Your Cosmetic Feedback Could Shape What’s Next in Last Epoch

I only found a few cosmetics I like it was actually kind of hard to put together an “outfit” for my character that I was happy with. The art style of the armor cosmetics is unique but have not been for me. I like more classic fantasy and a lot of what Poe2 has been offering.

My recommendation would be fantasy series crossovers. I would absolutely love that. Things from the works of Sanderson or Joe Abercrombie, etc. I don’t know if there are a lot of fantasy readers watchers in this genre but I would assume so. Just my wish.

  1. I prefer styling my characters in different kinds of armours, including back-attachments such as cool wings and cloaks. Armours here don’t necessarily mean just plate or heavy kinds of armour, but any kind of cool-looking headgear, bodywear, gloves, legs, and boots.

Example: PoE’s Scholar and Seeker supporter packs look cool, and that’s not heavy armour. The entire 2019 Core supporter pack has badass thematic cosmetics.

After that comes weapon cosmetics, such as replacing a 2-handed sword with a large anime sword, or replace any bow you use with something that looks like a Windforce or Eaglehorn or something.

  1. It should fit the world you’ve built and what you’re aiming to build down the line. Cheery and colorful isn’t really my style… T1 paladin, anyone? Although T2 pally was kinda neat. If the character can be taken seriously while wearing the thematic clothing I think it’s a step in the right direction.

  2. What keeps me from buying anything is the inability to upgrade from a lower tier supporter packs to a higher tier. Just knowing I have the option to upgrade my supporter pack increases the chance of me buying the lowest tier of a pack.

I want to see more non “fantasy” themed cosmetics…elements, dragons, and other predictable cosmetics just don’t move me.

More “realistic” type themes appeal more to me.

Being able to make my character look like an ninja-esque assassin if I’m playing Rogue for example. It kind of kills the immersion of playing a lot of classes due to not having fitting MTX for the play styles.

It doesn’t look right dashing and dodging around with a fast paced build while dressed in a huge suit of fire dragon armor.

Still sitting on most of my creator points, I’m glad this call for feedback has landed. A great MTX setup can be the difference between continuing to play a toon or not, and sometimes even whether I play a certain build at all, especially if a skill effect changes an annoying sound or visual (thoughts for some other discussion maybe).

Overall, I’m glad to see a lot of variety in MTX design and I’m confident that with enough eventual quantity of selections we will naturally find unique cohesive looks and themes to build on. There is definitely also a variety of design quality, with the lesser items hopefully being updated later as the game matures. The preview ability is paramount and I would expect makes data collection about unpopular options much more valuable and informative. Personally, I preview everything usually multiple times then only buy what I think I will like. That said, and given preview is not available for supporter pack equipment, I haven’t bought any seasonal packs. Preview is also not perfect, like with Voidwalker Gaze showing transparency in preview but not during actual gameplay.

GENERAL STUFF

  • One item, multiple styles: where there is a color scheme there could be 3 to 5 color options to choose from, whether separate purchases or not. For example, Arcane Duelist is purple and blue; I’d like also to have a red and blue, or green and blue, or silver trim and gold effect, etc. Divine Shroud could have other colors and maybe slight name changes, like a blue Arcane Shroud, or purple Cosmic Shroud. Same idea for skill effects, pets, portals, and the rest where sensible.

  • Base art transmog: this would obviously open up customization dramatically, plus maybe add a bit of extra loot hunting. Ideally this would be usable on any equipable item and be usable in its slot regardless of the specific item currently equipped (with the probable weapon exceptions).

  • Weapon type mismatch: I would like to see any weapon MTX that fits a broad category be usable for any item in that category, for both value and variety. There is a lot of this already present, but oddly incomplete. For example, Drakeflame Cleaver has six types for 50p including wand and dagger, but Drakefrost Battleaxe has two types for 100p and can’t be used with a sword. I’m guessing there’s some move-set or animation implications here, but seems like figuring those out might pay for itself.

