CoF is Useless and Itemization/Crafting is Awful: No Upgrades in 20 Levels?

If you’re running healing hands build, doubly so I think it’s your issue because I run the same build and I always find upgrades every play session, sometimes 3 at once.

So you are showing any Jade amulet - normal, magic, rare, exalted; you pick every one of them and you failed to get more than T2 phys damage and ignite on hit?

I am hiding all non acolyte items and I have several of them, my character is 96, rank 8 CoF, doing 100-200 corruption monoliths.

You are doing something wrong, take step back and think.

Yep pretty much- I pick all the amulets up, I craft once or twice, it bricks, it’s no better than the one I currently have (because i’ve never seen a jade amulet drop with the affixes I already want on it).

How am I doing something wrong if the chests are never dropping? It’s not like I can magically make the game give me exalted chests that have +skills on it.

If you were really running a melee healing hands build you’d know that IAS (and healing effectiveness) is all that matters and you wouldn’t be swapping out a jade amulet for something else just because it has +health.

Sorry, but if you pick normal amulet with perfect implicit, you can deterministically craft more that two T2 affixes. Chances are higher, if you start with something more favorable than normal item.

How? -18 FP t1. -18 FP t2. You’re done crafting, and only got one of your affixes.

If you’re this inflexible about one amulet, maybe CoF isn’t for you.

I’d like the amulet to be an actual upgrade, right? In order for it to be an upgrade it either needs:

  1. an exalted increased healing effectiveness
  2. to be a jade amulet with better affixes than what i’ve currently got

I’ve managed to get neither, and so there hasn’t been an upgrade.

But it’s not just about the amulet, it’s about every single piece of gear. What am I supposed to do since I haven’t gotten any helmets with +healing hands, any chests with +rive, or any relics with +sigils since I started the character? I don’t have any shards and it seems like the only way to even try getting them to to use runes of discovery on white gear. Which is a bit ridiculous when you’re level 80+.

If I had gone MG from the start, my character would already be decked out in everything. Instead, I’m stuck using an amulet from level 4, and a chest with +to a skill I don’t even have because it’s the only thing that’s dropped.

If you have an affix you really need. Do NOT shatter it. Instead use runes of removal. As long as it has FP it will suck all the shards out. Also you are a bit of a cry baby and it sounds like you need instant gratification otherwise you throw a fit. Level 83 is nothing. I have made over 8 chars this cycle at that level. Keep grinding or watch a video on crafting mechanics. Because you are clearly missing key fundamentals.

Isn’t runes of removal random too though? I can’t choose which affix it’s going to remove.

For +healing hands, I’ve seen it twice, and didn’t get any shards when shattering. For rive and sigils though, I haven’t even seen it drop once, so there’s not much I can do if it doesn’t exist in the first place.

I don’t think asking for an upgrade once every 80 levels is asking for instant gratification though. What’s the point in an ARPG focused around loot if you don’t get any loot?

Yes it is random but you just keep using them until you either suck the affix you want, or run out of FP. In the latter case, THEN use a rune of shatter because you will be guaranteed to get it if its your last one left. To clarify further, shattering is bad because it weighs the less rare affixes higher. On your second point… man. What do you mean no upgrades? Are you just waiting for a perfectly rolled item for your exact build to drop for you? It almost never works that way. Set your loot filter up to highlight rare affixes such as +level to RIVE so you see them every single time and use rune of removal to Collect at least 5 or so. In the meantime find an exalted base where the T6/T7 affix is one that works for your build. THEN craft what you want. It really isnt that hard. You got this

Ah, I see on the removal runes, makes sense. Although still problematic given that you have to get them to drop in the first place. I’ve literally never seen a +rive or +sigils once. I don’t care about the stats on the item, i’ve literally never had one drop.

On the amulet that I’ve been using since level 4, I’ve not gotten a single amulet that either has:

  1. an exalted healing effectiveness
  2. a jade amulet with the affixes I actually need on it

So i’ve been stuck using the jade amulet I’ve had since level 4, because literally nothing has dropped with the affixes I actually use for my build, and every one I craft bricks after one or two tries (every craft is -15 to -18 FP per attempt) and I can’t get better than the 2 t2 affixes that are semi useful for me onto the darn thing.

Well if what you are saying is true, (which is statistically very unlikely because you can keep running amulet nodes on the monolith) you can do two things: 1. Start a new character and gear it up at monoliths with sweet gear you already found or 2. join the merchants guild. It sounds like this might be your better option because even at the lowest level you can buy a rare for less than 25k gold with +rive or sigil levels and use the rune of removals on that item.

I’ always beeline for the amulet echos, I’ve tried using CoF to spam 50 amulet drops at once, but still. Nothing useful ever.

But that’s one of the other points of the post: CoF is just useless. It’s a giant trap for new players and people who don’t live on the forums and didn’t know it was useless. MG is so much better it’s not even funny. I completely gimped my character progression because I clicked the wrong button for which guild to join and had no idea the difference was so drastic.

Switch to Merchant Guild and just buy upgrades. Focus on your weakest item slot and keep going from there. You can upgrade most of your gear in mere minutes by buying targetted upgrades once you have enough favour (and GOLD of course).

MG is awesome.

I hit level 3 and just grabbed a couple of Twisted Hearts and Omnis that various Alts needed, less than 100k.

CoF is for the birds.

IDK I’m debating making a CoF character just so I can farm Despair Glyphs and Runes of Ascension.

You know what? I thought you were just rash because you were newer and were looking for advice on how to overcome your untrue complaints but now you pissed me off because me and others have spent our time tonight genuinely trying to help you. Instead you spit in our faces and just want to cry. You gimped your character because you would rather complain then take actual feedback and apply it. Have you even played in MG? No? So how can you even compare it? I’m done with this convo.

so just thought I’d add a positive note to this thread … my sorcerer just found an exalted chest piece in a 100 corruption mono that is a nice upgrade.

So don’t lose faith CoF players! Upgrades do happen from time to time…

Yeah I dropped CoF, we will see how MG goes. Luckily only my idols and one ring had CoF tags so my gear wasnt completely gone.

Some of the poor bastards in this thread: Feeling underpowered, dropping nothing, don't know what to do - #13 by Sarkman

are having very similar issues to me, but they can’t even switch because all their gear is CoF tagged and they’d literally be naked.

EEG REALLY needs to add a “warning CoF is super hard mode” tag onto the faction selection. Better yet, they shouldn’t even be mutually exlusive. Just add CoF buffs to SSF players so they get faster faction rep. CoF is nice idea in theory, and it’s quite nice to have basically a bounty board to encourage you to do other content. The problem is that the rewards don’t exist. It’s just more loot that’s useless for your character.

Here’s a really funny thing.

Before 1.0 there were no factions.

So everyone was basically CoF but without CoF benefits :joy:
