The problem with that is that I paid 70 bucks a few years ago and got a broken game. And if I want a better game now, I have to pay another 40 bucks.
oh you mean before we needed âle epical uber bosses, and crazy skill synergyâ
And you just made a build and played with it to whatever corruption you liked, then rerolled or waited for a patch?
I started playing in the 0.6 patch cycle i think, from there until 0.9 patch cycle the game was growing every few months, and was a simple little grinder it was really nice.
Now this game feels more like a d3, where you log in, pick whatever is crazy op broken, break the game and log out after a week.
I am high key pretty convinced the game has done nothing but go downhill for my own tastes since 1.0. if I wanted to kill uber bosses and chase crazy builds id play PoE. This was the comfy relaxing chill Arpg, now its just âpoe but badâ
Here is the problem though.
PoE 2 was a game designed âaroundâ dodge roll and WASD.
LE wasnât!! EHG then decided to spend immense development time to incorporate dodge roll and add in WASD. Creating bugs, crashes and other issue with an immense amount of dedication to adding in these features.
This was a mistake, when they added dodge roll I said back then this is gonna be a mistake. They should of focused all that development into CLASSES!!! The campaign and core progression creating and securing LEâs identity in the ARPG genre.
The thing about adding a core feature into a game like Dodge or WASD is the game was never intended to have those mechanics so itâs an after thought and done poorly. Which is sadly what EHG has done with many systems from other ARPGs losing LEâs identity and just making worse versions of other ARPGs systems.
EHG added corruption and the breach mechanic from PoE but they didnât really innovate on it and just added a worse version to satisfy some loud minority of players that donât really exist.
EHG lost their vision for the game a long time ago and decided to ask the players what they wanted and ended up with a game that people donât really want to play, which is why people donât.
There is nothing wrong with player feedback as long as itâs not in the driving seat.
Yea early game was good EHG just got off track and now itâs a mish mosh of other games and becoming convoluted with systems and bugs. EHG should of had a clear vision and kept it simple. Iâm sad that this game likely isnât fixable..
i m not too good at the game and last i played i managed to push my build to near c250. i think i need to add more defence rather than having too much offense. probably i could come back to fix my build but if i m being honest it goes back to âif i m gonna play a game like poe, i might as well just play poeâ.
you mention that poe doesnt respect your time. i agree. modern d-likes rarely do.
you know what i find ironic. LE respects your time way much more than POE when you re in the campaign. but once you get to min maxing your level 90 character, it flips. its easier to get min maxed gear in POE (via trade) compared to LE where you need to win a lottery a few times in a row to get proper min maxed items that you actually want.
as for feeling like you dont need to do uber abby. thats good for you. for me i will only feel that way if uber abby didnt have exclusive gear drops. when the exclusive gear from an uber is really good, ubers stop feeling optional and become the goal. to me aspirational content should feel more of a challenge rather than a goal. if you play SSF and you want drops from uber abby, you have no other choice but to kill uber abby. the best way to do so for most casual folk, is to follow a build guide.
i really dislike saying d4 sucks. i usually joke and say d4 bad. but in reality D4 is really good, just that its not what most modern d-like enjoyers like. myself included.
as per blizzard tradition. the game only gets better 100 years later. lmao. i wanted to boycott d4. saw the team was enthusiastic and quite genuine. gave d4 a shot. realized its still blizzard all along. i skipped all the expansions. have not even got bnet/blizzard launcher installed for a long time. i have zero confidence in blizzard.
i m from an older mindset. i HATE the concept of resetting my progress BUT i do love making alts. hence i really love that LE allows players to play in new cycles with their old gear/characters.
i also love trying to make stupid builds such as melee mages etc. but the more harder end game content is introduced, i am punished for exploring the game in suboptimal ways. so far grim dawn is where i can do this the best. i have a necro+occultist character that is a melee build without any pets despite both those 2 classes being âthe pet classâ. its for sure suboptimal but i can get very far in the game regardless.
i personally like the game to be designed around WASD but i get you. many people like you dont want the game that way. thats on EHG. they have to make that call. if i m being honest, poe2 despite being made with dodges in mind, ended up becoming another poe1 where the best way to play the game is to trivialize content. most games without dodgerolls tend to end up this way.