  • Bundles: value feels pretty good, just need more of them.

  • Supporter packs: Very well done here. My only criticism is the imagery/videos should make it much more obvious what is obtainable in the pack. For example, in Woven Templar there are multiple armor sets showing that feel thematic with the pack yet are not part of it. Probably just strip out all non-pack equipment and use base character models if extras are needed for showcasing.

  • Invisible MTX: hide my shield, helmet, let me go barefoot, maybe naked entirely besides my weapon.

  • Character effect: dunno what you may have planned for this slot, but I’d like to see effects that augment the character model versus just add arbitrary sparkles or shadow colors. Also, I would hope to avoid in-town performance crashes or any over-the-top effects that turn my PC into any more of a space heater than LE already does (which it still does more than any other game I play btw).

DESIGN & ANIMATION

  • Inconsistent quality: The Crystalweave armor is probably the best example of what appears like an early attempt that needs rework. Oddly shaped, cluttery, and makes the texture-stretch when moving super obvious. Some other armors (and MTX slots in general), despite the varying degrees of waxy incomplete appearance, look much more deliberate and professional, which makes the lesser ones just that much more unappealing. I think the amount of time spent on MTX development should include updates to existing items so that each release of new items comes with a few of those updates.

  • For a few other examples: compare the Arcane Orery to Champion’s Pass (minus the placeholder flame walls). The former looks like something from Warcraft a decade ago. The Fire Warden’s wings have beautifully detailed 3D art, but also a placeholder-seeming bolted-on flame animation. Void Mantle has a low-poly texture that appears scaled up from a smaller artwork. If we could just get a footnote attached to these to indicate it will be modernized at some point, that would cover it. Begging the question: will MTX get updated?

  • Skill animations: I find that skill MTX seems to render with fewer frames than the rest of the game. Even with LE apparently cranking my PC hardware, the overall framerate stays nice and high, but skills appear to render separately and with far fewer frames. I’m hoping this is just more placeholder. Chain of Torment Heartseeker is an example of this, which also gives the impression of incomplete animation work generally (like the hard edge line when it recurves).

  • Cloaks: I’ve stopped using these. The animation is clunky, glitchy, and unnatural looking, which is a shame since the art on most is pretty sharp. Swordmaster’s arsenal looks awesome, but just kind of floats there. The Autumnal Wrap looks nice straight on, but during gameplay looks incomplete.

PETS

  • Idling: Less rhythmic repetition, more animations and variety, please. I like the Embermane Tiger art, but no longer use it because I’m tired of the roar sound while I’m doing stash management. Seeing five Gloomfeathers in town is boring while they just hover there.

  • Movement: follow motion is a bit choppy and unappealing, and another reason I’ve stopped using pets. This needs to be smoothed out in some way.

  • Old art: Can Skullen and YiQi pets get updated?

WHERE I SPEND OR DON’T

  • Goofy stuff: I don’t expect I’ll ever buy the shark head or things like that. Anything particularly cartoonish or dramatically outside the game aesthetic will most likely stay outside my collection.

  • Intent of look: cohesiveness is much more important to me than theme. I might find there are enough options to style myself in all red and gold, but doing so includes bloody animations, shiny wings, an oversized weapon, and different textures in every armor slot. Cool. Or maybe I want to structure a particular silhouette, and end up with a three-color non-complementary palette. Also cool. My usually process is to pick a centerpiece then build from there and find what fits. Maybe nothing does and I start over. It’s rare I would approach with the goal of just needing something green in every slot.

  • Day 1 gearing: I’ll usually start playing with MTX setups after the first 30 to 60 minutes of a new build, trying new things as I change my weapons and skills around. A setup I’m really happy with can bring me to keep playing a build longer when I might otherwise reroll; just as well, a really great build with excellent gameplay will keep me going regardless of MTX, and is about a coin-flip whether I’d spend points on it.

