Your Cosmetic Feedback Could Shape What’s Next in Last Epoch

I’m happy with the cosmetics. Just need more. A bigger variety.

I don’t post here really at all, but I’ve played quite a bit of LE thus far!

Just so you know where I’m coming from, I also have played a lot of Diablo 4, and own / purchased a lot of their cosmetics. Now on to your questions:

So I have only purchased one pack from you guys. The primal legend one with the release of this season. I did it as a supporter through Aaron @ ActionRPGs referral link thing. With that came some of your points to purchase other single items. I mainly did that purchase as a support for Aaron and your game. I don’t actually think I got good “value” for these items simply because I think the cost of micro transactions and cosmetics is absolutely ludacris. However, similarly to paying $15 at my local bakery for a loaf of bread, I wanted to support the community and people building the game.

I bought this entire game for $45 Canadian or whatever it was. I don’t think I should have to pay another $15 Canadian to make my Sabertooth look different. 1/3rd of the entire game for one animal? Sorry, in no world is that “value.” I understand WHY it’s priced this way, but unless its $0.99 or something, value is not a word that should ever be used for things like this.

As for appeal - my personal preference are items that are a bit more non-flashy. (most of the time) So of the primal legend pack I bought the dinosaur outfit is my favourite, but I also mostly played characters I feel didn’t thematically fit any of the outfits anyway so I’m not really using them. I did however end up getting the “void walkers gaze” with some extra points because I think it makes my character feel more like this time traveler that’s getting corrupted by the void and space he’s moving around in.

My REAL desire for MTX / appearance in this game would be a full transmog system for all the different armor pieces, a character customization menu where you can adjust if each character is male, female, their size, hair colour, etc, and then purchase individual pieces of gear, weapons, skill mtx etc, that fits that specific character you created. It’s the overall feeling of everything coming together that is most enticing.

I like MTX that fits specific characters. For example, I would never buy the “Oblivions Champion” armor set and put it on my rogue. That just feels ridiculous. Void Knight only, kind of thing. Dragon Riders regalia as well to me would look silly on a rogue or a mage.

My absolute favourite armor piece you released is the Hedgemage’s Hat - I bought this with extra points nad started a mage simply because I loved the hat so much. It just thematically fit the character so perfectly.

I also think it would go a long way releasing skill MTX as small packs for specific character classes. For example, one of my favourite characters to play is a Falconer Acid Flask character, but Acid Flask done as fire so I just feel like I’m dashing around throwing grenades at everyone, but the only thing that is actually on fire is the acid flask.

Maybe there’s a skill pack that makes the other skills fire based to compliment the entire look? Everytime I use shift I leave a trail of fire behind me. My falcon is on fire in the sky. ETc. things like that.

Most of everything… $22 CAD to make my summon Raptor have wings? come on.

Personally there’s two big reasons I haven’t really purchased much besides the supporter pack.

1.) Too expensive and I don’t see much value in any of it.

2.) Everything is too “generic” like it was designed to go on every character and doesn’t feel made for the specific characters I want to play. It is an RPG, after all.

I think I saw someone else add a comment that they don’t like throwing epic armor on a level 1, as it feels weird.
I wanted to echo this.
I want my armor to not just be epic, but match my power level and look how it feels.

It is probably a complicated ask, but I would 1000% be behind an awesome armor that grew with you and became more powerful and epic looking as your character got more powerful.

Like, even if it was relatively simple, like every 15 levels it visually leveled up and reached the max potential at 90 or something like that.
The “legendary” Ezreal skin in LoL comes to mind.
Modifying look, animations, footsteps, etc. would be very cool.

I think the ultimate cosmetic would include all of the above.
It would include look, animations, sound effects, footsteps, portals, movement (dodge roll) effects, weapon/skill effects, etc.
Would be very fun to have everything about your character follow a power arc in the same way that your actual power has a power arc.

Unity has technical limitations concerning mouse cursors, for all I know.

