the screen freezes but I can hear myself moving around and the music still playing. I just bought the game last night and have not been able to find a way to fix it yet. It does not matter what zone i am in. It happens usually within 15 to 20 seconds. I am including my dxdiag/player/graph
my graphics card is updated
it happens on standalone and steam
overlays are disabled
Same has been happening to me for the past couple weeks. Started after a patch I think, since I played through the campaign without any crashes or freezes. At the moment i’m unable to progress the monoliths since I get a rollback every 3 or 4 monos. The screen freezes but the game still reads inputs and sound is playing. If I port out of a mono when the screen is frozen it crashes in the loading screen, while it is still displaying whatever it was when it froze. Tried switching sound outputs since that was mentioned in one thread, but it does nothing. Changing graphics settings to very low turns these freezes to straight crashes.
my temporary solution is to literally reinstall my graphics card driver every time i want to play. Its a seriously annoying hassle and i really hope they find a fix soon.
I ran DDU, you can get it from here. Reinstalled nvidia driver, and so far I’ve been able to play without freezing or crashing. I tried running the game on lower graphics settings but that still crashes the game. So now I’m on very high settings and framerate capped at 60 fps. Steam overlay turned off, if that makes a difference. Make sure you run DDU in safe mode.
LE in its current beta state has performance and stability issues which seem for most to be related to graphics settings.
TLDR; Frame rate limiting is very important as LE can force a GPU to 100% usage without it. Higher resolutions exacerbate any of LE problems. Any in-game settings above Medium have been found to be very unstable even on high end system.
The following suggestions seem to work for the majority of people:
Temporarily set your config to 1080p, 60fps frame limited, every setting to very low or disabled. Test for stability.
If its stable then increase the resolution - nothing else - to the level you want to play at.
If its still stable, then increase the fps rate limit - obviously up to your monitors capability or less if you find that acceptable. Do not remove the limit - LE is much stabler with a limit in place.
If its still stable, then increase the in-game graphic settings one step at a time testing as you go… I would NOT recommend going above medium. Obviously this is directly related to your resolution and fps limits, even people on 30 series GPUs have found that anything higher than Medium is not worth it at 1440p+ resolutions… Depending on your resolution, you may have to leave more than a few settings off or on low.
Things like antialising and textures etc can also be toggled to see - some find this either improves stability or fps but its very system specific.
I am providing additional help related to this issue that others have found helps them… and my message was not only for you but for the other person on this thread.
Unfortunately, while I was taught to read, you obviously missed the lesson on common courtesy and etiquette.