  • State of gameplay feel: any MTX I buy now comes with the copium of the game’s future state validating it. There’s still a lot that feels unfinished, especially the sense of impactfulness and responsiveness I (don’t) receive from sound design and movement. We’re just not quite there yet, which keeps me timid about spending points not knowing what I’ll still want later.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

All things considered at the moment, if I didn’t already have points from Ardent Creator and Gladiator, I don’t think I would buy points to get any MTX right now. Most of what I have I don’t want to use, and the few things I do use don’t improve my experience as much as I would like beyond the default art. In many cases, I find the default art better than spending points anyway.

The MTX store seems to beg a question of its own: does LE have a MTX design philosophy? It seems either there isn’t one yet, or the MTX designers have relatively free reign so far. There is so much disparity in aesthetic, quality, storytelling, and ideas in general that I wonder whether unique cohesive looks are actually something I can strive for, rather than just the simple theme of “make it all purple.”

ONE LAST THING

What happened to this sick look from years ago? I was really hoping to someday transmog into it, and if I was a cosplayer it would have been my LE convention outfit:

Hey EHG-team, appreciate you opening this up!

Complete armor sets and skill effects that truly change how a skill looks and reads are what feel best to buy, because they lock in class fantasy and make it easier to connect with a character long-term.
I’d also love more mix‑and‑match options across sets and simple dye channels, so pieces can be combined and tinted for extra identity without hurting readability.

I’m most into darker motifs that fit Last Epoch’s tone: necromancy, death, blood, soul, spirit, macabre, brutal (while avoiding anything kitschy or out of place that breaks immersion).
Some materials can read a bit plastic; more grounded surface detail and roughness (worn metal, bone, stitched leather, fabric texture) would make cosmetics feel more premium and believable.

I’ve held off on some items because character and pet animations sometimes feel a little stiff or floaty to me; not meant disrespectfully at all, but they stand out in a way that pulls me out of the fantasy.
That’s why I passed on the recent scorpion and hellhound pets even though I liked the concepts.

Thanks for listening and for keeping purchases cosmetic‑only; looking forward to what’s next!

In the short term: not long ago I made this post in the suggestions section. It is specifically about the Soul Eater armor but more generally it would be great to see cohesive armor bundles with what you already have in offer in the store, something like “armor set + pet + 2 or 3 skills cosmetics for skills that are normally used together” with a 20% or 30% discount.

In the long term: the cosmetics are alright, supporter packs have good quality (although you could also add them to the store so that people who don’t buy the whole pack can still buy individual pieces they like). The general theme of the game is in my opinion excellent. It is an original story and there are unique visuals and styles that separate this game from other fantasy style games. I would love to see this uniqueness cranked up to 1000% mixed up with the typical “dark fantasy sword and shield knight vs dragon” kind of thing, I think it would suit the lore of fighting for all eternity the Corruption and the Immortal Empire. Also another idea, to make a couple of sets inspired by current game factions e.g. Rayeh’s followers army’s armor that are golden with wings and fangs everywhere are dope, it would be cool to have an armor sey based off of that.

Skill effects offer the best value, hands down.

Themes are a difficult ask, I think a better suggestion would be to have more options in each category. Right now there isn’t even a purchasable staff cosmetic, at all.

The primary influence over purchasing decisions for cosmetics has been the lack of options. As it stands there’s no way to feel unique with a look when there’s 1-2 options for any given slot outside of bundles.

  • Which items do you feel offer the best value or appeal, and why?
Portals, i dont like armour cosmetics, becouse i rarely can see it and dont rly care about how i look, i like that the portals are visible and change the game visuals.
  • Are there specific themes, styles, or item types you’d like to see more of? Less of?
I dont like to see cosmetics that are way out of the theme of the game or r discrupting for other players (like playing goblins in PoE)
  • Are there any items you’ve avoided purchasing, and what influenced that decision?
Armor sets, i explained my reason in first answer.