  1. i personaly want more skill mtx as those are often the most fun part of the builds themselves
take the voidknight, allmost all the skills used are purple, but you want to throw in some of the paladin skills wich a bright golden and shining, it would be great if i could have all be golden or all be purple to match the build im going for
to often there ias always that one skill that just doesnt fit the build and it makes me not want to spend my money on mtx to begine with
this is more for if i want to play a build again as im not expecting every single skill on every class to have every theme, but if a build gets populare during a season , then it would be a good build to make a themed mtx around for those who would want to play the build in later seasons

  2. if you make weapon/offhand mtx , pls make them work for all weapon types not only one specific weapontype
like this 2 handed sword mtx looks dope AF but its only for 2 handed swords, but the build that it would fit best with dont use 2 handed swords
in short, i really want weapon mtx to not be locked to only 1 or 2 specific weapon types
instead make it a theme , like here is a flaming dragon weapon mtx and have it work for every type of weapon

  3. expanding on the second topic , i avoid weapns mtx for the same reason i listed already
i also mostly avoid pet mtx but thats more a personal thing as i dont really care for them

Understood, I have heard Mike mention this in the Friday live streams. I’m just calling out that I’d pay money for it if a solution was found.

Maybe hide the Unity cursor and display an image that follows the cursor? I don’t know how that all works but I do have dollars waiting for it to happen.

Which part of “spam troves until you get an imprint drop - gamba with rune of havoc / removal / glyph of chaos - brick - repeat” is “great” to you exactly?
Or have you not reached the point of Exalt crafting yet?

And if the gameplay was so “great”, then surely there would be more people online than 1800 in a game that sold 3 million copies?

I briefly looked into a software cursor solution myself, using an ingame object as a changeable cursor. It’s doable, but:
The problem seems to be that it’s more prone to bugs, input latency, FPS, and misaligned clicks.

Ok so I’m not sure if this is gonna happen but I have certain really specific things I wanna see.

  1. Portals are easily the coolest things in the game one can buy and I own like 4 or 5 of them. The thing is I can only use 1 of them at a time (2 if I count the not complete one, which rarely happens). I would love to rotate between them but no such option exists. Not being able to use all of them really feels like I shouldn’t have bought them and just bought 1 which was the best one acc to me and I don’t like that.
  2. In the woven legends pack there were some cool things I bought, the storm set where there was this storm discharge animation that periodically kept coming was I feel the coolest thing EHG has ever done. In the woven set the webs from the feet to the floor is also cool, I think more animation changes along with the cosmetics is absolutely a must.
  3. In skill mtx I think again there should be a way to rotate the mtxs to keep things fresh.

In totality we need one basic feature compulsorily to make us buy more which is the shuffle cosmetics so we can use more than 1 in each slot on a rotating basis. Also we need more animations linked to cosmetics. Like I bought a knife in cs2 for 2.8k which unlocked different animations.

That’s fair

This topic of cursors in general makes me think of a potential broad idea of supporting through cosmetics. Maybe adding cosmetics to most additions and improvements to the game so folk can put money on the things that they appreciate that get added. Nothing that adds a pay wall but just ways so we can put money on the things we’re glad got added.

These cursor skins are just an example but maybe some other ideas;

  • Make improvements to the stash tab system → add some fancy icons, UI variations or something for a few bucks

  • Add new skill → add new skill animation

  • Improve character sheet → add skins for character sheet

  • Make pets collect things → add new pets

  • Overhaul the Marksman Tree → add Marksman themed cosmetic set

  • Add sounds to filter → add more sounds for a few bucks

  • Add transmog system → add option to unlock all legacy skins on launch for a few bucks

I personally buy supporter packs just for the sake of support so maybe that idea can be spread out more broadly. And if they’re in smaller chunks and more focused more folk might do the same. This way you get an additional path for feedback too.

I think of this in parallel with local political support, the $1 you get from a mass of people often out weighs the big $$ you get from a whale. So there’s value in pathways for both.

Just a thought.

Some sexy armor so we can at least tell the difference between sexes.

I don’t really care about cosmetics in games. This season I bought my friend a game copy instead of cosmetics for myself. I will say that the packs seem ok, the individual items seems ridiculously expensive. $ 10 for a single helmet/weapon/skill is crazy! Or am I missing something?