LE is GOOD. just that its not profitable. despite me not playing LE, i can honestly say LE is a real good game. but i would say the devs were overconfident with their abilities thinking they could follow POEâs model without POEâs fanbase which grew with POE over a decade.
to me the best way moving forward is to make LE have paid expansions. scrap seasonal content.
There is an old Senecaâs quote that I remember from time to time. It states: âNon qui parum habet, sed qui plus cupit quam habet, pauper estâ.
It translates into something like: âIt is not poor the man who has little but the man who desires more than he has.â
Applied to the case here: The game satisfies the needs I set for it, so I donât feel the pressure to reach out for the things I donât need.
I want to play SSF, I donât want to use build guides. For me it is all about actually playing and discovering the game itself. From the ARPG I tried, I find no other one that keeps these things balanced enough to be worth of my time.
So thatâs why I play LE, it is simply offers âenoughâ for me.
Sure this sucks but after D3 everyone shouldâve known what they pay into. I was expecting shit that gets better after 2-3 paid addons because Blizz works in sloth speeds. So my expectations were met kind of. Then again I had arround 1k hours with D4 and I look forward to play more. After time I get my money worth out of it I guess.
I personaly dislike WoW. That game is so bad and killed a genre mostly I hate it pretty much. Then again I canât say it sucks because itâs still one of the better MMOâs out there. D4 was okay for the most time unispired but okay. With the last season it becam fun to me and many others. Objectively itâs still the best and most popular H&S out there IF you are the target audience.
How much of that was before the expansions? Personally I wouldnât have paid an additional $80-$190 to a company of Blizzâs size & experience to âfixâ a $70-$100 game. Iâm aware of the irony given Iâve spent way more than that on LE, though they were much smaller than they are now when I spent most of that.
What are you talking about? Dodge-roll and WASD was a popular community request. Itâs on us and Iâm extremly happy EHG listened on this feedback.
Any ARPG honestly needs those these days. Dodge-roll is debatable - if you have movement abilities - but there is just no way around WASD unless EHG wants to miss out on huge portion of the potential PC gaming playerbase. Also it works suprisingly well for being âexperimentalâ and added as an afterthought. I wouldnât play LE anymore if it didnât have WASD, even in its less optimal implementation compared to PoE2. Speaking of PoE2, they added the ârunningâ ability after-the-fact as well instead of giving classes movement abilities OR reducing the map size.
If Crate wouldnât have announced like two weeks ago that they are planning to add WASD to Grim Dawn, I wouldnât give their new expansion a chance and discard it immediately.
Dodge-roll and WASD is certainly not the biggest contributor to the bug-list of LE and they are not the highest priority that needs fixing. lol there are more pressing matters.
i legit am happy for you that LE satisfies you.
my hope is that it can satisfy others more. not jabbing you but the current LE is not good enough to attract enough audience to keep it financially sustainable.
i get what you mean. even for me i dislike wow but its currently still one of the best if not arguably the best.
then again a lot of people are so invested playing the game they would find it hard to quit even if something objectively better appeared.
To be fair, what you quoted is entirely fair & true. LE wasnât designed for WASD/dodge roll & they had to expend resources to rework everything to put it in? How much? No idea but Iâd be surprised if it wasnât a decent amount of time & energy which is what Abom is complaining about. What could we have had if they hadnât done that? ![]()

But how much could have they fixed if theyâd focussed on that instead of adding WASD/dodge roll? I like WASD, but I agree with Abomb on this.
Most of the time, so if they for ever reason keep up the good work and donât fall back to deliver the least viable product I look for many hours more.
For the money part⌠I burned so much money on promising looking games that went nowhere as many others did. Why should I start counting now? This will only make me very very sad.
then again a lot of people are so invested playing the game they would find it hard to quit even if something objectively better appeared.
