to “are our players enjoying playing?”
So the decisions being made on these things are kind of moot, because there already weren’t enough customers to support the game. This is also why I personally find it kind of weird that there’s such visceral backlash to the announcements.
The paid class decision to me doesn’t come across as some sort of betrayal or greed, it’s emergency surgery. Pseudo-forcing the playerbase’s hand to shell out for content (rather than have an entirely optional supporter pack or similar) is them jamming a pen into a trachea to allow the game to to breathe until they can fix it properly, and lots of people are apparently mad because the biro they used was green.
Do they wanna do it? No. Is it an option in a dire situation? Yeah. Will the patient survive? We’ll just have to see. The tracheotomy/paid class buys the time for the proper surgery to be performed on the core issue:
Not enough people have found this game fun and/or good enough to even play, let alone want to support it
I don’t know if they even know what fixing the game looks like. I guess it’s many many things, so how to perceive which is more important is going to be extremely subjective, which means prioritising their solutions is a significant problem.
If I were a gamblin’ man I’d say they don’t have the time, resources, or playerbase to be able to ride this out.
Finally even if this approach does work, then probably they’ll rinse repeat with a new paid class because that’s how executives think: it saved your life once, so having regular tracheotomies must be a good thing for your health. STAB
Eye rolls are quite appropriate. It completely depends on power and exclusivity to the paid class(es). Torchlight Infinite is P2W but it is not due to their always strong new paid classes. As there are always equally strong free ones. D3’s necro is pretty close to P2W when it comes to group content as they are at the top for that in almost every seasonal theme they rehash. And D3 has 2/3/4 man ladders that they are a key part of. And it just feels wrong to reward Blizzard by buying the class after they cancelled future expansions right before the first released.
I do agree that EHG is ultra incentivized to guarantee paid classes are strong the season they release. And it’s definitely a bad look to release new paid classes when the existing ones are unfinished, bugged and/or underpowered.
I’d prefer they just released paid expansions instead as I worry that they’ll try to sell multiple paid classes that cost more than the expansion would.
Some have stated as much, here and on reddit. Nothing will please them at this point, so hopefully once they vent they can move on to a game they are happy to support.
That’s some kind of mental gymnastics. I’m here for a very long time and tell them to fix their game like a broken record… even far before release.
All I say is they didn’t listen or let’s say they listened to a selcted little ammount of players and they bet on the wrong horses obviously.
If they listened to the full spectrum of their playerbase, or at least the representation o nthe forums, things would be different.
That’s a surface level observation on his part without any real insight in everything that was/is going on but at least he sounds so nice about it ![]()
Fair, it’s expensive… but also comparable to other games of the genre.
The issue is that there’s no MTX available for the stuff people actually play, and the ones available look many times like absolute ass. Low quality slob.
And to make my point I’ll explain shortly and re-install the game for it even to start it up the first time in a month ![]()
So, let’s take my favorite build.
My Jhelkor’s Blast Knife build. Detonating Arrow but melee hence. Kinda sucks because of the range issue though and is not even remotely able to even attempt Uberroth no matter how long you play.
So first off:
If I click on ‘Buy cosmetics for this slot’ then why isn’t only a list for applicable items showcased when I press it? I have to sift through two-handed axes… wands… scepters… and so on when I wanna buy a friggin dagger skin.
That’s off-putting already.
Next up why are other weapon types displayed for me even as a available choice when directly clicking on the cosmetic slot? Makes no sense, what the heck?
So… now I find my choices after sifting through the whole weapon category:
Crimson Fang, which looks worse then Jhelkor and just drips blood you cannot really see.
Deep Scale Dagger, which I don’t like design-wise and has a effect no sane person can even see ever.
Oh wait… That’s it. Two items in total.
Grand choice!
No surprise I didn’t buy one despite wanting to buy a skin.
Helmet? Oh… the ‘Stromtalon Crown’ actually looks nice! What are you saying there is nothing fitting for the other body parts available?
And why do I get helmets displayed when searching for Body Armors when I try to check?
At least there a grand total of 7 armor sets available, so 1 per year basically for development.
And 1 pair of boots and 1 pair of gloves which look like some random picked up item and aren’t any visual striking stuff even. Just low-quality crap.
Well… then at least let’s equip some pets, because why have em if I don’t have em equipped? Wait… why can I not pick my pet and slot it even in?* That’s unacceptable. Is it used by another character maybe? Which one? How should I find it? Is it even the problem?