  • I think your price points are very well suited for your position and the introduction of a rotating sale in the in game shop is great.

  • I’d like to see more polishing off of set themes, a lot of themes lack parts of the mtx, like foot steps or weapon skins or back items. Always more skill MTX, both of these are a problem of time not that I believed you were never going to make them.

  • Quit making Water based MTX. What the hell even are these doing here. The game doesn’t have any class or abilities that are freaking water themed. I don’t know who at EHG loves the ocean but they need to make a freaking class first that would make me give a crap about sharks or deep sea creatures in the first place. It baffled me that you have so much ocean and water MTX for a game without a Water class… or a pirate or something! I love this game and the people who make it but holy crap it baffled me that the Abyssal Legend Supporter Pack was chocked full of so much stuff that had no reason to use in game…

  • My closing wishes are, more skill MTX, more cohesive MTX to polish off themes of sets, NO MORE WATER MTX, Weapon Cosmetics to be equipped in both hands for dual wielding, pets to be equipped in both slots so I don’t have to buy multiple packs to get two of the same pets, which I did so I can have two capybaras, and please never do a loot box.

From someone that always buys support packs, its not always about price, quality is very important, in between POE 2 and D4 is the blend of quality.

Im happy to support a form of “battle pass” with cheaper MTX costs, this will give you a constant cash injection every 4 months, but if you do the D4 model it will fail, high battlepass costs and even higher cosmetic costs = D4 BAD

The future of ARPG MTX is model injections. POE 2 have tested this with the goblin, its a way that everyone plays the same character and will look different without re-doing the entire character creation objects. Then models can interact with outfits etc etc.

It will be MMO meets ARPG character styles.

Oh and im a perv so any sexy items for my female characters are always welcome hahaha

Make MTX for stash the box itself, and make mtx for inside stash visuals, unique collection mtx in the stash, hideout stash and all of what u do already just in better quality it doesnt look good so far

i know this is highly subjective, here we go.

  • Which items do you feel offer the best value or appeal, and why?
none (because i dont like the stlye of them, not because of pricing)

  • Are there specific themes, styles, or item types you’d like to see more of? Less of?

  1. I’d love to see darker styles.
  2. less overdrawn cosmetics would be great, they all look quite generic, just too many unnecessary “details” without a unique style.
  3. more simplified looks with more emphasis on theme than “details”
  • Are there any items you’ve avoided purchasing, and what influenced that decision?
  1. most of them dont look good to be honest. I’d love to see cleaner MTX for sets.
  2. we need more variety.

BONUS: Try giving players one MTX of a specific set through content, if they like it, they can purchase the rest through the store. I can imagine that this aproach can result in more mtx sales.

Functionality over pure visual pleasantry is how I would be most willing to spend points;
I value mtx’s that provide some form of gameplay advantage (information), like:

  • Tracking the number of kills/deaths, loot dropped, time spent, exp gained and so on visually. For reference, in Path of Exile you can buy the “Pilfering Ring” mtx that tracks how many currency drops the player picked up when hovering over the mtx, or a Helmet mtx that shows the player K/D ratio, or a set of items that become more bloodied the lower your lifepool becomes. These “Trackers” provide visual information that can be feedback to the player, and are hence especially appealing to the min-maxers that want to maximize a strategy in terms of time spent and rewards. But ultimately, they are not changing gameplay or drops in any way, so they are not pay to win, just some form of Quality of Life
  • Mtx’s for things that don’t have a real visual effect but could benefit from having one, such as on-kill-effects against monsters. In Path of Exile, you can have “Finisher Effects” when defeating Rare or Unique enemies, and they can be visually impressive enough to tell the player clearly “the danger has passed, it’s dead”. You can also be very creative with such effects, for example making corpses spawn flowers like spider lilies, or make enemies explode in a burst of holy energy to exorcise them. Personally I would love to spread flowers of death wherever my character goes
  • The most important category of mtx to be visually pleasing has to be skill effects. If I love playing a specific skill every season, I wouldn’t mind spending some points to make it look and feel “special”, which means for EHG: Make skill mtx’s that look and feel more special than just a colour change (unless it’s a free twitch drop, then I don’t mind)

As for things I would never buy with my points:

  • Overpriced single slot mtx’s
  • Most things with no functionality, to be honest

Which items do you feel offer the best value or appeal, and why?