Thatâs a debate I had many times. My impression is that a lot of WoW players dislike playing WoW and do as little as possible because they canât stand 70% of the game. Some people even mentioned some kind of addict behaviour. They dislike what they do but do it anyway because they feel unwell if they stopped doing so.
What could we have had if they hadnât done that?
I wish they show the CT feedback they got on WASD in the forum. I bet by the time it was tested 100% of comments were disliking the whole thing and how it was implemented and what it meant for the whole game and how much changes needed to be made and how unfair the whole setup is VS M/K. Water under a bridge.
So far we can tell EHG has a slightly strange priority list when it comes to repairing their game or when they adding new stuff.
i find it insane that people watch other people play games
I guess youâre not a fan a reality TV then, thatâs even less logical.
I used to think that as well, until I watched a few streams from Aaron. Itâs not about watching him play the game, per se. Itâs more about the community experience, the comments, laughing with everyone else, etc.
Because LE is not a good game to stream.
Itâs extremely repetitive.
It has no large âgambaâ mechanics to cause sudden dopamine spikes.
It showcases no progression in end-game for dozens of hours, meaning ânothing happensâ.
That enforces streamers to actually have a personality rather then fully leaning on the content of the game and just not be obnoxious so people leave⌠which means it takes more effort to showcase any success.
Also since LE has basically no updates happening that means nothingâs new and the audience is miniscule.
Thatâs why.
ARPG players are fickle and most are playing PoE2 now, especially the streamers because they go to whatever game is going to pay the bills for them. We are now living in the instant gratification era of âTik-Tokâ and everyone tends to chase that shiny new game.
I thought season 4 of LE was fine and I enjoyed the Shattered Omens mechanic. People will return for season 5 and especially for the âLEOâ expansion.
I am not worried about any negative comments from LE haters anymore. I am just happy that EHG has financial support for continuing the game and I look forward to any and all updates in the future. The road-map for Last Epoch looks good to me and even though the releases are farther between than everyone would like, I always enjoy the new content when it drops.
I have been playing PoE2 for the last few weeks and Iâm already getting tired of it so now Iâm coming back to LE season 4 to start a new character with a focus on something I have not played before.
Long live Last Epoch ![]()
People will return for season 5 and especially for the âLEOâ expansion.
The issue is that less and less people are returning. Season 3 had more or less half the concurrent number of players that season 2 had, and season 4 had more or less half the number of players season 3 had. If Last Epoch continues like this, there will be very very few people around by the time the expansion is released.
there will be very very few people around by the time the expansion is released
A few things:
- Season 3 had a new chapter in the story so that pulled in more people just to see what was next. This was also âPre-Kraftonâ and all the drama around monetization.
- The whole negative Krafton thing and community crying for âeverything for freeâ, really soured the perception of Last Epoch, which had a negative impact on Season 4. Additionally, the length between seasons 3-4, which was surely do to the acquisition.
- As to the quote, there are a ton of potential ânew playersâ that will come with the PlayStation launch (EHG better get those upgraded MTXâs ready and deliver the goods with content for this one).
I agree the âPCâ player trend does seem to be decreasing, and honestly, I donât understand that myself. I play D4, PoE2 and Last Epoch and Last Epoch is my favorite of the three.
Letâs see how Season 5 and âLEOâ go. I predict season 5 will be similar to season 4 because there probably wonât be enough to âWowâ the player-base, but I also predict that âLEOâ will be very successful with the new players from PlayStation.
Either way, Iâll be here playing and supporting the game for as long as it exists.

I think the Krafton aquisition and bad community perception had a bigger negative impact on Season 3 than Season 4.
The announcement was in July, Season 3 launch was in August. Then again, shortly after was the PS5, LEO and paradox classes announcement. Now that fanned the flames.
Still Iâll attribute the low player numbers mostly on the lackluster marketing prior to Season 4 and the long wait. If you watched a stream on season launch, youâd see many wondering in chat if something new had come to LE and that they were not aware at all.
Honestly EHG should rethink the hype week. Start it 3 weeks before launch and stretch it over a 2 week period. Release preliminary patch notes or in parts. Do podcasts / interviews. Something like that.
