Question about Cycles

I understand the cycle system will work the way seasons work in D4, meaning you have to start a brand new character every time, and all your progress will be void at the end of a season? What about the stash? Can you use old loot in a new season?

You progress does not get deleted, all your cycle characters get moved to legacy.

You are also not forced to play cycle, you cna keep playing legacy.

The first few cycles will have no content difference between legacy and cycle.

Pretty sure same system as poe or diablo, and no, why would yo ube able to access legacy loot stash on cycle league. I do wonder if the stash tabs we buy/unlock will reset each cycle.

Thanks for the replies. This is where my adventure with Last Epoch comes to an end. I might be in a minority, but the very concept of deleting player progress in a loot based game is abhorrent to me.

which means I can’t use them in the entirety of new content. To me, it means they don’t exist.
I know this system is prevalent but personally I can’t understand how people can grind their ass off for gear they know will be deleted for new content in a couple of weeks/months.

The first few cycles will have no difference in content compared to legacy.
So you can keep playing this.

I can only speak for myself, but I can see a lot of similar reasons form other people.
I really like the fresh start. I am not really attached to an individual character and the gear. For me the journey is the most fun, not necessarily the endgoal.

While leveling making all these smaller and bigger decisions about what to farm next and seeing your character grow everytime is msot of the fun.

If after a cycle ends I would jump into the same, already developed character I would burn out alot quicker. Also this does give me a artifical incentive to play new buidls and characters.

I kinda feel like this cycle mechanics is very simialr to something like a rogue-like game. You start over from scratch and you have to make the best use out of what the game decides to give you. Some of the early big drops are some of the most exciting for me. Even though most of them are not “endgame viable” items, having some huge ring or amulet drop with 2 desired affixes and then having a craft go how you want it, those are some of the best moments for me during the development of a character.

If you would ever run the same character, even with new content in legacy (at the same time with the new content in the cycle) I would guess that even than you wouldnt play the game (any action RPG basically) for very long. The start over is the core of the game. And even with new content … new content with a character that is level 100 and what … hundreds of hours old? haha … yeah for sure that sounds fun (not)

Maybe it came across too harsh and I get many people enjoy a fresh start which is why most aRPGs work this way now.

However, here’s an example. I got over 100h in D4 and 2 pretty maxed out characters. And D4 has no real endgame nor a reason to play it beyond 40-60h with one toon. So it makes perfect sense. Now, I got about the same time in Last Epoch and I can’t say I have a single piece of gear that’s great. Not one with all the lines that I want. And I’m talking purple gear, let alone double+ legendary potential Uniques. The very thought of getting one to drop after hundreds of hours just to be cancelled for new content next week…?

You would if the game offers variety. Check Grim Dawn. I got 3k hours. And the game is mostly offline with more static rolls and cheating BUT incredible variety in almost unlimited ways to build things to test.

LE seems to be pretty good in this, too, so I thought they would maybe not feel compelled to do it this way. In a D2-like loot chaser where it’s all about getting lucky with those lines on your gear (which is HARD), personally, I can’t get the satisfaction of dropping a gem when I know I won’t be able to use it in new content next month or so.

No offense, but I think this might come down to your being to unexperienced. After 40-60h with enough experience on one character you should have either perfect rares or at least decent exalted items.
I am not sure what you would consider good exalted gear or “double+ legendary potential uniques”. Especially for uniques the LP rarity varies a lot and depend on the unique.
There are a lot of uniques that are easiyl farmable with 1 or 2 LP.

Still with mroe experience after 40-60h there will always be something that you can still improve your character with. That is kinda the cool thing about these types of games. The sky is the limit.

To be perfectly clear: there is no “New Content” limited to cycles. At least not in the foreseeable future.

So if you do not want a fresh start, just keep on playing your characters in legacy, don’t even create any on cycle, they will experience the EXACT SAME CONTENT.

Stash tabs are reset on new cycle as well. Devs have said they were considering some system where you merge your bought tabs in cycle to the legacy tabs based on the total gold you spent on them. So if you needed 100k for your next legacy tab and you spend 100k getting all your tabs in cycle, it will add a new tab in legacy as if you had bought it. It will also place the cycle tabs in remove-only mode, so you can switch gear to your permanent tabs.
I don’t know if there are any news about this, though. If they actually implemented it this way or if they made a different system. Shouldn’t be relevant till cycle end, though.

Leaderboards are Cycle-only, and that’s important some people, not me I don’t give a flying fig for them but for some reason they matter to some … I will be playing Legacy for the very reason you cite, same as I do in PoE, I can wait for season/cycle content to be integrated, I have zero desire to re-roll every 3 months and waste tons of time getting back to where I was last time. :frowning:

But it doesn’t? Did you read Heavy’s post in a mirror?

Where did they say that?

In many many places. You can search the forums and someone probably linked an answer by the devs. There are also the weekly streams Mike does where he said that several times.
This is because they’re still adding core stuff to the game (factions and masteries) and it wouldn’t make sense to make them cycle exclusive. Also because they’re still trying to figure out what they want to do with cycle content.

Mike said it a few times in DM and Ghazzy’s 2 hour interview stream yesterday

but also the entire stash will be moved to legacy at the end of cycle? by mistake I created a Cycle chqaracter… I ever played seasons before in D3/D4… hopefully also the entire stash will be moved to legacy. I do not remember to be asked what type of char I want at char creation, is not nice to force players to play cycles if they do not want.

edit: now if you create a char there is the option to choose between cycle and legacy, it was not 2 days ago.
I see for legacy is written “no leaderboards”, seriously? why no leaderboards in legacy? for the moment I will give a negative review on Steam due to this! let the players play as they want! I want to play legacy and have leaderboards!

What is this bs Attitude?
You can Go wherever you want and Play a Game that suits you.
Let the developers do as THEY want. Its their Game, Not yours.

Furthermore you are Not forced to Play cycle. Open your eyes When creating a new char and find Out by yourself.

I bought the game now is mine also…
Locking end-game behind seasons is a very bad decision, half of player base will leave because of that. bot all have time to re-level and re-build all day long

So only the gear you’re wearing at the moment is moved to Legacy? Everything in your stash is gone?

In other words, if I drop a 0.000001% LP4 in Cycle, I better have it equipped at seasonal reset or the game will straight up delete it?

What if I drop a perfectly rolled Exalted for another class or one I don’t have a slot open? Do I have to start another character and rush level to equip it before the reset or it gets deleted?

How are you guys saying seasonal resets do not delete player progress? There is literally no incentive to collect items or farm mats on Cycle. Gearing in this game is too hard for such a seasonal model.

Looking at PoE, they will lose many more players if they don’t give cycle-exclusive content.

No, your stash is all moved to legacy. When you start on another cycle, those tabs are reset. Meaning cycle tabs, not legacy tabs.
