Last Epoch’s Season 4 and Beyond: Expansion, Paradox Classes, and Roadmap

i play mage class others could not exist for me so. I get free xpack and i lose nothing.

Sounds great, can’t wait!

This expansion is free. They have not said anything about all future expansions to also be free. And no, classes and specs locked behind a paywall is just about the worst decision they could have ever made.

I dont’ know how do you imagine an expansion that wouldn’t give any advantage and useful features? If they make the xpac paid then it would divide the playerbase (‘I can’t play with my buddy who doesn’t own the xpac,…’ etc ). Actually both options are bad. I 'd prefer free xpac and classes of course

I think they didn’t want to deal with legal issues from the kickstarter stating you wouldn’t have to pay for future content. Every kickstarter backer could be part of a class action lawsuit if they then charged for expansions. Well it would either be a lawsuit or they’d have to offer refunds to any backers that chose to take them. Their game keys would then be invalidated on steam.

I’d say that new classes aren’t new content, just new ways to experience content. And so it avoids the kickstarter issues. I could be way off base here but it feels like this is right.

I’m positive that finalizing the future monetization is the reason why it took so long to get a “roadmap”.

Xpac = Content not dividing player power into base game = weak vs Xpac = strong. For example D4 could’ve had runes for everyone but they don’t. They balanced the game about having runes so everyone who didn’t have runes is behind by miles. Making a new game system available for everyone and delivering good content would’ve been the better move. All it offered was powercreep and and Act i can’t even remember because it was bad. That’s no quality content from point of view and forcing ppls into buying an expension so they don’t lose power needed to play. I don’t like it :man_shrugging:

11th hour games was bought by the company that runs pubg

I think most people here has already said what must be said, paid class is stupid don’t do that, people are already mad enough with the Krafton stuff don’t make even more stupid decisions please. I buy every legendary pack for this game, but if things go this way I’ll just stop supporting, sorry. The game is bugged af, balance has never existed, but now you want a paid class? My hype for this game was already dying, and now I just see bad decision after bad decision, you can call me a hater or whatever, but I’ve been playing since 2019, thousands of hours, and now I have to see one of my favorite games go downhill, I hope I’m wrong and the devs change this.

The developers have a dead economy and dupe since the first season, they still do nothing. But they still don’t have enough money. NEED MORE MORE AND MORE

Ok, I will ask the question that no one seems to be asking:

Does this mean the story will be completed in Season 5? It would seem odd to release an expansion when the main storyline has not been finished. I was hoping the roadmap would show this but it seems like the roadmap doesn’t show anything other than season 4 and 5 will be done before PS5 release and expansion.

My recommendations:

  1. Hire a community manager immediately. Start dropping hype posts about the classes/art/expansion, etc - we need constant drip.
  2. Include the class with the expansion and charge for it. If you trust your game enough, it will sell. “If you build it, they will come.”
  3. Build a strong, robust endgame with chase goals and variable ways to get there.
  4. Consolidate on what you’ve already built and clean it up, sand off the edges, make the newplayer experience easier than any other game out there. Don’t forget about it just to create new content to make more money. You need to keep a flow of newcomers to build the base.

I imagine you know all this already, but somehow you’re doing the opposite of it. Common sense, guys! Don’t retreat from the communication now out of fear, you need to communicate more than ever, and listen to your community. Seriously, you’ve got some loyal fans here if you’re willing to dialogue.

People need to understand something. If everything was free than the developers would not be able to pay their mortgages and feed their families. Their salaries rely on this game. And there is no way in hell you can sell enough mtx to pay everyone on their team.

This is whats wrong with our world. Everyone expects everything to be given to them and they dont have any responsibilities so they dont know what its like to have to work to get paid.

Bottom line. Haters just need to get banned from ever playing the game/being on the internet.

If they ban all the haters i don’t think this game will survive much longer.

Intriguing!

So freakin sad… with the direction this game is taking. The devs looked and sounded so down to earth like they wanted to deliver the best experience and at the same time not seem money hungry. If the MTX was good you would make money just see PoE

But with the direction this game is taking unfortunetly i think this journey might be over, already important community people have more or less left … as example Dr3adful / Boardman and so on.

This is the most stupid thing i’ve ever read on this forum, you don’t even have a badge, you don’t support this game, don’t say dumb stuff.

They definitely need to avoid the issues seen with D3’s Necromancer and practically every new hero in Torchlight Infinite.

D3’s Necromancer was sold separately after it was announced there would be no more expansions for the game. It is at the top of the meta for every one of their seasons and was the top tier grouping class as well. I never bought it, mainly out of principal but also because zoo builds sucked power wise.

Torchlight Infinite pretty much guarantees that the new hero added to a season is OP. They are incentivized to do this so that people will want to buy them each season. But there are always heroes that are close to and even stronger so it’s not necessarily P2W. But they cover that with P2W pets.

Marvel Heroes sold heroes but you could also unlock them with currency you got in game. I never had issues buying them as a thank you for the devs.

Last Epoch isn’t super competitive and outside of Uberroth they do a much better job of balancing than most ARPGs. Ladders are separated by class so I’m not P2W is really going to apply unless it’s truly OP for farming.

The biggest issue is going to be the pricing. They are most likely going to be overpriced for many people. And if they are, the whining will be massive.

If this new Paradox Class is really have different leveling and building mechanic I don’t mind paying, but if it is just ptw(I mean if it will overperform the rest of existing classes in a big scale) then I dont know if it is good decision in long run to make it.

sick handle btw

implying a “new playstyles” isn’t new content.

gameplay is inherently content in the context of a video game. these are specifically stated as new playstyles, even the most uninitiated potential jury would understand that to be the case.

guys im starting a new tv show and u wont have to pay for any new content or any new episodes, also guys im releasing this new character he’s super funny, but u do gotta pay to see him, fuck i know that sucks but it is what it is.

tbh i dont know about the kickstarter issues, and maybe this is a factor, but if they’re going to be permanently hamstrung b/c of this, then maybe it’s best to pull the ripcord on that right now.

dude i’d literally be happier if they were just like ok guys its $15 per season - but everyone pays - and everyone gets everything unlocked, cosmetics, classes, pets, whatever. They do seasons every 6 months - so far - so who cares.

This is much more fair imo than having some ppl who have paid classes and some don’t.