No error message, no explanation, no nothing, just unusable.
Sure, I can fix that since I know what the issue is… I’m standing in the Bazaar area and you cannot change pets there for some reason ![]()
So yes, you’re right… 5-15€ is abominable since their MTX system isn’t even working. And it’s not my task as a customer to troubleshoot this shit, I know I need to unequip it
Well… maybe for the prices at least the quality is half-way decent? Let’s see with the stuff I accumulated either from early times up to nowadays. Some MTX is in my list. Pets is the biggest, so let’s see, right?
‘Juvenile Skullen’ looks like utter ass. Low quality textures. The scale-plates look like glued onto the fur. The fur looks like clay and why is there fur and hide with the hide being so low resolution that it looks blurry and a bit stretched?
Not to speak of the claws looking plopped on as well.
Heck… I know 2 people doing Twitch Streams as Vtubers, both doing it as a hobby in small scale, making their own models as a hobby… and it’s higher damn quality.
We have a multi-million dollar company here, it’s simply unacceptable.
But we got some more. Golden ‘Guppy’ the Baby Chronowurm looks awful, overly shiny, low resolution, you can see the odd blurry areas of where colors bleed into each other.
The bees (and ‘more bees’ as well as ‘most bees’) also look awful, with the animation being differently sped up between them simply… so their wings beat in vastly different paces. Also too slow so it looks cartoony anyway.
Voidwing (which I was stoked about the design) clips body parts into each other in the animation and looks like it has a rubber-surface, also no detailed interior of the mouth when it does a regular animation opening and displaying the inside of it…
Green Dire Guana actually is decent. Just not flashy. The stuff on the back clips into him though, maybe that would’ve been fitting to animate properly… especially since the stuff on the back moves in different directions… is that poor guy breaking his back every few seconds?
Blue Seer’s Orb. Yeah… 3€ value… little gimmicky thing. More details on the 3 rings needed then this plain design, otherwise ok. Wasn’t worth it at all even as a Twitch-Drop. They’re your advertisment MTX… at least they should look nice…
Gloomfeathers… the last I have. Decent textures actually for a change! Newer one cleary. Feathers finally look like feathers properly. We’re getting there slowly. The effect of feathers falling is awkward though, they appear randomly in the air.
All that stuff should be properly adjusted to have the feather falling from specific areas, several effects overlapping hence to then combinate into a single one and position it properly towards the pets.
Portals look decent-ish.
Portraits? Why is not a single one available in the shop? And instead relays me to all stuff combined? Atrocious again.
Frames? None available either, this time ‘Check back soon’ displayed, which is also unacceptable outside of EA.
Character effects also relay to the full store.
And there’s not even a single MTX available for Detonating Arrow. So I cannot even buy any MTX there!
Not to speak that it displays all available MTX rather then those applicable to me once more.
It’s a shit-show. So low quality it’s baffling front back and center.
Aaaand directly de-installed again after this really depressing result.
Just wanted to give the alternative rather then saying ‘this would be disastrous’ right away ![]()
Yep, surprisingly it’s actually not Krafton’s fault here… the result is probably something Krafton enforces… but the root cause is EHG’s fault plain and simply.
Sure, for us as customers absolutely. I agree 100% there.
For them though? It was a smart decision. That amount of money with the promise to not take control (like only if they can turn it around though, with nigh guarantee included)? They were smart to take this offer, other offers likely were a fraction of the price with control on top right away. Only Krafton throws money around like candy as they try to weasel their way through the most disgusting methods possible to get a profit no matter the cost.
Many, yes.
But there is a difference if you can play on and still progress, hence always find a reason to come back to it… or if you’ve ‘played it out’ basically.
Sadly in LE’s case in 2 weeks I can create 4 characters from scratch and play them and kill Aberroth with ease, which is the only realistically available end-goal still.
If I look at PoE I’m barely scratching the top-end of content yet, with loads to progress in still.
In TL:I I’ll be through with the basic progression since a bit and maybe think about starting my second character.
It’s just a massive difference overall, for a live-service game LE has basically no staying power.
I’m thorn… Everything is business, and choises. To choose to make players pay more to play usually makes them less willing to play anymore. So, most likely this is a bad business choise. Or have I got this wrong? The Diablo people made it work, cashing in loads and loads from new players joining the community ready to pay for play. So, maybe this is a good business choise, just aimning for those willing to pay. They are out there, just need to reach them. And it takes caring more for new money than for grumpy already playing folks that’s fine with paying nothing more than they already have once buying the game. And, in my opinion LE is a better game than D4, just need to reach the willing to pay player base. Common business sense, even if it’s meh.
