There will always be people who like that. Any masochist here?
But I think the majority are just annoyed
(based on twitch streams/chats i know)
I think the problem is FAR MORE FUNDAMENTAL - in that the number of different shards IS TOO HIGH. And so many of them have extremely long names to the point that it is faster to click them than it is to read them. For this reason it is hard to distinguish good useful shards from the mountain of trash you get.
If all the common shards were removed and we just got “generic common shard”(can be used for any common affix) I think it would feel better when shards drop, even if the rate of shards dropping was ten or twenty times less - because at least you would know the shard you picked up is useful. It would be easier to read shards too if affixes were grouped this way.
Think of path of exile and the chaos orb, in that it is essentially that games equivelent of a shard, but it is universally useful so it is actually valuable, but here the shards are so specific as to be useless in 99% of builds.
I think they should just let the current crafting materials and system to be automatucally picked up, because I don’t think there will be any meaningful update in this matter can have that will make it actually worth reading. Even if they drop a lot less often, it’s just not enough to make me read these shards. As someone playing legacy too which I already have thousands of these, which just contributes more as to why I don’t bother.
Instead they introduce crafting 2.0 or new feature similar to Temporal Sanctum or something. Where they introduce new unique shards that’s not used in traditional crafting, but rather a feature that will add 1 unique effect on each gear depending on which shards used. Not just your typical +RES or +DMG but something more unique, preferably alter some gameplay or gives more effects to certain passives as requirement of that unique shard. Also this feature possibly only 1-3x per equipment.
Of course this is just a vague idea.
One good workaround and a must-use feature in LE, IMO, is configuring it to show short names for item tooltips. I cannot stand playing this game without this option enabled ever since I discovered it. Makes everything cleaner and easier to read, not only shards, but all items really.
