So i’ve been thinking on this topic quite a bit lately. And I really am curious, who gets hurt the most if LP4 or LP3 drops were increased?
What actually would happen if that happened, would it create some type of spontaneous combustion event inside the game? Really wondering what would happen.
In an item-hunting game, it would devalue them, and make them less special. If you don’t have special items to look for, there is no reason to play the game.
It would make the players that don’t like the D3/D4 loot system leave. Because we don’t want to fully gear up in a day. It takes the challenge away. The road to good gear is most of the fun.
And these are the players EHG is aiming for.
There is no road. That’s the problem. You’re standing in the same place, doing the same thing, and just praying for a different outcome. That’s not a road. That’s called ‘the lottery’.
The saddest thing is that for D3 it isn’t hyperbole. I literally got all my gear in a few hours and all that was left was chasing a few legendaries for minimal gains. It happened in every season, which is why I never needed more than a week to finish all season achievements and get to GR130+. Never even bothered pushing 150 cause it was just too boring.
MG already has access to LP3-4 items. CoF also has access to them, though only the regular drop ones. They just need tools to also get better boss drop rates.
They need tools to increase the chances of higher LP rolls. An item with a 0.0072% chance to roll 3LP isn’t going to be noticeably affected by a slightly higher drop rate. Much less the 9.886233e-7% chance for 4LP.
I specifically didn’t go MG, because I would like to get my items the old fashioned way. But, that means I would still like to get them… in this lifetime.
And by ‘old fashioned’, I’m not talking about prostitution.
its not about players EHG is aiming for. Its about making the game enjoyable. I think you might have missed my main point. But thanks for the response.
I think you might have missed the point what great arpgs are all about or at least what they used to be all about.
There is a reason d3/d4 lost pretty much all of their playerbase and it is not because the games look bad or play bad. It is simply not enjoyable for arpg veterans to play a arpg where you get everything you want in a couple of hours/days. If you have no journey/challange getting the best items ingame then you play a really boring arpg.
Great comment. Have you seen the prices of lp3 lp4 chase items on the bazaar lately? I guess not because otherwise you would know that no casual andy can afford one of those items even if they farm the whole cycle.
Don’t worry, most people (does not matter if they are cof or trade) will never have a lp4 exang or shakles or last steps of the living or “insert some other chase items here” and that is totally fine…
The other problem with D4 is they went way overboard with their smart loot. I really like finding items for other characters or future builds. There’s very little of that in D4.
Is this about specific target farming or in general? I play not much, am CoF 7 and already had 2 tabs of LP2 and 5 drops of LP3. Non of them useful tho as I play dumb builds my entire ARPG life.
more powerful doesn’t mean there are no more gear upgrades, just means we can progress further into corruption, which would be inclusive for much more builds than (uber ward omg look how awesome i am).
hardcore players would absolutely be hurt. because some characters may get a little bit closer to them.
I think the drop rate will increase when they have more uniques. Because when the loot tables expand, the drop rate for rare uniques go down even more, so they gotta bump up the drop rate to balance it.
Also, it’s usually unacceptable to most players when the drop rate decreases, so they gotta launch the game with really low drop rate and then slowly increases it as needed to minimize negative reactions from most players.
If top shelf gear becomes too accessible, it will hurt the players who are married to their chars and don’t do much alting. If you limit yourself to developing one character, having no further goals will kill the game for you.
Personally, I have a hard time understanding that, though. If a game is good, it will have variety. If you max out one character, you can start another. That was what made me dump thousands of hours into Grim Dawn. There were literally thousands of viable builds in the game, and many players were focused on exploring that rather than BiSing your main. Every balance patch there were things to optimize and test.
Unless EHG goes back on their silly (imo) policy of no balance patches mid-season, the top-shelf gear better stay as it is. After potentially maxing out your warlock, there would be pretty much nothing left to do in the game. Everything else is so much weaker that alting will just frustrate you once you reached the power ceiling.
Normally, the game rolls for rarity and then picks the item. A larger selection of unique items won’t change drop rates for other items. It will just mean that the chance of obtaining a certain unique item will be lower.