Overall, the best value for me are the supporter packs, as they offer a mix of Skins/Portals/Pets and some points for the shop.

I like MTX with a “good match” between either the type of character i play or the type of damage i deal.
For example, if i play a VoidKnight, a heavy dark/purple style would be nice.
Necromancer? Something lightweight in dark colors, maybe with matching “Necrotic-like colors/effects” on it.
For a rogue, also something lightweight is more feasible. I just could not apply a “heavy armor” set to any rogue - even if it is the best armor set your have

Some Examples of nice supprter packs:

Nice ones:
The “Carrion” theme in Primal Vanquisher (dark/red).

OK ones:
The “Temple” theme Primal Legend (these “exalted” looking white/golden things are just not my personal preference, but i think many of them like it)
On top of that, the “Temple” cosmetics look very similar to the “Thunderfang” from the previous purchased Woven Vanquisher MTX.
At least their style goes in the same direction (“shiny exalted” style) which is i don’t like so much.

Are there specific themes, styles, or item types you’d like to see more of? Less of?

More:
Town Portal MTX
Skill effect MTX
Styles in supporter packs matching to the “big changes” in the relevant patches/seasons to match the likely meta characters (could futher improve your supporter pack sale)
Defintely i would invest more points/money if there would be a Hideout!
People spend a lot of money for their home furniture, and a hideout is you “ingame home”
MTX with “added value” for a hideout, like some cosmetics with stats counters for the relevant season
(e.g. with a counter for how many character deaths/abbi & uber abbi beats/maximum corruption, LP4 drops, etc…)

Are there any items you’ve avoided purchasing, and what influenced that decision?

Footprints and Wings - just don’t like any sort of it in any game
Skill MTX for skills i don’t play yet
I also do not play with pets, so pets cosmetics are not relevant for me.
Cartoonish-like MTX just because it doesn’t seem to be worth anything (so my advise would be to focus on quality instead of quantity for the Looks).

I have the woven legends pack and some twitch drops.
I’m still hesitant buying others, but want to get the primal legends and the 30$ game upgrade too.
Big packs feel like great value, but I wish they wouldn’t be more than 40$/€ (personally).

Most important: Please allow me to change my cursor to make it more visible (even if it was MTX).

Skill MTX

  • Are probably most useful when playing
  • I would buy some that look really cool and would like one for every skill (almost only playing Rogue)
  • Stuff like the Smoke Bomb MTX that makes the range more visible are the most useful (would be great for Hail of Arrows too)

Portals

  • I really like portals, but they need to really convinve me to buy a specific one.

Pets

  • Pets are nice and I really enjoy them generally (in other games too)
  • They should do something when playing (picking up gold e.g.)
  • Sometimes they are annoying, if I think they are enemies

Armor sets

  • I love the Woven set
  • a really cool looking armor set is most likely what I would spent money on (besides packs in general)
  • I don’t like too cartoonish armors

Weapons

  • I wish I had more bow skins

General ideas and thoughts:

  • improve the previews (show on character and let us zoom in and rotate)
  • show character on loading screens so we can see them
  • offer stuff on sale to make people feel like getting a bargain (switch those regularly)

I know hideouts would be cool, you could have all our pets there, sell additional hideout cosmetics and hideouts themselves,
but I would also like a more central town where we can do everything we need to (sell stuff of course, change passives, change blessings, buy primordials, trade keys, faction NPCs, training dummies), so we don’t need to jump around and we have more opportunities to see other players and show off.
I assume training dummies in a real town won’t work, but it would be cool to have such a hub. (Additionally please add blessings NPC to Champion’s Gate ;-))

And another cool addition would be stuff with functionality like statistics for our runs. I think PoE has map devices that give you additional information about your run, drops etc.
