I am a little concerned about the fact that it does not shut down when told to do so. I am still fairly new to the game, and have played just one character, to level 23. I can’t say for sure how many actual hours I have in, since, as the subject states, AFTER I shut the game down, it silently turns itself back on in the evening and runs in the background. So as it is now, Steam thinks I have 79.6 HOURS played.
I have tested this theory on a few occasions. After playing, hit Exit to Desktop within the game. Confirm in Steam that the game has stopped (Play button is enabled). Come back a few hours later, to check, and it is now running in the background, and the Play button in Steam now says “Stop”. Clicking the Stop button has no effect, and the game cannot be CTRL/ALT/DEL’ed.
WHY does the game start itself back up and run in the background, after I’ve shut it down? Why when I open Steam to attempt to “Stop” the game, does it outright refuse to shut down? Why am I forced to reboot my whole system so that I can take back control of my machine?
This is extremely suspicious to me, especially since there have been reports of games doing this very thing in order to STEAL our resources for Crypto mining. Not very encouraging. Early access or not.
I only have a couple hundred hours in, but I’ve seen this happen once on my machine with Steam. I wasn’t sure what was going on so I just rebooted my PC. Thanks for filing a bug comment though. I wouldn’t have thought about it again had you not mentioned it here.
Please post a Bug Report. EHG team responds to them, it may take them a week to reply, and then they provide follow-up when it is documented in the forums. The steam issue was mentioned somewhere before, not sure if it was discord or Reddit.
Update: I see your bug report now it was at the bottom of the selected list. Thank you!
AHA!! I finally found the problem!! It was not Last Epoch. It was not Steam. It was, in fact, Razor Cortex! It was the only thing I had changed recently on my system (bought a new mouse) and as soon as I turned Cortex off, The Play button became active again!
