POE2 refugee, looking for "getting started" guide

As title.
I have played some LE before, never really got to end game though.
I am looking for a general new player guide, and maybe some starting build guidance.
I can find them on youtube, but it’s hard to know what is good content vs. garbage since I don’t know who the good streamers are for this.
I have over 10k hours in POE1, and POE2 is just not fun yet, so I am looking for some ARPG fun while I wait for more POE1 content. Any suggestions are appreciated, please with links if you can, since I won’t know any game shorthand like “Oh you should watch Chummy” or “just play ZtBF”

Welcome to Eterra!

You don’t really need a guide for this game, most things are self-explanatory, however if you feel somewhat lost then for basic things you can look at in-game guide. It’s a bit lackluster, but it’s enough for an introduction. If you don’t understand something there is always somebody in global chat that will be more than happy to talk you trough it, so don’t be afraid to ask questions there.

For videos… I wouldn’t know. I’d rather play the game than watch someone do it.

Big thing about Last Epoch, is that you don’t need a build guide at all. Respecing skills may be a little tedious, because you need to level them up again, but it really doesn’t take much time. Also, new update will introduce a way for mastery (think ascendancy) respec (which is a bit of a hot-topic right now), so no fault in trying something else. If you really want some build guides, check Last Epoch Tools. There are also some on Maxroll, and I suspect many different websites.

Just play, maybe watch a video about crafting in LE since its pretty different. Most other stuff is self-explanatory, has tooltips or ingame wiki.

Stuff that works very different:
Ailments can stack, chance to apply them can go >100% (so 250% would be 2 stacks and 50% chance for a third)
Ailements have a fixed base dmg, and lets say you apply bleed with a phys melee attack.
→ the bleed will scale with phys dmg, but not with melee dmg
→ the bleed will scale with the attribute the skill scales with (every skill gets 4% dmg per some attribute, its in the tooltip)
→ the bleed will scale with the general more damage nodes in the skilltree of the applying skill (just %more damage not %more melee damage)

Armor works partially for non-phys dmg, endurance is another defense for life
Ward is decaying ES, the more you have, the more you loose per second
Resistances are not that harsh on you, since monsters get 1% pen per level
→ 1% res missing is 1% more dmg taken, not like in poe where its 4%+

I’d just play the game, choose the class that looks best, and try the skills. It’s not that hard to get into endgame with any build, when youve played another ARPG before.

Thanks for the info! All sounds good, interesting to hear that ailments stack and can multiply the applications as you say… As I’m sure you know, I’m more familiar with the “Only the highest dmg ignite will do damage and the rest are ignored”. I really appreciate the quick TL/DR on armor and resists too!

Thanks for the response, I will probably still try to find some good streamers though, seeing what’s happening in the popular community can be fun!

It’s probably good to mention as well that each stack is independent. Meaning that if you apply stacks with skill A and stacks with skill B, they don’t all do the same damage (although they usually scale with the same stats), but rather the damage inherited from the skill that applied it.

As others have said, you don’t really need a guide, since the game is pretty easy early on. But if you want one, you should start with maxroll. Not because their guides are the best (they tend to be less optimized for endgame than the ones on lastepochtools), but because they do a good job explaining why things work the way they do, how you scale things, etc.

Other than that, probably check some builds gameplay, just to see what strikes your fancy, and go for it. If you need help, people in chat are usually friendly.

Oh, in case of doubts, you can always check the in-game guide as well. There’s lots of great info in there (default “G” key).

Also a refugee from PoE2 here. I recommend checking out videos by Raxxanterax and Steelmage on their channels. There’s a lot of useful information about Last Epoch, especially from the perspective of PoE 1-2 players.

You may be waiting a long time while they work on their “slow and meaningful combat” pipe dream.

You may just want to settle into LE here. There’s a lot of depth to it, and the new update just adds so much. Most importantly, they’re not going to pull the rug from underneath you and turn the game into a slog to match some silly “vision”.

Well first of all Maxroll updated their stuff already. Some YT vids are surfacing as well.

Personaly I would say “Just play the game!”. It’s not as arteficaly overbloated as PoE and as soon as you understand the basics and interactions you are good to go.

Welcome man, PoE addict here. The great thing about LE is that you dont need a PhD in nerdism to have a good time with the game. Im sure you understand damage scaling pretty well because of PoE, you just need to learn how ailments work, @Andi1202 got you rolling with bleed. There are so many new things added this patch, and unless you followed the game regularly, you will be on level playing ground like most of us.

Just have fun, check @Heavy for his amazing filters, and see what you can come up with. Enjoy man!

One thing that should be mentioned, because you’ll likely come across it very often in guides, is legendary items. Basically, uniques in LE have a chance to have “Legendary Potential”. And what this means is that you can take an exalted item (purple gear) of the same item type (base isn’t important, just item type, meaning any glove base will work on a glove unique) and slam affixes onto it.
If the unique has 1LP it will transfer an affix, if it has 4LP it will transfer them all (except sealed affixes). Currently the chances for the affixes to transfer are exactly the same for all affixes, in 1.2 you will be able to choose one affix that will be guaranteed to transfer (the rest, if it has enough LP, will still be random with no weight, so 33% for each).

As for videos, I also recommend you take a look at Aaron’s videos. He’s a long time fan of LE, has a bunch of build guides where he explains why he makes the choices he does and, more importantly, he doesn’t use items like Red Rings or Ravenous Voids (equivalent to HH or Mageblood) in them, so they’re accessible to newcomers.

Yes. Several Bootcamp videos about, CoF, MG, Defense and other things

Aaron is a good one
Also you should check Dr3adful’s vids Zero to Hero for leveling tooltips
And Frozensentinel for theorycrafting stuff
BabblingBike’s vids about loot filters and sentinel class tips

So… LOGIN make sentinel class, start using THROW HAMMERS since level 1 (or something close, dont played from start for years now) choose PALADIN as your mastery (Ascendancy) and thats it GG WP you good to go, also focus on BLEED, Hammerdin got HUGE BUFFS in 1.2 also nice MTX for Hammer Throw skill

Thanks man! Appreciate it!

But… what will I do with my PhD in Nerdism? I could teach 102 college classes about POE1.
Really, this is a great response, thanks man!

This is great info, I had seen someone mention legendary potential, but I didn’t look in to what it meant. Thanks man!

Thanks so much for the resource directions, I’ll check em out!

Just a heads up, since it’s kinda frowned upon to kinda spam posts in a thread, you can simply select text from a post and hit “Quote”. That way you can reply to everyone in the same post

Maxroll or Arena leaderboards are great to know which builds perform well. BinaQc usally has dope builds at start. I suggest going MG if ya wanna feel dat power COF - is grindy usally gud if ya don,t wanna trade n play multiple classes n hoard loot. The Sanctrum Market discord usally offer great loot filters for MG. Hmm also raxxxx on yt makes great builds n has good start loot filter you can copy n has some great guides.

Most important: Do not worry too much, just go in and have fun. You don’t need any preperation or studying to very successfuly go through this game.

Especailly the very first playthrough is someone sacred IMO. I still to this day envy people that can experience some of the cool things LE has to offer the very first time.

Also, press [G] to get all the knowledge you need. It is forthe In-Game Game Guide. It is increidbly thorough and has links between different topics (you can even link pages in chat).

It explains the basic of basically all mechanics.
