This is not something you do 2 weeks into the cycle. Anyone who has been playing with family share is now forced to restart or buy the game again.
Now before all you defenders jump on me and say “Just buy the game!” let me explain.
I did buy the game - right when it became available in early access many years ago. I played for a long time on and off on my Main steam account over the years. Along the way I made another steam account so my wife and I could play our different steam games at the same time.
As time went buy, I just stayed logged into my alternate steam account and played new games I had bought with that and older games (LE) that I played with family share.
I don’t mind starting over since I’m an altoholic and enjoy powering up new characters, but it is annoying to lose all the items and progress I’ve made on my secondary account.
There should have been some plan to migrate characters over or a notification before 1.0 launch to be sure to use your main account because we wont allow family share.
Making this change after the cycle has begun is a hasty knee jerk response to try and curb RMT (it’s still going on) and it is only hurting your legit players.
No matter what they did (or didn’t) do they were going to upset people.
So at that point it’s a simple question: Which population is larger, online players in the Merchants guild or people using family share to play? I don’t have that data, you don’t have that data, only EHG has the numbers and I trust they used it to make the best choice.
This is a lot of vitriol for something so minor. It really isn’t EHG’s fault you decided you don’t want to use your main account. The game is still available to you if you log into another account. I’ve never heard of someone not using their main account, and existing only through their alt accounts via family sharing.
EHG is doing something they feel is to the benefit of both themselves and other players. You wanting to split up your wife and your accounts isn’t their fault. It’s unfortunate it happened to you, I’d hate to lose my progress, but this isn’t on them.
Also. For why do you buy all of both you and your wife’s games on the same account, knowing you couldn’t be playing at the same time on the same account? What possessed you?
guys, Is there any way to transfer an offline character with the current family sharing problem?
I logged into my main account (with the purchased game), disabled cloud saves. I moved the folder with the saves. But when I log in to the game - I still get an empty character list. The folder with safes is cleared
Find me where in the terms of service it tells you Family Sharing will never go away? And there is no rule that Steam enforces that all games must be ready and able for family sharing. Breach of what contract, bud.
Fact of the matter is, the game is not unavailable to you because family sharing is off. It’s available to the account it was purchased on, which is what matters. You not liking something doesn’t make it illegal, and thank the gods that isn’t the case, y’all’d make a mess.
Show me point in Steam’s Terms of Use anything about the developer’s ability to change the family sharing status. There is nothing there. So as I assume, if the game has this option available since the beta, it should not change it due to some of their problems. Not my fault that they have problems with everything - from managing servers to problems with RMT. I’ll repeat it again - I bought a game with a family sharing option, now I don’t have it, just like the money I spent on this game.
And then where in the Steam’s ToS does it say that a game that has family sharing must always keep family sharing available? It doesn’t. Your assumption doesn’t give fault.
Suppose you buy a new car and calmly drive it home. After some time, however, you get an unpleasant surprise - the car manufacturer installed a chip in the engine that can immobilize your car and decided to activate the chip. You look at the contract and there’s a surprise! There is no mention of this chip, and there is no mention in the contract that he can use it at any time! Are you delighted with this?
Nothing vitriolic about my OP whatsoever. Perhaps look up the word. I simply stated a problem I have - nothing cruel or bitter about my post.
No, but the way this change was handled was done very poorly. I own my decision, I just would have like to have been notified before cycle start or for them to have a plan to migrate characters.
I love the game, and I’ll continue to play. I may even buy the game again so I have it on both accounts, but for now I just wanted to voice my opinion regarding the poor way this was handled and the consequences it has had on many users including myself.
This is a crazy comparison. Except in regards tot he game, the game was not strictly taken away from you. The game exists and is playable to the person who bought it, again, what matters.
I can agree that there should be some prior notice that they are shutting down a part of their service, yes. Regardless of what benefit to the playerbase and themselves it provides, they should have thrown something at us for warning.
ok, maybe I’ll put it another way. you buy a new car, the contract is yours. however, the car has a camera installed in the driver’s position that recognizes faces. Your wife also uses this car, but the manufacturer didn’t like it, so when the car recognizes her, she can’t drive it. Let him buy her own car. Is that smart?
By not warning us, they let to waste a lot of my time by playing this game on family shared copy of the game. That’s why I am so angry at them. As you can see on the badge under my name, I have this game since early beta, but after release 1.0 they started to go in wrong way in many things.
Sure, I guess. Except it would be illegal to put a camera in a car to spy on it’s occupants. It’s not illegal to disallow a service that doesn’t actually remove rights to play a game on an account that bought it. Making random, strange analogies with no basis in reality doesn’t create good arguments for your case. It’s entertaining, but.
Why do people keep making the same nonsense car analogy (why does it always have to be a car involved?) comparing it to an online game thinking they’re being clever and making good points?
Now there’s a wife involved also. omg
