Something seems very very wrong about odds/drops

across three characters i’ve killed Formosus maybe 60-70 times as high as 200+ corruption and:

  • not a single frostbite shackle
  • two drops of last steps
  • enough of those stupid eyeball amulets to fund multiple stash tabs

i’ve had a prophecy that will never proc because it needs t3 alfrig and after 10+ tedious arena sessions in a row it has yet to summon him

but i have 3 exsangs, one even had 2lp and i slammed more health into it

mortality’s grasp finally dropped for me last night and it came with 2lp, the first drop

help me make sense of this

May have to do with shackles being a lot more rare then the others. Boss drops are not weighted equally. Some items drop easier and others almost never drop.

It is why, I and others, supported the idea of deterministic loot. And the nemesis system will make it a lot easier to get a baseline 2lp item with the egg trade in system.

If you get a red ring, save it. You may be able to turn it into a 1lp item lol

Some rares are ultra-rare and will take longer to drop. This is harder when it’s boss drops.
1.1 should make it easier with CoF changes.

Are you actually doing t3 arena or going for endless one? Cause bosses only spawn on the lower tier arenas and, as far as I know, they are guaranteed to show up at the end.

This is actually one thing that bothers me about Prophecies or just farming Arena boss uniques, it’s pure RNG as to which of the 3 bosses show up and then you have to hope they drop what you’re looking for with the uniques. I’ve done numerous Arenas hoping for a specific boss and not have him/her be the one it gives me.

Given the drops of Last Steps that you’ve seen, I’m not sure that you have.

Last Steps & the amulet are common drops & have a 50% chance to drop one or the other. If you’d have done 60-70 runs, I’d have expected you to see somewhere around 30-40 of the boots.

Frostbite Shackles are rare, I want to say it’s something like 7% but that was a while ago & things could have changed.

Random means random. The end.

It doesn’t know or care what dropped last time, what you want to drop, or what you already have. There is no pity mechanism and no streak protection. It is random every time.

i’m completely serious about the last steps, it has only dropped twice, something is legitimately wrong if it’s supposed to drop 50% of the time, i don’t believe that number at all, it is that stupid amulet every other time

i’m just gonna stop playing LE, maybe i’ll come back after the patch has been out for a while but i’m done with this if people are just going to call me a liar after i’ve wasted so much of my time

The probability of a 50% chance drop not happening more than once or twice in 60-70 attempts is phenomenally low (though stats wasn’t ever my thing so I can’t work out what the probablity is).

If someone said that a 1 in a billion thing happened to them, would you believe them? Probably not because it’s very unlikely, but not impossible.

If what you say happened, then you were majorly fucked over by RNG. Which does happen, especially in a game without any pity mechanics.

just went and double-checked the inventories of each of my 4 characters and every single stash tab…i found one more pair with bad rolls, so that makes a total of THREE out of the dozens of times i have done that tedious boss fight

whatever, i’m out, onto a different game

Which is still deep into the weeds of being fucked over by RNG. I’d have expected around 10 times that amount.

Not happening at all:
60 times: 0.0000000000000000008%
70 times: 0.0000000000000000000008%
Happening only once would be double that, happening twice would be double again.

Though that will change a lot if the chance is instead that when it drops, it’s 50% for one or the other. But if it’s possible to have both drops at the same time, and boots have an independent chance, values above apply.

So somewhere around 10^-19 or so. that’s down in the atto, but not quite at the planck length (10^-34).

No, it’s a 100% chance for one or the other to drop, plus a small % for the rarer ones to drop as well (depending on normal/empowered, obvs). You shouldn’t be able to get boots & amulet, but you should be able to get boots/amulet & axe if you’re in empowered (from memory).

Except that each and every time you do it it’s a 50% chance, so if you did it 1,000 times you still only have a 50% chance of getting the item on try # 1,001.

Yes, but the chance of it not happening X times in Y attempts is not 50%. But, as you say, the chance of it happening on the Y+1 attempt is still 50%.

One doesn’t exclude the other. Yes, each singular try is always 50%, but you do get cumulative probability as well. Much like flipping a coin. The odds of flipping a coin 60 times and always having it turn up heads is 50% for every single try, but overall the odds of 60 times heads in a roll is the number I used.

Which means that the odds of doing the boss 60 times and only getting 2-3 boots are pretty much 6e-18. Which is magnitudes past the believable odds threshold.
Basically, if everyone on earth was killing the boss once per minute, it would take 20000 years until that happened to someone, on average.

Agreed. We should always have a choice of which boss to face in the 1-4 tier arenas. Honestly don’t see this small change giving us too much control over the RNG.

Rare drop:frostbite shackles

Common drop:last steps and eyeballs

It makes sense for frostbite shackles to almost never show up as it is rare, but it is VERY odd for you to get tons of the amulets and only two last steps as they should both have the same drop odds. Especially over 60 attempts where the results should conform to something close to the mean.

You SHOULD have tons of both the eyeballs and the last steps by statistical chance.

I understand how difficult it is to drop. I took out about 50 Emperor of Corpses because I needed a Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros and it didn’t drop.

You might have bugged the fight. Bosses like the Frost Lich can be killed without choosing a blessing. In most fights that simply pops up, but in BFD you have to talk to the imprisoned guy to get it. The consequences of not talking to him are that timeline stability doesn’t reset, so you can fight the Frost Lich again (and again ad nauseam), BUT he doesn’t drop his boss loot.

Besides that, next time you’re looking for something in your stash, the search bar on the top right is awesome. It searches the entire stash and shows which tabs have what you’re looking for.
