Seems the streamers were able to get online OK but it’s LE-52 for most of us. Is it just EU servers of global issue? Such a shame after all the hype and promotion, the game deserved a good start. Will there be an official update on the situation?

I believe you can either set Steam to offline mode or start LE with an --offline argument to access offline mode. Haven’t tested it yet, but sounds like it would work.
