What do you think about the direction and priorities the game is taking?

There are like 10 people working on PoE still, the vast majority of the dev team is working on PoE 2. It turns out the “side project” that “wouldnt affect PoE” called ruthless, turns out to be the basis for PoE 2. PoE is a dead game in creative department now, its justs a fact us PoE enjoyers have to accept until PoE 2 drops god knows when.

Well when TQ2 is as good as TQ all other hack and slash games will be side projects anyway… at least for me  .

You know they’re going to get the last 3 masteries done. I’m personally assuming they’re going to get the “final” end game thing in (can’t remember what it’s called) but I could be wrong.

And I can’t remember when they’ve said they’ll get the factions/trading in.

IMO, “1.0” this year isn’t the best idea & I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets pushed back (Judd did after all say that they’d like to get it all done this year, doesn’t mean it’ll happen).

Just because someone else has ####ed up doesn’t mean you are ready to take advantage of that misstep.

You think a reasonable % of D4 owners don’t already play PoE? Plus character re-works & the like aren’t something that “turn on a dime”. If GGG pivoted and changed a load of stuff to capitalise on the poor reception of D4 there’s a good chance they would bork things up and then the same people would be bitching at them…

It takes ~3-6 months (I think I read that they have 2 teams each working on a league?) to design & get a new league in and “working”, what makes you think it’s a sensible idea to either scrap or massively rework a league when it’s likely already finished with a month or less to go?

There was this video and in the end 1.0 was announced later this year. No maybe, no we aim for but later this year. To me this means later this year ^^.

Only reliable source is steam charts, the highest concurrent count was this past March, I assume Crucible launch, which was 209,526. Its hard to extrapolate how many unique players there are from that. What would you guess, maybe a million? D4 has sold like 9 million copies, no matter how far you want to stretch PoE player base, it doesn’t come anywhere close to that.

GGG should have had a banger league planned out well in advance, it was no secret D4 launched when it launched. The game will see record numbers like I said earlier, its just my opinion that PoE could have captivated more people with a league of buffs, we all know thats what Diablo players are used to :joy:

This is all hypothetical, shoulda coulda woulda talk obviously. GGG fumbled here, thats just my take.

That doesn’t include consoles nor is it unique players (they could have 1m people who regularly play but only ~209k on at any one time), but steam charts are the only numbers we can get. Plus, do they still have their own client or have they ditched that?

Well, no, not really. Why do you think game companies delay their games if another big release is coming out at the same time? It doesn’t make sense to put all of your best ideas into a temporary league when you know the world and their dog will be playing a different game. If the had done that and had the league start at the same time as D4’s launch (hypothetically) they’d have had fewer people playing it and everybody would have pointed to it being a “bad” league…

All fair enough points, GGG should have bought a crystal ball with all them mtx bux. Its fun to play the foresight game, lets see how it all shakes out in a weeks time. I just like this topic from a business perspective, I dont care about PoE getting more players or D4 losing most their player base. This is a wild time for the genre, a lot of people play a lot of arpg’s, which seems to be a net positive for the genre as a whole, barring any junk games that would never see a surge in player count regardless.

This is todays asshole sentiment, but I hope the launch bombs on Friday so I am not number 87000 in queue. GGG has gotten better with this, but my mom said I am number one so I need this to manifest!

Given the recent track record with bugs and releases, I’m not sure I’m too thrilled about a 1.0 release with new masteries, skills, factions and end-game(?) systems than haven’t been thoroughly tested in this beta. Seems like a recipe for disaster, that could cause this game to take a detour in Wolcen territory, as far as the ARPG community is concerned.

Yeah what you said is one of the more likely things that could happen. Time for a sneaky change of the voice line into next year might be the best thing that could happen  .

I’ll admit to having some concern about this, especially now that were at mid August. But, we’ve been surprised before, both good and not-so-good. I’ll really starting getting nervous if October hits and there’s been nothing at all in the way of info concerning how they’re planning to get to 1.0 by 12/31.

