Wide Spread Offline Game Issue

I have been having problems with my offline game play and it seems that I am not the only one having it, as someone has actually made a video for those having offline game issues: Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWfUBMDzC5U

The problem that I am having is that my offline character will not load up, I have tried creating a new offline character. After the opening start screen, and it goes to the loading screen. But that is where things go wrong, the game does not start. I have to press the Esc key to bring up the menue for me to leave the game, I go to select offline, and go to that created character, but even they will not load, and this is the same for every other character, I have tried them all.

Secondly I am not the only one not being able to play offline. My humbled appologies for not making this matter clear in the first place and this is the problem that I am talking about, offline game play, that I am not the only one to be having this problem

I am surprised however, that there is only just the one comment, but I can assure you all, that I have posted this issue on steam too and someone there too is also having a problem with their offline game play. Before anyone suggests anything, I have tried everything, including sending a ticket to EHG and so far the person that has been dealing with my case has not given me a satisfactory solution to help fix my problem. the solution given in the video works, but at a cost.

Starting a complete fresh means no gold, no shards etc. nothing in the chest either and everything that I have spent months of playing is gone, all of my valuable stash, gone, everything is gone and this applies to every other offline player using the same solve solution as given in that video.

But I am sorry, but for me personally and I can’t be the only one to feel this way, but that solution is completely unacceptable. I want my original offline game play fixed/restored please and this is for the devs, or for whomever this issue it concerns. I have tried going on discord, but for some odd reason, I am not allowed to even send a damn text there. I will post about that shortly. As far as I know, I have done nothing wrong, in fact, I have never used discord in my entire life.

Anyway, please someone send a copy of this post to whom ever this matter concerns please. I really would appreciate it. Obviously, there is an offline game issue for the person to have made that video in the first place. Please do not focus on the fact that there is only just the one comment on the video. There must be other offline players having the exact same problem as me. I have even found in an online search posts on reddit for one example and everywhere else about the offline game issue. So clearly there is one, so this needs to be brought please to the people who can fix the issue, with the hope that EHG are not trying to pull a fast one us offline players by forcing us tp play online instead. Please, please help. The issue is causign me much, much stress and I am a suffer of stress, depression and anxiety, and this offline game issue is only actually making those problems even worse. Someone in EHG needs to fix the problem and asap. Please, I would beg if I thought it would help.

You’ve not actually said what the problem is & that video is just a long list of generic things to try, including switching to true offline mode.

They aren’t, that’s why they provided the true offline mode.

Offline play means your saves are locally stored on your PC.

C:\Users\user\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch\Saves

The ‘user’ folder is your account name on your PC. It might be a hidden folder, so you need to make it visible if it doesn’t open with the direct path.

Check if your save files are in the above saves folder.

Have you changed anything with your PC? E.g new profile, different PC, installed other software (like antivirus, PC ‘cleanup’ software).

Check your recycle bin.

EHG can’t restore your files if you’re playing offline, they’re not on EHG’s server.

Llama. I have just updated my post. Sorry for not including my over all problem, that is on me. Just so frustrated, please forgive me.

Headsoup. I have done that. For the main users folder I have revealed the following files: GamingRoot. Dumpstack. Setup. & Uefiscan and under the sub user folder that usually shows public and user, A folder appeared named Default. I do not know if any of those help and as I have mentioned in my post, that I am not the only one experiencing not being able to play offline.

Hello, I’m one of the CM’s. Someone let me know you needed a hand!

This is the full copy/paste of the ‘Offline Save Fille Issues’ FAQ from Discord, please read it thoroughly before trying any of the steps below and remember to make a backup of your files!

If you are having issues loading Offline characters please try the following;

  • Verify your Steam Files

  • Assuming you are on Windows, you can go to this area on your PC:

Please make and keep a back up copy of your Save Folder before making any changes. You may also need to disable Steam Cloud Saves for the changes to take effect.

If you do not have a backup Save Folder and proceed to delete or edit the files causing further issues, we will not be able to help as these files are only stored locally on your machine and not on our Servers. You may be able to recover historical Saves from Steam following instructions at the bottom of this post.

C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch\Saves

Note: In order to see the [AppData] folder you must have “Hidden Folders” visible And there you should be able to see all of your save files. These files can be opened on notepad and there you’d be able to see the character name/level/etc. There are backups of each save file with the ending [.bak] extension. If you can find your character in one of those save files you can restore it by simply removing the [.bak] extension [do not delete the entire folder - only the extension]

  • Go to the Saves directory mentioned in the original post C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch\Saves and sort your files by Date Modified to make identifying the culprits a little easier.

Chances are good that one of your Stash files (e.g. STASH_CYCLE_2_0) or Character files (e.g. 1CHARACTERSLOT_BETA_4) got corrupted. Start by opening the most recently modified files in a text editor (Notepad is fine, Notepad++ is better) until you find the first file with data that is obviously corrupt and looks quite different from the rest of the files. Most likely, if you’re using Notepad, the file contents will appear to be blank, and if you’re using something like Notepad++ with the show all characters option enabled, the file will show something like “NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL…”.

