Upon launcher the game via Steam, my system soft locks and my monitors start flickering and other graphical oddities occur. My only solution is to manually reboot the system, or try to navigate the windows GUI through all the flicking to get a reboot.
Not seeing this issue with any other games that I’m playing currently (Path of Exile, Destiny 2, Wolcen, Slay the Spire, Cyberpunk, Darkest Dungeons, etc).
System specs:
MSI GS75 Stealth 9SF gaming laptop
CPU: Intel i709750H
GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 MaxQ
RAM: 32GB RAM
DISK: 1TB Samsung EVO plus (steam folder/all steam games installed here)
Monitors:
#1 Asus VG279Q 27" 1080p, via DisplayPort, 144Hz in Nvida control panel (main monitor)
#2 Asus VG279Q 27" 1080p, via HDMI, 144Hz as well (secondary monitor)
#3 laptop monitor - not used at all
Funny enough, if I unplug both monitors, the game runs fine off the laptop monitor without issue.
Troubleshooting steps:
Installed latest Nvidia drivers (v 466.47 - 05/18/2021).
Removed all Nvidia drivers and reinstalled drivers.
Verified game file integrity in steam.
Uninstalled and reinstalled game #1.
Removed monitors and launched using just laptop monitor (success).
Uninstalled game, waited for latest LE upgrade to release then reinstalled.
Checked support forum for similar issues, but other issues don’t seem to apply.
Since my last post, this issue started occurring in other games I play. So I went back through all my troubleshooting steps and uninstalled everything NVIDIA, removed all remnant NVIDIA folders and files i could find. Rebooted and did a fresh install of my video drivers and now everything is working correctly. So I think I fixed my own issue and root cause appears to have been my video drivers.
Was just typing up some things to try… Glad you managed to find the solution…
One suggestion I would make after looking at your settings/config - I would suggest you dial-back your in-game settings for stability & performance - LE currently has performance related instability that are directly related to the in-game settings… Ultra causes problems and unneccessary load on your GPU for not that much visual difference to lower settings. Even players using 3000 series desktop GPUs have found that going back to High level settings is much more stable and still looks good… Also, and probably more important… Enable framerate limiting (not vsync)… this seems to make the most difference to overall stability and performance … Once EHG gets to the optimisation part of the the game then obviously we can all up the eye-candy…
One last thing which is probably part of what you fixed by redoing the drivers - at the end of the Dxdiag file is a diagnostic section containing system errors… There are a whole bunch of LiveKernelEvent 117 on nvlddmkm.sys errors - this is part of the Nvidia drivers and can cause machines to BSOD and crash… .This is probably what you have fixed…
Thanks for the tips, I’ve dialed my settings back to high and limited my fps to 60 fps as suggested.
I haven’t had issues like these in so long I had forgotten all about Dxdiag and the info it contains until I read the support note to include it. I was going to dive into that log after work if things didn’t work out. But will keep it in mind for future issues.
