I agree.
I understand partnering with creators, especially with small and mid sized followings, in order to spread awareness and generate excitement. However, this could have been handled better in one or both of the following areas.
It was announced back in November that we would have a Warlock reveal today, and we did - kind of. But we also found out today that there’s going to be a weeklong series of daily youtube videos from a content creator, who will drip feed us the information. If I’m misunderstanding this, let me know, but it feels like a let down, especially after how exciting the faction reveal was.
It’s fine to give exclusivity to creators for the announcement – but this should be followed up within hours, not days, by the official forums and other official channels to provide more context, and to communicate with players who would prefer not to engage with the chosen creator(s).
I would like to note that today’s announcement is disappointing to me because I am excited for the future of this game, can’t wait to play on 1.0, and want the game to do well so that we have even more content in the future.
At least from EHG’s side that is not true. Steve clarified that on Reddit.
Not sure what is between Icy Veins and Aaron though.
Also there is no real toxicity here in the forums, just harsh critique.
On Reddit there are a few insults and stuff that could be seen as toxic, but even there for the most part its very cosntructive critisim.
Reddit is a hellhole I want no part of, but I don’t see any pettiness or toxicity here. It is not petty or toxic to call it out when cheap self promotion tactics result in poor quality content and delivery, and everyone here is doing that as civilly as being angry about something allows.
Somebody from Icy Veins said on Discord that it was Aaron’s idea to do that, so, your guess is wrong.
Welcome to the Future. If Last Epoch wants to stay relevant they’re gonna have to “play ball” with the Thought Leaders of Tomorrow, IcyVein dot com and AaronRPG. There’s no fighting this. Learn to love it.
The dragged out reveal is just silly. I also don’t see how using just these two sources gains Last Epoch much in the way of coverage.
I’d never heard of Icy Veins until the reveal was announced and whilst I appreciate newer streamers need the views, better choices could have been made.
Bottom line, this should have been much more widely distributed and all at once. In my opinion, this really could have been done better.
I’m honestly not opposed to either splitting the reveal over multiple days, or Aaron getting an exclusive first look kind of video. What I am opposed to is releasing this kind of information in video form only.
There’s so many ways to make a video companion, whether that be analysis, commentary, gameplay footage, etc., but this reveal feels a bit backwards. Information is stuffed into a video, with an article as a TL:DR and light commentary, when it would probably work a lot better the other way around.
We’re less than a month out. I’m sort of baffled why the NDA for someone who has been invited to share’ is still in place for this particular situation. I’d like to think we’re not going to get a Wolcen and in the last month there’s going to be some major switcheroo that completely changes the game, but even trailers for movies reveal plot points, key characters, hints at scenes (and sometimes stupidly ‘spoilers.’)
But I’m terrible at marketing so I honestly have no clue why this was so locked down and shallow of substance for something that has been 7 years in the making and is now one month from release.
Well the LE team of Maxroll has a long way ahead to catch up to the quality standards of the other sections . It’s a shame and awefull to watch what we got there.
I disagree with most of the OP’s point here, but not all of it. don’t think content-creator driven reveals are inherently bad (they’ve worked quite well for the previews for Magic for years, and Marvel SNAP manages to make their season reveals into marquee viewing events), and it’s very normal for the person to at least have their main content platforms linked and promoted in the process. The thing I agree on is that Action RPG was maybe the worst possible choice for this. He’s got a bad style, low videography skills, no particular streaming ability, and is not capable of presenting things in an interesting or informative manner. It felt low-effort and cheap despite the amount of background effort put into things like the Icy Veins integration and advertising for very very little payoff.
In the future, please vet and choose better content creators for this sort of thing and actually have some minimum quality standards. I’m already leery about the 1.0 update because of how many pieces of new content and changes are launching all at once along with a huge influx of new players, it seems like a recipe for failure and a bad first impression given just how inconsistent past LE content launches have been in terms of quality control.
I don’t dig the community behavior around this. I thought it was a Reddit immaturity and bipolarity problem, but seeing the same strictness and harshness around here surprised me.
The hipocrisy towards this subject… Many say they want LE to grow and become a hit, yet bitching about a market plan.
Aaron is a strong supporter for the game, we can discuss some problems about the way he handled the opportunity to release the content, but all in all it’s not a huge problem and it’s an opportunity for both sides improve things with proper feedback.
I don’t dig either all this expectation about something that is only a preview for things that are yet to come. We have a whole month to release and people behaving like it’s the end of the world.
And just my final cents…
How can you evaluate that ?
This is just you being extremely selfish. EHG has all rights to try different things to increase game popularity.
Just to quote another take on the subject in reddit, “swallow your pride and help EGH get the exposure they need to make this game a massive success.”
As someone who has lived with a partner who is bipolar for 26 years, you might want to check what it actually means/entails before throwing it out as a random weak slur.
Well, even if the mastery was revealed all in one shot, what changed after all?
You can’t play it, since it will be released at launch.
You don’t like how AAron ARPG is doing it, ok.
I think this is a two parts helping each other, nothing wrong for me. It’s business after all.
If you’re using it as a slur (which you were), then either a)you don’t work in the health area, b)you probably shouldn’t based on your displayed lack of empathy/compassion.
i would like to say how much it’s disapointing but i would be ban from LE, the FBI would be knocking at my door in a minute with CIA even if i’m French.
Seriously Youtube was low, influencer was even lower but i should admin LE find a way to dig even futher. /claps
After twitch drop dgsht we got this, seriously we paid our game years ago to let you be able to finish it. And you still throw sh*t marketing technics to us