Positive side? They’ve been working massively do so some MAJOR bug fixes and tweaks along with the three new classes and they announce it in October, talk about some level of playtesting to take it to the end of the year.

Or they make a hard decision and realize they won’t make Dec and give us some news about what’s shifting so we at least know.

I suppose we’ll see/hear soon enough. I’d expect something this month for sure based on the previous few updates and cycles of stuff.

I may me alone in the camp that ok with 1.0 being pushed back. A pet peeve of mine is when developers give dates then continually fail to meet them, but Id rather have LE come out feature complete opposed to a polished turd.

I’m actually fine with it as well. I think, if the game isn’t non-game-breaking ready – both game play and performance – then postponing would be the way to go. Wolcen released with all the hype in the world, fell flat on its face, and never recovered past a the die-hard fans. I’ve been here since way early release, and would hate to see this game go straight-to-video.

Alpha enjoyer here as well, along with backing Wolcen when it went by another name, I dont remember what that was. But yea, Wolcen had sooooo much hype, and launched literally unplayable for days, followed by just not wanting to play because either nothing worked or was completely broken.

At least with LE, we know it wont release in that state, the foundation up to where we are is too solid to crumble to Wolcen levels. I downloaded and played Wolcen for a bit last week, its leaps and bounds better, but still a certain shade of shit. I guess somebody bought the game from the initial devs and are STILL DO THIS DAY fixing bugs. They had the gull to even release it on consoles recently lmao, guess they needed that ROI.

Yeah, I’m not comparing game states, but I know how hard it is for a game to recover when the initial impression is bad. Especially with all the offerings on the table lately. Hell, who knows if D4 can recover, and that’s a huge AAA franchise with millions of millions of investor dollars backing it.

Yeah, I don’t have any problems with them doing it. I would have a slight peeve though if they don’t announce it by October. Because they really should know by then.

I was a big, BIG hopeful for Wolcen. To this day still the best combat in any aRPG I’ve ever played. I stepped away about six months ago though because while they are making progress and have made some really good improvements, there’s just too much missing that I finally said, after about 1600 hours, it’s time to go.

This will sound fucked up, but I kinda want D4 to fail, and I am one of the people who spent $90 to play early. The game feels like a cash grab, using the Diablo name solely to get out money. There is no love put into the game, and it plays that way. Even if it does “fail,” its sold 10 million copies so Bobby has already bought a new yacht.

Agreed. Its one thing to delay the game, its another to wait until November to announce the plan. EHG has a pretty good track record with communication, so I dont assume the worst unlike other devs.

Holy shit you played for 1600 hours? You have got to be among the 1% in time played, but…how? For almost ever the passive radial tree didnt work, inventory would get deleted randomly etc etc, I commend you for actually caring enough to spend that amount of time with it. We were sold on some pretty impressive ideas, thats for sure. The game does feel good and the graphics are good, but thats as far as I can go with the compliments.

The saddest thing about Wolcen, for me at least, is how good the game – prior to their last pre-release revamp – was. I had enjoyed the ever-loving shit out of a crit turret build, a ball lightning build and some rogue build I can’t remember. I put a few 100 hours into that late-alpha/early-beta version that only had one campaign zone and some random dungeons to run to lvl 20-25ish I believe.

There was a lot I really, really liked about it. And I play very few games because most games give me motion sickness. It never did, most aRPGs don’t but almost everything else does. And I was on the discord for forever, and got to interact a lot with the Devs about requests and stuff and … meh, it’s all water under the bridge. They really had horrible project management. But the actual designers and stuff, I mean that game is friggin gorgeous and, as mentioned combat was amazing (when it worked. :smirk:)

Ever since my stroke I am the same holy shit, so many games that used to not bother my eyes at all now cause severe motion sickness, to the point I need to take meds my neurologist gave me, not even meclizine worked…needless to say I avoid them now.

I mean I am not the games biggest fan, but that cool you were so passionate about it and were a useful and helpful member of the community. As long as you enjoyed your time with it, its all good!