Personally, i really like the items from the core game supporter packs, and specifically the packs from last season. This seasons supporter packs weren’t really worth it all to much for me personally just because the other packs have a effect attached to them, whereas this pack only really had just a basic armor set that you could arguably just put in game. Especially when it comes to the supporter packs, i think you need to go all out for it to an extent, obviously dont go bankrupt trying to design it, but something that isnt an armor set that could be base game for 40$ is not really a good idea. For specific themes, i really like the void stuff you guys have designed, would like to see more of that, and basically all of the dragon themed armors are actually very well designed.

Community: “The core gameplay loop kinda sucks, many people are quitting, please fix this and that”
EHG: “No, but what kind of MTX would you like tho?”

EHG are really living in their own world.

Void knight is very popular but there’s not a lot of cosmetics that fit the vibe for me. I want darker armor. So far the art styles are hit or miss, nothing like super bad at all. The other thing is I feel too much is going straight into supporter packs. I have yet to spend all my points simply because not enough cosmetics get released direct to the store that I’m interested in.

The core gameplay loop is great, cosmetics is in fact literally my biggest complaint for a while.

I personally like applying cosmetics to my characters as I feel that they get more and more powerful. It feels weird to me to put super epic cosmetics on a level 1 character so I usually add a little at a time maybe starting with just a movement cosmetic at level 20, then adding a cloak at level 40 and so on. Even in the 80s and 90s I wont add epic looking cosmetics until I really feel the character has achieved the power that its portraying. In some cases, I just don’t find an option for a character at all even in end game that feels grounded enough.

This being said there’s not a lot of options to apply cosmetics in the beginning and mid-tier progression of a character. Its mostly just a jump right from 0 to epic. You’re pretty much stuck with the look of whatever the base item is. This is where I would love to see more of a focus on a transmog system to unlock the option to play around with the other skins that already exists. Maybe some people would feel differently but I’d be happy to pay $10 or something to unlock all the existing skins or something like that to support the efforts in setting up the system.

In addition to this, maybe some options for packs that are like a bulk sets of “basic” cosmetics to unlock. With these packs having more of an emphasis on quantity over epicness. Sometimes I just want a look that feels fresh, clean and thought out but simple, and not a mismatched mess

I’d love to see some options for a cursor cosmetic! I lose sight of my mouse cursor a lot when I play because it blends in with all the action on my screen. Especially during Echoes and the Arena. That and a cool circular shield cosmetic.

Yes! I second this! I would love cursor cosmetics with varying size options!

  • Full armor sets and skill modifications. Full armor sets are really nice to have and make it easier to mix and match different sets. Skill mods usually make the skills feel different, mainly by the new special effects and sounds

  • Themes that kind of fit the game styling. I understand this is not always possible and sometimes this can make for better styling in some cases

  • I have avoided footprints. There are just not my thing and find them kind of boring

Cosmetics are cool, but they aren’t a huge motivator for me.

Honestly, I would pay for convivence like having better stash management - i.e. a pre-setup dedicated slot for every unique and set item, don’t need a currency tab like POE, but that kind of thing that bring real quality of life - at least that’s what I bought in POE more than cosmetics.
For that I purchased the points or supporter packs to get points to get stash tabs and the cosmetics were just gravy.

Maybe something cool like “adaptive” stash tabs for farming that saves you some steps in setting up the tab priority stuff. I.e. if I am searching for exalted 1h swords, if I throw one in a “adaptive” tab, it will take that item and use that as the template, then any 1h exalted swords I throw in my stash automatically sort to that tab?

Maybe some kind of prophecy guidance UI? It can be tedious looking through all of the prophecies you’ve bought, so it might be kind of nice to have a QoL UI to group them visually or categorically (and automatically) for you so that at a glance without reading each one, I can see, for instance, that I have 6 of them that will trigger if I go beat Herot.

