also implying that MTX and paid classes is the only way to monetize an ARPG. base game = standard league, new season $15, everyone pays, all seasonal content unlocked and added to ur core experience, every new season payment unlocks alll previous seasons. monetization done.
I’m just wondering, did you all scream that Diablo 3 was P2W when they sold the necromancer class?
diablo 3 was the epitome of p2w, they had a real money auction house. and yes locking necro behind expansion was dumb and p2w.
This is extremely disingenuous. Your quote was literally 7 1/2 years ago.
You think they know where the game will be in that large amount of time?
Also the last announcement before this clearly explained why there has to be some sort of change or paid content. The game was not profitable.
Criticing what they are doing is totally fine, but quoting some old quotes from literally years ago makes no sense. Nobody can plan that much into the future.
If you want to monetize your game this way sure. But we are not in azeroth anymore, just as an example, where stuff works like a box pized game and a sub fee every now and then.
LE offers nothing big to write home about and wanting money for new classes is just desprate right now.
Brother they were bought for 97 million by krafton, they obviously were making a boatload to get that kind of offer as an indie studio.
Tf you mean they cant pay salaries
i think they should increase the price of their base game tbh. Also, go take a look at their steam reviews and look at what’s happening there. I don’t think you’re in tune w/ the market in the way that you think you are.
I agree that wanting $ for classes is desperate - though I wouldn’t use that word. I would use, detrimental.
Like an arrow to the heart. Genuinely loved that game. Before their last major patch that is.
All of this is a generalization, but also just bonkers. The people who are here with their torches and pitchforks are because they DON’T hate the game, and want to see it be what it could. People who hate the game you aren’t even going to see here.
As for paying the devs, yes absolutely they deserve compensation. But the reality is they sold over 3 million copies of the game and are in danger of running out of money after 2 years? That is startling.
The game is a bit rough and ready, it’s not really a complete package yet, so being upset about an expansion is reasonable. The classes aren’t balanced at all so being upset about having to pay for a new class is reasonable. The context is equally important.
real money ah was freaking fantastic i sold stuff for over 1500 euro while having great time playing the game. After they removed auction house i never touched diablo 3 again. Man wish all games had real money auction houses where i could sell my spare items for real cash.
There’s no way you’re going to sit here and glaze Krafton’s business accumen.
They overpaid for Other Worlds studios like crazy. That’s not to say they shouldn’t pay them if they meet their threshold for $250M b/c that was agreed upon, but they repeatedly make questionable business decisions.
Still solely splitting, not P2W.
A expansion is beyond the core game. A class is parallel to it. That’s a major difference.
With a class you compete against the other classes… but with a expansion you only compete with those solely in the base game… not those in the expansion.
Well I’m looking forward to the private servers when the emulator releases version 1.0 early next year. I stopped playing them as everything will be wiped for 1.0. Although it will be after their big update that ruined a lot of stuff. Eventually they’ll get the option to make a server based on the game right before the update
I didn’t buy it but it absolutely was complained about for it dominating the ladder, and thus p2w.
The only thing I could see these paradox classes being paid and they being “really different/using different mechanics” is, when they are unlocked through playing the game/or season and then you can do them as an alt with some cool unique features that really spice up the game.
I think the approach of expansion free and class paid can work, but it is extremely hard to calm down people with something like that, if it turns out that some builds, that only work on this class are highly performant.
Not sure how much of a difference it would be if the expansion is paid, but the class is free, but then it turns out some new mechanics or zone in the expansion is the most efficient farming method. Would probably be the same result.
But I think having the entirety of the game at your fingertips without additional fees and only being locked out of some of the new class instead of getting locked out of new “content” is a cool approach. I can already see people arguing that a new class is “content” as well, but they already clearly said the game was not profitable and they need to do something, otherwise we will have no LE anymore.
I think we need some strong Season 4 and 5 now and if these make the playerbase happy the game can thrive, even with some paid content.
For me personally if I like a game, I support it either way. Supporter Packs, Cosmetics, Paid Expansions, Paid Classes. If I enjoy the game I am playing and paying, as long as I have fun.
I hope all the people asking for a roadmap are happy. Roadmaps are useless without detail, and adding detail only boxes the devs into making promises they can’t keep. PLEASE stop asking for things you are not entitled to and let EHG cook or dig their own grave.
Welp I know what I’m downloading.
What a completely delusional and out-of-touch post, but I’ll respond anyway.
First of all, the game already costs 35 dollars. If they don’t have enough money, that’s not my problem. I’ve already supported the game financially and I continue to support it as I see fit.
Secondly, if they are already short on money after the Krafton acquisition and from MTX sales, then the problem clearly lies not with the consumer, but with the developer. They should downsize, restructure, create higher quality content, or finally deliver on their promises.
And thirdly, if you’re so worried about the starving developers, you can try buying a supporter pack yourself
We didn’t really ask for one, we were told we’re getting one soon about 7 weeks ago and we still haven’t been given one tbh.
Well, it’s being good decent meh while it lasted.
Of course it will.
It’s always like that. A new class dlc release OP. Stays OP for a season, then get nerfed into the ground and a new OP gets released the next season.
