I’ve been working on Aberroth and I’ve gotten most of the fight down, but then the final phase absolutely destroys me. The main problem I’m having is I have really limited room to actually hit him and when the room fills with DoT AoEs and I have to reposition for his slam or death lazer, if that doesn’t get me, often I’ll die to the DoT damage while I’m unable to hit him for leech. Does anyone have some tips for that phase as a melee build, when I’ve tried searching for guides/kill videos, they’re all ranged builds.
I’m also kind of wondering if either of those attacks can be tanked through with Rebuke, but I’m a bit scared to waste an attempt that late into the fight on testing that.
Do you spawn these while in the last phase already or do you have a lot of them active already before the last phase?
Generally I would say you just should avoid spawning them as much as possible. Avoiding the void Orbs that spawn them on contact should be your highest priority, especially if your dps is not high.
If you do spawn some of them, especially in the middle part of the arena you can actually cleanse/remove them with the fire explosion.
As a general tip I would say you want to always try to be very close to the boss at all times. This way it will be way easier to control and evade the Cone Vaccum and Laser.
When he does the cone vaccum it will always be followed by the laser on top of your current position.
So when he is using the cone vaccum you should try to go between the boss and the edge of the arena. This way he will shoot the laser into the outside of the arena leaving you a lot of space.
I don’t have good footage right now unfortunately.
Usally I hate doing self plugs but in case you are interested I will stream later today and I will do a lot of Aberroth kills again for some farming.
I’m usually only ending up with orbs in the last phase when the arena starts to become really small. Between the orbs, beams, death laser, etc, it starts getting really tough to position.
I didn’t know what that initial cone was before the lazer, I thought it was just targeting. Is it fine to get hit by that then dodge to avoid the lazer or is that a problem too? I usually panic a bit and try to run from that and it usually doesn’t end well.
I’d be interested in seeing some melee kills, sure. When/where do you stream?
The big void cone vaccum and the laser are basically linked. The boss will Always do the void cone first and then when finishing aim at the players position to fire the laser.
So you as the player are in full control where the boss will shoot the laser.
I will stream at 8pm European time (in about 3 hours)
If you can’t make it I can extract some videos from my VoD if you want.
But I would be showcasing and explaining a bit if join and ask in the chat.
My character is already so strong that I can kill the boss in seconds, but for education purposes I can showcase some strata.
His character probably doesn’t have so much armor and dot mitigation via armor.
Your character has around 60% of armor mitigation applied to dots (so 0.6*0.8 = 48%), plus around 20% just dot mitigation. With 3k health that’s very solid HP against dot.
You don’t need to post your character for us to see it
You saying that you just reached empowered makes me thing it’s the forge guard rather than the older paladin.
I see where you are coming from, but at the same time, why does that matter if you might want to get tips for the boss fight or LE in general?
The funny thing is, you make it sound like i play some ultra crazy meta stuff with a million health that is unkillable, which is not the case at all.
I am merely utilizing all the new scaling options that VK got (8 instead of 6 HP per vitality and 1%more mele void dmg/3 vitality).
Char has 70 Vitality with a lot of Health legendary crafts. And my eHP is not much bigger than a very well rounded Sentinel with 2,5-3,5k Health but better other forms of mitigation.
I sacrificed Oracle Amulet, Champion Reglia and Eternal Gauntlests for more health and some generic DR.
As @wkernel pointed out my eHP vs DoT is actually not that great and the character is rather offensively specialized.
But you bringing up “target audience” is something intersting to me. I mean I don’t consider myself a big streamer to begin with and I never thought about it, but the funny thing is, I play the most non-meta hipster stuff imagiable and being called upon having 4,3k Health and not being in the target audience, while my target audience usually are actually more newer/unexperienced players because I love sharing Knowledge and explain stuff.
I am not sure how much you listened to what I said or when you joined.
But I specifically said that this character is already way past Aberroth progression. And i can basically kill him blindfolded. (not quite :D)
So its actaully not the best character to demonstrate Aberroth on.
But I think @Darthelmet did received a few visual hints and tips how to deal with certain mechanics, which was the goal of my invite towards him.
Thanks for the help. Follow up question: We were talking about getting frailty into the build in some way. Where do you think is the easiest/most reasonable way to get it from where I am now? https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/QdxkW2eQ
I see it can be available at the end of the FG tree, but it seems really expensive to get it. I’m experimenting with this Orian’s eye + Osprixbane less fire damage taken combo, but if that seems worse than the frailty maybe that can be where I move some points. Both options seem kind of expensive. On gear, it’s just a matter of finding something better than what I have that still has room for frailty. Which seems like it would take a while.
You might consider it on the gloves. The +2 sealed str doesn’t do that much overall, so you could consider sealing frailty instead. Probably hard to find another good dot gloves, though.
The sealed str was actually a mistake lol. I meant to glyph of insight on the armor to DoT mitigation then seal that, but accidentally used a glyph of despair on the T2 str. But yeah, hopefully I can find another eternal gauntlet with good stats and get frailty on it. What do you think you would deprioritize on the gloves if given the choice? The rest of the stats all seem pretty valuable.
Honestly, they seem to be pretty good as they are. You’re obviously going for DoT mitigation, which is a valid strategy. Hybrid health is always good, crit chance is important for your stuns and block chance is important for your build. So all I would really change is the sealed affix for frailty.
Maybe I would prefer block chance or health T7 instead, but on experimental gear you don’t get to pick much, so overall it’s a great item.
If you find a great exalt you can use rune of research to push the affix. You can even guarantee T5 with it.
Considering you can control what the rune of research rolls, you could do a few exalted prophecies. All you need to do is a good exalt with the 3 affixes you want and seal frailty at T2+ to make sure you get T5 experimental DoT affix.
That being said, finding that base with a T7 on either of the 3 affixes might take a while.
I guess it really depends on what your aims are for the rest of the gear.
Overall, getting frailty on the gloves will be an improvement but not a massive improvement. So if you have other stuff to farm for that you think might improve your build, go for it instead and wait for a natural drop.
I was thinking that. Not sure where I’d take from though. Already lost a lot of damage moving points around and changing gear. I guess if the Orian’s Eye thing doesn’t work out I can get points back from Osprixbane.
Nope, I play offline since 1.0. Those must be very old chars.
Yes those are from Beta. I gave up on online because I sit behind a WLAN repeater and have too much connection stutter often leading to my chars being killed with me staring at the frozen screen in frustration.
The days where I would route a 15m cable through the appartment are long gone.
I was just kidding Heavy! I was curious and joined your stream for a couple of minutes. And I was amazed that it is possible to amass so much health. Right now, if I could somehow accomplish that on my char, I would have negstive DPS.
What annoys me with DoT mitigation is that it is only avaiable on implicits, wich forces me to chase very good exalted pieces fo amulet, chest and gloves (did I forget something?). So no uniques in these slots. Now I wonder whether I should priorotize health as that is just a regular affix and would give me much more freedom with itemization.