Hello, I purchased the game through Steam. But after starting the game, it won’t let me log in to play it. It wants me to update my account and I did that and it still won’t let me play it.
I am still in wait and see mode no need to be outraged by something that aint coming out for another whole ass year so people being crazy about it without even seeing it
Ok, but it comes across as being a Karen. Would you like to speak to their manager?
Oh it is greed, betrayal is debatable as it’s being forced by a different company and technically Krafton promised us nothing but by the same token they should be held liable for promises made by the company though bought much like when a company buys another it is still liable to any contractual obligations the original company had. I will clarify that greed is on Krafton, not EHG per say.
As for the surgery, it really isn’t. They are not performing emergency first aid, they are literally trying to shot the corpse to see if that heals it. You’ve seen the backlash already. Mass review bombing, almost every player is going to quit and no pay for anything more. This is the wrong approach when EHG knows very well what is needed to make the game fun and it would take them a couple months at worst. The paid DLC is slated for almost an year from now. They don’t need to go that route at all if that is the time frame they are operating upon to make profits.
It really isn’t. I’ve been telling here that the solution is to fix the issues just as you said now but in your previous post you said that if they did what I said which is fix the game, make good MTX and at the absolutely possible worst case have a season pass that works like helldivers 2 so there is no FOMO or time frame for you to finish it, then you said this would no longer be a fun game for you.
Either you want them to fix it or you don’t.
I agree that they listened to the wrong players, they listened to the people who want to turn LE into PoE by just making every harder and harder and this is the result.
This is the wrong approach when EHG knows very well what is needed to make the game fun and it would take them a couple months at worst
If they could have done it, you’d think they’d have done it by now. ![]()
Also, no, I still don’t thnk you’re being greedy if you’re operating at a loss and you need to do something to boost revenue and balance the books. That’s survival. But yes, it’ll do as much good as shooting the patient, because lets face it, this isn’t exactly the first sign that perhaps they’re not the most qualified of “surgeons”. Their solution/announcement is a total hype killer in an environment where hype/engagement is paramount. Note I never said their solution was good, it’s just my read on what their motivations actually are - Hanlon’s razor is applicable here.
Fair point on the timeframe though, clearly they consider it possible to ride out for a short while at least, but I still think it would be a pretty miraculous save to turn the tide and get the bottom line into the black prior to the paid DLC, that just does not seem realistic AT ALL. Where’s that money coming from, and from who? With the announcement, S4 engagement is probably going to drop, so yeah, I really wouldn’t hold my breath on somehow the paid DLC decision being reversed.
Oh but they could because the major problem/s have been reported constantly and since early access and they completely ignored it.
The major problems are as follows:
Some mobs do 2 to 3 times more damage than others and some bosses too. Example are all the last 2 acts mobs and Lagon. The damage is insane, prior to Majalsa you are crit and worst case you may lose half your HP. Anything that crits during the Majalsa campaign or after will one shot you. So let me ask this. How hard is it to lower their damage and HP to similar levels as all other mobs? It doesn’t seems that hard to me or something that requires many months of work, it can be done in a few minutes by a single dev.
Second problem is the difficulty spike going from normal monolith to empowered which not only gives a strong multiplier on the HP and damage of enemies but also allows monoliths to have more buffs per map done since they last longer and the buffs they get are also bigger compared to normal. So here it requires a little bit more finesse but all you need to do is make 100 corruption still give no bonus and have duration of enemy buffs as well as magnitude of buffs be the same as normal because empowered is the absolute bare minimum to start farming, even more so when grand blessings are mandatory for defenses.
At this point the game will already be fun and if you think the devs can’t get this done in a couple of months then you are saying they are incredibly incompetent which I doubt they are. It’s more that the lead developers do not want to fix this because again, they think hey know better than the people who play the game and have reported this ad nauseum since early access and nothing was done.
From here and again requiring more finesse in how yo tackle it. You need to make MG not require grinding to be able to trade things. You need CoF to allow proper targeted farming like say, I want this exact base with this exact exalted affix or I want this exact unique and it also needs to remove the grind to be able to fully unlock it for the same reason should allow you to just trade immediately.
After this I can almost guarantee that LE is already in almost as good state as PoE. It needs to improve monoliths to be less, rush to the end and more clear things but that requires them to make map layouts that are not just chunks of the campaign cut and once mapping is at a point where it competes with PoE then LE is better than PoE.
You accomplish the first 2 for one season, you accomplish the CoF and MG for the next meanwhile fixing some of the skills here and there as they add content and the mapping will take longer but in a year work a bit on that and 5 seasons later we have all done that needs to make LE better than PoE.
Your suggestions would make the game worse and further reduce player retention.
Outside of Uber all content in LE is trivial, players already steamroll the content and are finished with the season in no time at all. If you make it even easier then people will be finished even sooner.
LE need to make higher quality MTX and most importantly have regular seasons that keep people coming back to the game. They haven’t done this and so are looking at other monetisation models. It remains to be seen if it’ll end up working or not, but PoE has sustained itself financially for a decade based on regular seasons and high quality MTX.
So here it requires a little bit more finesse but all you need to do is make 100 corruption still give no bonus
Even easier:
Since we got 5 ‘stages’ to last timelines normal monoliths scale gradually. From 0 corruption to perfectly fitting 80 corruption. So each ‘stage’ provides 20 corruption.
Smooth progression rather then a sudden jump. Individually very slightly harder each step but overall smooth.
Your suggestions would make the game worse and further reduce player retention.
Balance would make the game worse?
Mhmm… because that was the largest portion of the post.
But I guess you mean the others. Namely the faction related aspects.
Which absolutely are upholding. CoF is based on target farming but lacks the power needed, instead scales in RNG in extremely unfair ways compared to MG.
And MG access restrictions are utterly nonsensical, they fail to do their job entirely anyway and a alternative system needs to be there. Like a baseline power-level for items as I stated several times in other threads, so both access and price are regulated through that. Curated market hence, not a free one.
Outside of Uber all content in LE is trivial,
Which is a major issue.
Doesn’t change that the respective pieces of content still have difficulty spikes and hence feel grating.
LE need to make higher quality MTX and most importantly have regular seasons that keep people coming back to the game.
Yes, that’s also 100% the case. Consistency is key.
It’s also not the quality of the MTX… yeah… to a part at least… but sheer quantity even!
If you don’t have anything which you enjoy the style of available then there is no reason to buy anything. The stuff you don’t like can be as high quality as you want… if it’s not your style then you won’t buy it.
And if nothing at all is available in the first place you kinda cannot buy anything anyway ![]()
PoE has sustained itself financially for a decade based on regular seasons and high quality MTX.
Yes to the first.
The second is because of the sheer utter quantity.
Yes, much of the MTX looks good… but there’s a boatload of garbage in there as well. The point is ‘someone likes the style of that garbage’ as well.
I tried to play your game twice - in 2024 and April 2025.
Both leagues same issue - regular disconnects with your EU/US servers.
And only few builds that can farming endgame.
After this i even don’t want come back in your unstable game!
And now you want sell me some DLC. Very wrong way, very wrong way…
Good luck with your plans, dead project…
Your suggestions would make the game worse and further reduce player retention
No he’s right about properly balancing mobs and having a smooth difficulty gradient through all stages of the game, this ABSOLUTELY would be an improvement.
I just think most people have given up long before empowered monos.
I legitimately think that stuff like the constraints on skill usage, respec penalties, the UI, the loot filter not quite being user friendly enough, class and monster balance, being off-screened by the flowers in ACT ONE, oh wait, there’s a boss that is literally designed to off-screen the player, a lot of the weird voice acting that sounds like it was done by Brian from accounts, frankly boring early uniques, the disorienting map, I dunno I can’t be arsed to keep going - kinda my point is there are a thousand things all diminishing the product over and over which ARE experienced by EVERYONE, and it’s these that stop a lot of people sticking with the game. Polishing and expanding the endgame absolutely needs to happen, but it can wait if there’s only 2000 people that even get that far.
I don’t know about any DEEP later stuff (especially with MG, I’ve only ever played SAF/CoF), I’ve never done ubers because I tend to run out of enthusiasm by the time I get to empowered monos and shelve the game again having spent zero, and I think I have a lot more patience than most. The survival rate of someone, new to the game and perhaps even new to the genre, even getting to empowered monos and/or spending additional $ I bet is pretty low. The vast majority will have their motivation to play die a death of a thousand cuts and uninstall before then, and it’s kind of hard to win them back once they have - the retention numbers demonstrate this. The basics need to be done right to get the average player hooked, and there’s lots of those that need attention.
