That’s fair, I guess. It probably depends on the player, though, judging by the high number of requests for offline modes in most games (including PoE and D4).
Single-player focus with P2P multiplayer gives the best of both worlds!
Oh well, we’re already in a live-service model. I’ll just keep playing in True Offline with the occasional online character if my friends ever want to join.
Seriously dude? You have no way to determine the number of offline requests in PoE and D4 except anecdotally. And you are the first person to give someone else shit when they say, “most people”.
So, it’s fair that I like something else, but I’m still wrong because “high numbers” in “most” games say I’m wrong. Yeah, I’m done.
Dude, chill. When did I say “most people”? I just said that some people like playing alone (and want offline mode) in most games. I never said that most people want that.
Again, chill. I never said you were wrong, not did I use “high numbers” in any way to signify a majority. Because I have no idea (as you pointed out) how many players lean one way or another. I simply used high number of people because if it was just a few it would be negligible, that’s all.
Right, I believe that also. It seems like once sales expectations aren’t met or begin to drop off, many companies start putting in these features just to try to keep the money coming it.
I suspect that Tencent’s investment in the project had some kind of influence over the overall vision for the game going forward also.
EHG started as indie and small, but are they still?
10cent has a fair amount of investment in them, and from account to the dev themselves, they have grown significantly from the 3 dozen or so employees since launch….
Let’s say the team is small, does it make sense to have a live service model competing with bigger devs?
Like it or not. People are going to compare LE cycle/season to the competitions of LE.
People like to use PoE, say how it started small & baren, but PoE has the luxury of being the only live service arpg for at least 1/2 a decade.
Are there small indies ( at least started small) that become successful, of course ggg which I already explain, and extreme digit ( warframe) but they are either pioneers or have something unique.
Which come to the next question. What is last epoch selling point, sale pitch. PoE sale pitch it is the hardcore arpg for true arpg gamers and any other arpg are watered down ( along the line). You can agree or disagree but that the sale pitch.
While Diablo 4’s pitch is that it’s a more accessible RPG for a wider audience,.The meme is that average players are dads with more than 4 kids and 2 jobs. It’s a very compelling selling point for busy people who want a chill game to play.
What about LE? Somewhere between the 2? Consider poe2 is trying to make it more accessible, and Diablo 4 has been adding more depth and choices, this alone is losing appeal over time.
The classic cope response ”POE had 10 years”
LE has generated just as much if not more attention the POE in its short time but they have fumbled it hard with lack of real end game content and any real reason to play.
The “new content” being relatively hard undead mobs, loot goblins lizards & shrines. If it were a new season I’d agree with you, but it’s not.
Multiplayer was & 1.0 was cycle 1.
So do I, but if your friends’ builds are significantly more capable than yours (I still remember the league where I started a totem build & my friend started a WOrb character which was the new skill
Tencent has a small investment in EHG, it’s less than 25% is all we know. And no, at launch (1.0, not when the first versions came out after the kickstarter or alpha/beta) they had around/less than 100. Not as small anymore, certainly.
PoE has over 10 years is true, and makes a big difference. I played PoE in Beta, & I managed to stomach only one sitting…Came back years later & it was vastly improved.
PoE has the luxury of not contested for at least 1/2 a decades. Something LE does not have the luxury of.
But, like it or not, many gamers are not waiting years before a game is good. Wake them up when the game is finally good.
It is easy to say what is wrong in hindsight, but if you ask me, I think LE will be better off if they focus on less class/subclasses & not having 50 branches for every skill. Many of the Effort could be used to for gameplay contents.
When you have a small team, you have to focus effort on best bang for bucks.
For me, 120 skills with many branches is content. So many combinations to experiment with.
Release of early access* my bad
Not all “contents” are same. I can have a char creator with 2000 hair color and call it content as well, so many colors to choose from.
Yes, but skills are not simply “blue ray of death” vs “red ray of death”. For someone like me, a great variety of classes/skills makes the existing other content like campaign, dungeons, and monoliths of fate more replayable.
Someone who likes to stick with one character per league, maybe even playing the same build over and over in each new league, has a vastly different perception. They would like more game modes, events, etc.
As for hair colours - There were forum users harshly criticising the lack of character customization options. EHG stated multiple times that they would like to offer that, but they didn’t have the time and resources to develop this. Their main focus is gameplay content, not cosmetic content.
Ive been enjoying playing again lately, but the gearing still feels terrible. A lot of RNG with COF and you go a long time between finding a small upgrade and this is on a both of my characters that are 88 and 97 so no where near maxed out.
anyone else getting a lot of disconnects tonight? us west
Yes. 4 time now, and im trying to do the storyline echo but apparently not. Its them im sure of it. Im watching youtube while playing and YT is not dropping or anything. Neither is b.net app, everything else is smooth. LE not so much…
I think you are getting my point about the hair.
My point being, put effort where is most value. Extra activitives benefit everyone which is where most of the effort should be.
Maybe a simple analogy. You have a dirt bike park. You have 20 different variety of dirt bike, + even more customisation, but only 3 small tracks…
This is LE at the moment. They spend to much time on the bikes, & not enough on the tracks.
I very much agree with this.
I would rather EHG not add a single new skill, class or unique for the next year or two and rather focus on AAA polish, animations, VFX, combat, itemization, and quality endgame.
I couldn’t agree more.
I hope they read this ^
The problem is that the old veterans who has 2000 hours in Last Epoch do not agree, based on the replies I have seen, and they would rather play clunky game but with new uniques all the time.
But anyway, the game is far from dead but has long way to go. I wish ARPG(s) could have numbers like for instance Warframe (I know there are more popular games but I wanted to be realistic)