Now that you’ve identified a corrupt file, go ahead and delete it (you’re welcome to make a backup copy first if you like). For whatever that file name was, there will be a corresponding .bak copy - make a copy of the .bak file, and rename it to whatever the name of the corrupt file was, i.e. if your corrupt file was called “STASH_CYCLE_2_0”, you would delete STASH_CYCLE_2_0, then make a copy of STASH_CYCLE_2_0.bak, and rename the copy to “STASH_CYCLE_2_0”.

Run Last Epoch, either in full offline or online mode (just select Offline Mode in-game), and check if you can successfully log in with your existing characters. If not, check for more corrupt files and repeat steps if you find any.

If the backup files are missing, or also corrupt, you can try downloading historical saves from Steam. This requires that you have Steam Cloud Saves enabled for Last Epoch, and that Steam has had the opportunity to upload previous save states. In order to restore from Steam Cloud, you can download the replacement save files at the following URL: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

Averielle, greetings to you and thank you for your assistance in this matter, it is grately appreciated, but more than that, you are appreciated. I am sorry to report, that I have tried everything that you have suggested and alas, sadly, nothing works other than the solution given in the YouTube link, which I have posted here. Also I wish to say and have go on record, that I am however not the only one to be having problems with not being to play offline, other people are also experiencing the same difficulty in being unable to play offline either. This fact I can only report from an online search that I di for being unable to play offline and those results show that other people are having problems too with being unable to play offline.

One of the “fixes” suggested by the video is to delete

C:\Users%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games

folder.

If you ever did that “fix” and did NOT backup the folder, then you literally deleted all your offline saves. Including stash.

If you did this with Steam Cloud Saving disabled, I’m pretty sure you have no way of recovering your saves.

The issue where sometimes the game goes into a loading screen as if I just started my first character happens to me too, always after patch or hotfix, and there’s always a CRC mismatch in one of the datafiles, that’s why it never loads. The player.log always mentions which file is the problem.

My routine to fix this:

  1. Force-quit the game.
  2. Check the Player.log and find the file that’s causing the issue. Usually something like

Last Epoch_Data\StreamingAssets\aa\StandaloneWindows64
\duplicateassetssortedbylabel_assets_duplicatebundle372.bundle

  1. Find that file in my game installation folder.
  2. Manually delete the problematic file.
  3. Let Steam verify game files and re-download the deleted file.

And then the game works again. This will not recover any deleted savefiles of course.

Psojed, thanks, I will try that suggestion. At this point, I will try anything. And Not to worry, I made a back up of the entire folder before I deleted the EHG folder and I did not delete any game saves and I did not turn off the Steam Cloud during the time of when the problem occured. I did reset my computer during game play, but that’s the only thing that I did, and since then, I have been having problems, but like I said, I have found out however that I am not the only one not being able to play offline. So the fact that I did a reset during midgame is not the problem, maybe that might have caused a problem, but as since other people are having offline game play problems too, I doubt that what I did had any real impact on my game files in anyway. As best as I understand things, no one can play their game offline.

There was a hotfix yesterday, so this time I was deleting this file.

actors_player_specific_visuals_assets_all.bundle

Psojed, Hi there, I have managed to find the Player-Prev text document but not the Player.log. Could you give me a screen shot of what that looks like please? I have Autism and part of that means, that I relate to visual stimuli better, which in short means that I better understand something when it is presented to me visually. So I really would appreciate if you could do that for me please. Thank you in advance.

Look through the Player-Prev then. It’s in the same location.

Psojed, thank you, I really appreciate that, but more than that. You are appreciated. I have player not player.log. But I assume that will be the same thing.

Oh I see, your file name extensions are hidden. Then yes, it’s the “player” file

Psojed. No, I have the files not hidden, I have them unhidden. “Player” is the Player.log, it says so on the Text Editor. It just named Player instead, I do not know why. I have looked at the log, but there is a whole string of confusing text. Could you please help now narrow it down please with another screenshot of what I need to be looking for and then I can delete that and I hope that will fix the problem that I am having. Thank you so much, you have been Super Awesome. :grinning:

Open the search function (usually by pressing CTRL+F) and search for the term “assets/” (including the forward slash) and see if you find any error messages.

Mine usually look something like this. First it mentions a CRC Mismatch, then next line mentions an Error, and at the end of that line you get the full path to the file.

CRC Mismatch. Provided ae4740d2, calculated 8b3260d from data. Will not load AssetBundle ‘aa\StandaloneWindows64\actors_player_specific_visuals_assets_all.bundle’

2025-05-03T10:06:09.6801977+00:00 Error RemoteProviderException : Invalid path in AssetBundleProvider: ‘D:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/Last Epoch/Last Epoch_Data/StreamingAssets/aa\StandaloneWindows64\actors_player_specific_visuals_assets_all.bundle’.

Psojed, no results could be found. I am so, so terribly sorry. I did everything as you had put it and I got: Could not find “assets/” Dialog Box.

That’s also a good result, it means you don’t have this issue, so your issue lies elsewhere.

Psojed. Thank you much for all of your efforts, I appreciate you for that, beyond words can say. Unforunately I am still left with nto knowing what is causing my offline game play issue, but it is at least good to know that I am not completely alone with not being able to play offline, other than with the solution given in the video link. It’s an option and I am sure I speak for the other offline players facing the same problem as me. It’s not an ideal option, they too must have spent hours, days, months playing the game, just to loose everything, is no real option at all.
