Game crashing (not responding), GPU usage goes to idle, whole system lagging until force close

Hello,

only happens since last few patches, didnt play a lot in the last 6 months. No problems before.
It happens more on 1440p than 1080p and lower graphic settings made me able to play for a few minutes.
It creates mouse and whole pc system lockups and GPU usage goes to idle and stay there until game is force-closed. All my drivers and BIOS are updated, other games no issues at all. It creates “Hardware errors” in my maintenance tab on win10, but as i said everything is up-to-date and hardware new and functioning.

Hey, Welcome to the forum…

Please can you post your system information & game logs - See https://support.lastepoch.com/category/35-useful-files

If possible, please post the windows 10 hardware error logs too…

I would recommend:

  • Post about your hardware here (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.)
  • Check the windows event log (Einfach Windows-Taste drücken und “ereignisanzeige” auswählen - dann auf der linken Seite im Reiter “Anwendungen” oder “System” nach dem letzten Error suchen); it shows more Info

Player.log (24.2 KB)
Player-prev.log (26.9 KB) le_graphicsmanager.INI (525 Bytes) this is very low and didnt crash yet, i changed the file and not ingame. If i go to 1440p or increase graphics it crashes shortly after and every time that happen i feel like my PC gets a permanent dent as it lags my entire system.

Rest on the way.

I played LE for years and my system always ran it smoother than most people.

Hi,

Please can you try the following and see if it helps with stability:

  1. Disable Antialising and see if that helps with stability?
  2. Set the frame limiting to 60fps
  3. there was a recent update - please verify your steam files if using steam.

These changes are just to test if it stops crashing… if it does, then re-enable them and see if it crashes again.

Game is working right now on very low + no antialising and on 60 fps cap (usually i play 119 cap). I did reinstall the game before trying yesterday and also the game file repair didnt show anything before or now.

Edit1: Antialising and 120fps back on no problems except the game is running at 40% GPU usage and cant keep up fps at 120. Background fps cap doesnt work if i tab do 2nd screen.

Edit2: Tried on 1440p, 120 fps, medium settings and it works. No crashes so far. Im fine with 60 fps and 1440p, but even that crashed for me yesterday like 10 times in the last week.

Edit3: I managed to crash it going from 1440p, high, 60fps cap to 120fps cap. Within few seconds i had white points flickering in the screen and it then locking up + my mouse also got stuck for seconds. Closed it with task manager.
le_graphicsmanager.INI (504 Bytes)
Player.log (63.3 KB)

I wouldnt use antialiasing at all… lots of people have reported better stability with it off and TAA mode caused crashing for them…

Background FPS is a known problem… Seems to have something to do with window/fullscreen exclusive but I dont think anyone found the exact reason.

I doubt that many people can run LE at 120fps @ 1440p… There are plenty of performance issues that cause fps spikes … Imho, if you can get anything stable with spikes not going lower than 60fps then you are doing VERY well in comparison to others.

The main thing I always recommend is to get it stable, then get it running at an FPS you are happy with… I would ignore most eye-candy right now unless you just want to see what it looks like… Until the devs get to optimising performance, it just doesnt make sense to push LE till it breaks.

New crash report, this time it looks different.

((Bit difficult to see the progress when you edit old posts…))

Not sure how you are doing the testing but I wouldnt change so many things at the same time… Single things like TAA antialisaing cause instability so if you change the graphic settings you will struggle to find the one thing that is causing the most trouble…

I would leave the graphical settings all to low or disabled and only change the res/fps cap each time…

Eg.
Res 1080p, 60fps, all graphics very low or disabled.
Res 1080p, 120fps, all graphics very low or disabled.
Res 1440p, 60fps, all graphics very low or disabled.
Res 1440p, 120fps, all graphics very low or disabled.

If its stable, then add graphic setting changes one at a time… That way you can hopefully find the exact setting that is causing your problems.

I did do that, is that not in the logs? I only ever changed one thing played for a minute and then added the enxt, while switching back and forth in fps.
The thing that crashed it was from high + 1440p + no antialising + 60fps to 120 fps. Anything below worked just fine. I uploaded the new logs from the crash in the edit.
And these settings crashed me yesterday aswell just with antialising on and not off. Doesnt seem to change anything in stability for me.

Its impossible to tell when you edit old posts…

So does any combination of settings work?

1440p, low graphics no antialiasing, 60 fps?

Also… are you just changing the top graphic setting from high to low or are you manually changing each of the specific graphic settings - this can make a difference because some people have reported problems when just changing the global setting at the top…

All combinations from very low to high works as long as its not 120 fps capped on high. I thought its less spammy if i edit my post.
And i thought the log file should show what i changed?
I did change the master setting, no individual ones. Only TAA or off.

output_log.txt (35.6 KB) Player.log (63.3 KB)

I dont know how i can make it more clear. Guess write down all combinations but thats very tedious.

Edit(I cant post anymore for 21 hours!?):

Its just weird, the crash was with 88% GPU usage. But that might be the case, but i have to play for longer to say if anything below really is stable. I did crash at the same settings yesterday tho with antialising on and today it was off.

Also i played LE since demo 3 years ago with the same GPU and i could run it on very high at least with 120 fps. Obviously not stable and some harsh drops in certain zones or certain monster types but thats just anyones issue for the most part.

Ok… So from what you have tested…

LE works ok UNLESS you set the graphical settings to 1440p AND High AND the Fps cap to 120. Anything lower is ok.

My guess would be that that is then the upper limit of your 1080 gpu with LE in its current beta state… Once they do optimisation then maybe you could run it at higher settings but at least you have been able to find a “stable” configuration. My 1060 gpu cannot do more than 75fps at 1080p on very low settings.
