Video turning off while playing

As the title says, my video completely shuts off while playing Last Epoch. The first time it happened was on the courtyard in the ruined era.

Also, the game audio is locked on loop when that happens, while other sources of audio are working (for example Discord). The only way to “fix” this is restarting the computer

Hey there… Welcome to the forums.

Without your player.log to confirm anything specifically, I am pretty confident that your problem is related to your settings.

LE is currently unoptimised and in beta so it has performance related issues that present as freezing, crashing and big lag spikes. It is important that each player finds a stable configuration that suits the state of the game AND their specific hardware combination.

Because of this lack of optimisation, LE will unlikely perform as some may have expected - especially on older hardware or with settings that dont leave headroom. As the game nears completion and the devs address performance issues (as they are doing in the upcoming 0.9 version), then stability should improve. Obviously trying settings higher than hardware is capable of will always be an issue but I expect the game to perform better as patches drop.

Your hardware, specifically the RX580 is unlikely to play stably at the settings you are trying to use.

Specifically:

  1. High quality settings are not recommended on Rx580 and similar level GPUs. At most, Medium quality is the max you should be using to have stable gameplay - and that depends on the combinations of other settings too. i.e. other settings could need lower quality.

  2. Using Vertical Sync instead of Framerate limiting can sometimes cause LE to be unstable. It is recommended that you use the in-game framerate limit instead. Theoretically they should provide the same limit (i.e. limiting the game to the screens capabilities) but it doesnt always work. I would recommend not using vsync and enabling framerate limiting - setting this to 60fps (*matches 60hz of the monitor) but be warned, you may have to lower this depending on other setting combinations to ensure decent average performance.

  3. Special features - you may have to lower the special features like Reflections, shadows etc. Some of these can make a big difference to stability when combined with quality, resolution & framerate.

Essentially what you need to do is play quality, resolution and framerate against one another to find a stable config that you are happy with. I find that aiming for GPU usage of around 60% while your char is standing in town doing nothing is a good target that leaves headroom for your GPU when the game gets into busy situations.

If none of these suggestions make any difference, then I would really need to see your player.log to see what could be happening. Note the player.logs cycle so its important to save a log from when you have the crash/freeze/blank screen.
