So, wandering around here on an 83 paladin, desperately trying to upgrade my gear, and I realized: everything the character is wearing dropped around level 60, if not earlier. My amulet is from level 4!!! I haven’t gotten a single decent jade amulet drop that was either decent or didn’t brick immediatly in the next 80 levels. I’m using Jasper’s right now, and my weapon dropped around level 65. It was the last upgrade I got.
I’m currently playing Rive, but i’ve not seen a single +rive chest in the entire time I’ve been playing the character. Not one. Similarly, I’ve only gotten a couple +healing hands helmets to drop, but both were awful and of course on shattering I didn’t get any +healing hands shards. I’m literally using a +Multistrike chest right now, despite not using multiestrike, because it has increased melee damage. How are you supposed to progress when literally NOTHING drops and you only get 2 crafts before the item bricks?
And that brings me to CoF. I didn’t realize that CoF was a complete joke, I thought there was finally an alternative to trading to try and get some items. It’s nearly rank 6 and I’ve run a few dozen prophecies, to garbage drops. Because the itemization is so bad in this game, CoF serves no purpose. Loot explosions just give you more useless items. Guess I should have read the forums first, because wow. I gimped myself for no reason. CoF is just useless. 100% trash garbage useless. It’s such a trap for new players to the game, why on earth are CoF and MG mutually exlusive? This is such a giant FU to any new players- you choose MG and faceroll, or you choose CoF and gimp yourself to never ever getting an upgrade. I haven’t gotten a single usable item from all of those prophecies that I’ve run.
The whole thing is just so offputting. I have no reason to login. I know I’ll never see a drop for my build, and I know I’ll never be able to craft anything because every item bricks instantly (sidenote- I’ve never seen glyph of hope actually proc in thousands of tries. I think this has to be bugged right? Is there a typo somewhere in the code to make it 2.5% instead of 25?). I know that to even have a shot at getting anything for my build, I have to completely restart a terrible rep grind, because I mistakenly chose the wrong faction not realizing I was gimping myself. I made the wrong choice because I didn’t know better, and now there’s no reason to play.
… the rant in my post of course! Seriously I’ve never seen an ARPG with such bad itemization. Not getting upgrades in 80 levels for item slots just shouldn’t happen.
Exactly, it shouldn’t be happening. Which means your loot filter is weird or you don’t know how to look for gear. At 83 my paladin was finding upgrades at a good rate.
My loot filter isn’t particularly restrictive. And it’s not like im hunting uniques here, I’m just looking for a basic amulet that has attack speed and doesn’t have crap affixes. I haven’t found one yet. It’s not like you can target farm it. I’ve tried using CoF to do amulet drops, but because you can’t select which type you get, you end up just getting garbage every time.
I’d also like to know how you’re finding upgrades on anything. Seriously nothing drops and crafting is pointless because you brick after 1 or 2 crafts every time.
Got a lot of Runes of Discovery? I know I have loads.
Use them on Sentinel vendor chests. I’ve gotten lots of class specific shards from either removing or shattering gear I got this way. The shatters cost a little gold, but if you’re 83 you should have lots.
Sometimes you have to make your own luck.
PS: You can also use the otherwise useless Glyphs of Chaos to get another kick at the can.
Why do people always assume its the loot filter? Maybe the game’s itemization could be a little more deterministic. There are something like 700+ affixes afterall. Same thing happened to me as the OP, only I’m level 100.
The randomized affixes in this game are no different than the ones in vanilla Diablo 3. Everyone who was around back then knows what a nightmare it was to get decent items in that game. This game is very much like that one… only there’s 2-3 times the affixes (more randomness) here than in D3. This game has crafting, which D3 did not, but crafting doesn’t really help in a meaningful way because its just more layers of RNG.
Seriously. This game has the worst itemization in the history of ARPGs. It sucks and it’s not fun. And I’m still really pissed about CoF being completely worthless. I don’t want to have to restart the rep grind but I have to since it’s basically impossible to get anything useful to drop at all.
This discussion would be a lot more meaningful if you would actually tell us what amulet you have and what you are looking for as a replacement. I find your experience in contrast with mine - I find character progression with itemization very good.
For the amulet- I have a 10% ias jade amulet, with a t2 physical damage affix and a t2 ignite on hit affix. I got it at level 4. I’ve not found a better one or been able to craft a better one in the entirety of the game up to this point, because crafting is impossible and jade amulets just aren’t dropping. I cannot get the base to drop.
Similarly, on the chest, I’ve not found a single +rive chest in the entirety of playing so far. Not one.
On the helm, I’ve only found a couple +healing hands drops on terrible bases with bad affixes, and on sharding haven’t been able to get +healing hands.
So basically I can’t get any gear because either the base doesn’t drop or the affix doesn’t drop. I literally dont have the shards in the case of chest/helm, I’ve never seen them in 80+ levels.
You cant find the base to drop, because you have narrowed the amulet you want to a singular base type.
Generally id argue gearing goes like this.
Random rare with an affix you can use → random base with good affix tiers → exalted item on random base with the best affix for you exalted → perfect rare item on the perfect base ->exalted on the correct base
You can not afford to go “nope im only look at jade amulets” yeah you are gonna never see an upgrade for years. You need to show all amulets, and get an amulet with t5 phys and t5 ignite and t5 life, then maybe hope to upgrade to a jade with those stats down the line.
Yes, a perfect rare on the correct base is better then a rando exalted imo.
I mean, I’ve never seen an exalted even one of the affixes I want either, regardless of the base. So there’s no point in swapping out the jade amulet I got at level 4 for a t3 or t4 physical damage or ignite amulet that I could craft on a different base because it’s objectively worse than the amulet I got at level 4.
you really think the little bit of attack speed is better then tons of extra stats?
So you think what is equal to a t4 melee speed, is better then potentially 16 extra tiers of stats?
You deserve to suffer then imo, thats just basic math man. more stats is more better. You have to weigh the value of the stats against more stats rofl.
You have a problem with your loot filter. Its that simple. Impossible for you to still be using a lvl 4 item without an upgrade dropping. The loot in this game is fantastic and I saw upgrades while leveling and self-crafting even as Merchant Guild. Most of my gear is from stuff I’ve picked up. Not bought.
It definitely is, yeah. Because healing hands + ward is broken right now, paladins are basically invulnerable. I only need the increased dps, which means IAS+damage mods. The IAS is worth 2 t5 affixes in terms of damage, at least. So I haven’t found an upgrade yet, because I can’t get the base. I don’t need res (already capped on all), and the health isn’t all that useful because of ward.
As for the loot filter guy, tell me how to set it up. I’m not hiding any rare amulets, and I’ve got ones with the affixes I would like (physical damage, fire damage, ignite on hit) colored to look like a unique drop. I haven’t found jack crap in 80+ levels.
For the crafting guy, I dont know what to tell you man. I brick every craft every time after one or two tries. I’ve never seen a craft use less than 15 fp.
I don’t know what is drop chance of low level base at higher level, but consider different amulet base and get 10% attack speed elsewhere. If you are stuck at items with two usable T2 affixes then you are doing mistake somewhere. Reevaluate your loot filter, reconsider your crafting method, corruption level of monoliths… I have bunch of exalted chests with bonuses to skills. Take a step back and try something else.
It’s not about getting it elsewhere, any slot that can have IAS needs to have IAS, because hitting rapidly is all that matters when you’re using healing hands as one of the damage sources.
I’ve not seen a single +skill exalted chest yet either though.
