But… My highlight is about the new dodge mechanic.
We don’t need that. You conquered a large audience and never needed that.
It feels cheap, it does not fit the coolness of the current state of game. Combat feeling can and should be improved, but dodge is not the answer.
And it would be ok if you test a new feature and remove it if lot of negative feedback is given, but I feel like thats a single road with no comeback.
Really disappointed about this one. Because it can drastically change the direction of the game and my enjoyment with almost everything about it.
For those who disagree and don’t play offline (or haven’t since they fixed the servers shortly after launch):
Remember what happened when LE first launched 1.0. Servers were bad, but we had offline mode to hold us over.
What happens when 1.1 drops? Servers are going to be bad again, but we will have offline mode. Now do you want to be able to play the new content offline right away, or be stuck behind an arbitrary time gate while you wait for EHG to fix the servers?
Offline and Online cycles should be the same. Otherwise what is the point of having an offline mode if content is locked behind the legacy cycle?
No amount of future hype fixes the BASE GAME. So sadly D4 devs have acknowledged this and we have how many cycles to wait before the same happens here?
Not a fan of boss encounters (especially the dungeon ones). Spending time in a dungeon only to get one shot by a boss before getting to the juicy rewards is a rage quit for me Get better? I guess, or just skip the content.
I imagine adding a dodge roll thingy, will mean bosses will be designed around pushing yet another button and making boss encounters even harder. Ugh
The whole point of adding offline cycle was to enable those who don’t want to play online or deal with servers, and still experience the content AS IT’S RELEASED.
What if I get to the new pinnacle content quickly while playing a FRESH CYCLE CHARACTER offline? I must wait now? you’re making no sense. The game should not be balanced or planned around the possibility of some editing their saves, nor should anyone’s enjoyment be affected by someone cheating their way through endgame.
Id much rather wait for pinnacle content then having some loser blast it all over social media for clicks because he used a cheated in level 100 character with omega gear to video capture all the content.
I get it, it really sucks for people who are not assholes. But we have to make rules for the assholes. So blame them.
I support the lowest level of lock out, which is 48 hours.
Cause I love the responses I will get “just dont look at social media” “who cares I wanna see the boss fight before I do it” “it does not hurt you”
it also prevents them from ever doing an event similar to poe, where people who first beat the boss get some kinda cool prize. Unless they of course go “well offline players cant compete, or cheated characters cant compete” or any number of weird stipulations they would have to put in to make it so it does not immediately get ruined.
Im not even a contender in this events, I just really enjoy seeing who is the winner and the neat little race that happens.
So yes, much rather offline take a bit of the stick end so that the entire game does not suffer.
Except they always stated in the past that every boss fight was already designed for base movement speed and no skills.
My biggest concerns are:
It becomes a quick-action button, pushing away players that are slower to react.
It becomes mandatory for a specific boss ability, so using it at the wrong time equals guaranteed failure. (assuming it has any sort of CD)
I-frame abuse.
It directly counters the design concept of Traversal & Movement skills. Either you can combine them during speed clear, (at which point it’s a dash, not a dodge) or they share CD and Traversals for damage become a liability.
It takes away from different classes having different solutions.
Even if it’s restricted to Pinnacle-bosses, point 2 still stands; you don’t instantly fail on current dungeon fights if you press your ability at the wrong time, you can still recover within a reasonable time frame. I can’t see how recovering Dodge roll CD would work in an engaging way.
It’s the single thing on this roadmap I can’t see be a positive for the game.
Edit: The only reasonable way I would like Dodge rolls if it would somehow auto-trigger on killing blows. That way it’s there for pre-emptive use, but lesser skilled players still get enough benefit out of it in case they get hit (and it’s up to them to not trigger it too early)
It makes sense for offline players not to compete in an event, because of the possibility of cheating, sure, but it doesn’t make sense for casual play. If I am choosing offline, I am forgoing leaderboards to begin with, so why should I be time-gated?
Because someone is going to stream it/video it, and ruin the experience for anyone trying to chat about the game and talk about the new content?
if I had been playing the new patch for 6 hours, and the new pinnacle boss is already downed by some guy in offline 1 hour in, and there is 60 videos on youtube about it, what hype is there? they might as well just post the full fight before they even release it.
I mean - it’s not hard to implement an “online only world first kill” mechanic to give out these prizes. I am 100% sure the offline community would agree/understand that getting access to new content but not being able to get the reward unless they were online is a fair stipulation.
As far as the spoiler content - unless you are the first, you are going to get spoiled either way unless you actively avoid spoilers and wait until you see it yourself (or, be like me and seek out those spoilers because you just can’t figure out the mechanics)
It’s certainly the norm for ARPG games these days, not even D4 managed to speed that cycle up.
The problem with shortening the cycles is that you lose players who
a. Also play other games
b. Play slower and are only now just finishing up their cycle characters
c. Need breaks in between to not burn out from playing LE non-stop.
What if I can’t play online and bought the game for the promise that I can play new content offline?
Also the amount of arrogance it takes to tell me how to play my game is mind-boggling.