I probably don’t have the best ideas, but wanted to just share that things that make my (Last Epoch) life easier and less tedious are appealing. Supporting EHG is appealing.
Cosmetics are fine but not as much of a driver for me.

I’m happy with the cosmetics. Just need more. A bigger variety.

I don’t post here really at all, but I’ve played quite a bit of LE thus far!

Just so you know where I’m coming from, I also have played a lot of Diablo 4, and own / purchased a lot of their cosmetics. Now on to your questions:

So I have only purchased one pack from you guys. The primal legend one with the release of this season. I did it as a supporter through Aaron @ ActionRPGs referral link thing. With that came some of your points to purchase other single items. I mainly did that purchase as a support for Aaron and your game. I don’t actually think I got good “value” for these items simply because I think the cost of micro transactions and cosmetics is absolutely ludacris. However, similarly to paying $15 at my local bakery for a loaf of bread, I wanted to support the community and people building the game.

I bought this entire game for $45 Canadian or whatever it was. I don’t think I should have to pay another $15 Canadian to make my Sabertooth look different. 1/3rd of the entire game for one animal? Sorry, in no world is that “value.” I understand WHY it’s priced this way, but unless its $0.99 or something, value is not a word that should ever be used for things like this.

As for appeal - my personal preference are items that are a bit more non-flashy. (most of the time) So of the primal legend pack I bought the dinosaur outfit is my favourite, but I also mostly played characters I feel didn’t thematically fit any of the outfits anyway so I’m not really using them. I did however end up getting the “void walkers gaze” with some extra points because I think it makes my character feel more like this time traveler that’s getting corrupted by the void and space he’s moving around in.

My REAL desire for MTX / appearance in this game would be a full transmog system for all the different armor pieces, a character customization menu where you can adjust if each character is male, female, their size, hair colour, etc, and then purchase individual pieces of gear, weapons, skill mtx etc, that fits that specific character you created. It’s the overall feeling of everything coming together that is most enticing.

I like MTX that fits specific characters. For example, I would never buy the “Oblivions Champion” armor set and put it on my rogue. That just feels ridiculous. Void Knight only, kind of thing. Dragon Riders regalia as well to me would look silly on a rogue or a mage.

My absolute favourite armor piece you released is the Hedgemage’s Hat - I bought this with extra points nad started a mage simply because I loved the hat so much. It just thematically fit the character so perfectly.

I also think it would go a long way releasing skill MTX as small packs for specific character classes. For example, one of my favourite characters to play is a Falconer Acid Flask character, but Acid Flask done as fire so I just feel like I’m dashing around throwing grenades at everyone, but the only thing that is actually on fire is the acid flask.

Maybe there’s a skill pack that makes the other skills fire based to compliment the entire look? Everytime I use shift I leave a trail of fire behind me. My falcon is on fire in the sky. ETc. things like that.

Most of everything… $22 CAD to make my summon Raptor have wings? come on.

Personally there’s two big reasons I haven’t really purchased much besides the supporter pack.

1.) Too expensive and I don’t see much value in any of it.

2.) Everything is too “generic” like it was designed to go on every character and doesn’t feel made for the specific characters I want to play. It is an RPG, after all.

I think I saw someone else add a comment that they don’t like throwing epic armor on a level 1, as it feels weird.
I wanted to echo this.
I want my armor to not just be epic, but match my power level and look how it feels.

It is probably a complicated ask, but I would 1000% be behind an awesome armor that grew with you and became more powerful and epic looking as your character got more powerful.

Like, even if it was relatively simple, like every 15 levels it visually leveled up and reached the max potential at 90 or something like that.
The “legendary” Ezreal skin in LoL comes to mind.
Modifying look, animations, footsteps, etc. would be very cool.

I think the ultimate cosmetic would include all of the above.
It would include look, animations, sound effects, footsteps, portals, movement (dodge roll) effects, weapon/skill effects, etc.
Would be very fun to have everything about your character follow a power arc in the same way that your actual power has a power arc.
