I play CoF, I can’t help but feel personally attacked. If he likes trading thats fine but all of these people complaining, they can’t get there BiS within a week or two of playing will leave to go play other stuff soon anyway.
The Developers will always have to dance a fine line between those who want the best items, immediately, and giving players enough stuff to work towards so they play the season for more than 8 hours.
Back in pre-release the drop rates were much lower and the CoF and Merchants guild didn’t exist and I still felt the rate of loot aquisition was pretty good. Due to crafting I felt finding upgrades easier than both POE and D4 so I see no problem and consider buying gear off the auction house as extremely easy to get gear already.
I think the problem here is now that it’s feasible to just buy any unique with LP everyone thinks anything less than a 3LP BIS is worthless when that is hardly the case.

Man, i dunno about you but ive been playing non meta builds from beta.
Its great because like you say, they arent meta but people still list items for it.
For example, i wanted to use my VC + ES build from beta using dreamthorn.
3LP dreamthorn on the market is only 100k gold.
This VK is doing 200 corrupt and with more investments i can see it doing 300+.
While the meta builds can pull off crazy corruptions, other builds are definitely viable.
Im having a lot of fun making non meta builds work funded by me selling meta related items on the market. Its awesome

They need to drop the either-or requirement and just let everyone have access to both CoF and MG simultaneously. With some fine tuning, of course.
This seems like such a clear choice that would solve both factions’ problems. Trade needs more people participating in it to hit peak potential. CoF drops are already restricted to account/character. It’s not like anyone is currently experiencing a windfall of wealth with either, so I can’t fathom what the downside would be.
Besides, it’s going to be impossible for EHG to balance the two in the long run. Either MG becomes the superior option and CoF becomes completely obsolete; or CoF becomes the better choice and no one participates in trade. Hell, they can’t even be perfectly balanced because CoF is arguably the path of least resistance. Who would want to trade if you get the best drops just playing the game? (imagine that!)
There’s also nothing to stop someone from being SSF if they don’t want to participate in trade. And vice versa. Maybe you get a CoF drop you wish you could sell, but that’s just RNG in a game full of RNG. So, again, I just don’t see the benefit of having them separated. Maybe I’m missing something, though.
Not only this but they also need to do my dishes after dinner so I can play longer. I find it ridiculously that EHG will not help out with my household responsibilities.
What am I even paying them for?
Youre missing that the purpose of COF is to make SSF viable in a game with 15 different classes.
Theres only 2 gear alots if a remember correctly that have smart loot to a point. Relics i know is one i think off hand is other dont remember on that one
I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. What changes for SSF players by allowing the option for both CoF and MG? Who is going to force you to use trade if you don’t want to?
If that were the case, and cof would stay as is, then items on the market would be worthless.
If cof was nerfed, ssf would be pain.
Maybe, but I can promise you as long as CoF and MG remain separate systems, neither one will ever be optimal.
I’ve explained this before, but I’ll do so again:
With MG, it’s simple economics. Fewer people trading means a less competitive economy. Less loot all around. Fewer niche choices for off-meta builds. Higher prices. If CoF is the better choice, or even a balanced choice, MG loses because of suboptimal participation.
If CoF is the worse choice, and fewer people take this path, it begins to skew toward obsolescence. This means devs will respond by balancing it so that it’s a more attractive option. More people join CoF. CoF wins. MG loses.
The problem is that SSF was never about additional rewards. SSF has always been its own reward. A philosophical option guided by player choice and challenge. Not gatekeeping or balance.
Combine CoF and MG, the result is unfettered player choice and trade participation. CoF gear is still restricted to SSF and can’t be sold. Trade serves to supplement gaps in SSF (if you so choose). Maybe you need to do a little balancing, yes, but you’ve still ultimately solved the trade problem while still giving SSF players an incentive they’ve never had before.
