Last Epoch’s Season 4 and Beyond: Expansion, Paradox Classes, and Roadmap

wild thought here, imagine making the supporter pack more expensive and not charging for new class, wild right ? why not look for other solutions to make more money and avoid backlash ? the paid class is such a bad decision… you could have made some fancy paid stash tabs for uniques also… season pass… its not like the arent no options available… but hey ur game, dont listen to feedback.

Ok, I wasn’t clear. I’m not talking about what that is now, since we have a defined non-infinitely scaling point (Abby/Uberroth), I was talking about during the time period you were talking about, which lead up to Abby then Ubberoth.

Prior to Abby being implemented, what would the “top content” have been then that EHG should have added some new top content to in a nice graduated difficulty curve?

The unfortunate down side of having infinitely scaling content is that it’s then difficult to point to a thing & say “this is tier 1” & the next bit which is harder, “this is tier 2”, etc, like you can with PoE’s maps. So while the current implementation of monos was good to give us end game without any end, to enable us to keep on playing, the lack of defined difficulty points causes issues when do you want to add in fixed difficulty content.

Abby wasn’t bad, it was ok-ish top-content, just the road there was - and a bit is still - messy. A bit more then ‘tack extra boss on boss’ would’ve been a good solution, something which has more then 5 minutes of difference. End-game didn’t really change much with the Harbingers sadly, and they had loads of potential.

We got 2 different ways currently how live-service ARPGs implement the progression.
You either fill the road of the repetitive stuff with possible side-mechanics where you actually need to use at least a little bit of time (Nemesis is nice mechanically but short) or you theme the progression to specific content with specific unique encounters.

Decent examples here are TL:I again with the side-content, they’ve got a ton going on by now, basically in the time since they released in October 2022 they had 10 seasons. It wasn’t really ‘filled’ at the beginning either… but they provided those mechanics in a regular pace and that kept people coming back.

Or you do it like PoE where for example shaper/elder have themed content with specific enemies and drops according to it along the road to getting there. And then it was the conquerors with their specific enemies, special mechanics for them and drops as you progress towards them. Which was reduced when the sheer amount of mechanics went so much that it became too much, going more then TL:I route with having that space filled with the side-mechanics instead.

That’s what people were used to when they ask a company to ‘provide pinnacle content’. It’s usually a whole mechanic around that stuff instead of simply having a boss sitting around and that being basically ‘it’.
Sure, EHG did a bit more, they tried to implement a story with it as well… but that feels utterly detached. People randomly show up. They provide a bit of conversation but have absolutely zero interaction with the progression. You have a really hard time to care about them. The area is also nicely designed… but that design work should’ve gone into a few enemy types and a small mechanic at least for the Monoliths leading up to a Harbinger for example. Instead the main NPC would’ve sufficed to be in the End of Time area and simply sitting around there… the impact would’ve been nearly the same, mechanically though much much more engaging then.

Yeah, it is a problem definitely, and yes… endless scaling is a thing which is liked to be done in several games. But also it’s commonly done in games which won’t expect major updates to those mechanics anymore… it’s a permanent thing. LE was always supposed to update regularly on the other hand, hence by the time people are reliably at ‘the end point’ new stuff would’ve been introduced.
Optimally up to a point where reasonably finishing content during a whole Cycle becomes nigh impossible. Sure… core progression done… but side-stuff being tons available still left, right and center.
Like improving and scaling the mechanics as in TL:I
Or setting up the Betrayal board, Delving to a proper depth and searching for the bosses there, doing Heists to get the rare items from it and outfitting the NPCs for it, heck… even Sanctum with the relics does a decent job of having a place to progress ‘something’ in a reasonable way still. Not to speak of the core goals for unlocking Atlas points or getting the 4 orbs.

Can we refund the game? This is going in totally the wrong direction

If you bought it within 2 weeks of this post you sure can.

There is an interview with the devs and the escapist. Might be worth a Google / read.

Likely much much more then that actually.
But yeah, depending on where you life 14 days return policy is a given unless substantially used already. In this case universally likely.

But it’s to be seen how it turns out overall, so many many issues left, right and center.

As per the News section of EHG’s Discord from EHG_DerrickG:

In case you missed this information posted an hour ago.

Obviously we missed it since once again it’s not in the News-section of the Forum and linked from there as it should be.

I get why they don’t post their interview with the escapist, it would look like one big PR stunt. But I got to agree why not also post that they are updating the roadmap here as well?

Here is the thing. I think a lot of people would be a lot less angry if EHG would have been better at communicating expectations going forward after the Krafton sale. We all know EHG needs to make money. But continuing to tell us “news is coming” and the “roadmap is coming” and then getting rug-pulled is what feels like slap in the face. If ya’ll had a Marketing role I’d apply bc I have 15 years experience, bc the way ya’ll had such a lack of communication and setting expectations is what people are upset about. We spend TONS of money on games when we feel like they have EARNED it. But the last couple months have left a very sour taste in our mouths. I pray ya’ll learn from this.

Thanks Andrew! As always you’re looking out for the rest of us. Regrettably EHG just doesn’t do the job themselves although it’s been a complaint for a long time now.

This is their “official” forum, which they own, it would only make sense to keep their community informed here rather than trying to force their players to have accounts on five other sites to search out the different pieces of information that should be here.

This is one of the things that frustrates me most about EHG, what appears to be their apparent lack of concern over keeping their actual players informed. I thought with Derrick coming in and everything that it would change, but I was gravely mistaken.

I sincerely hope I misunderstood what could easily be construed as Last Epoch having paid for classes. That would be terrible mistake given how incredibly antithetical it is to the development philosophy that gave birth to the game.

As for the statement regarding AI, that’s obviously pretty open ended, leaving me personally questioning why more definitive language wasn’t used to declare that it wouldn’t be used in the development of the game.

If you aren’t going to use it, say as much directly. Saying you’re going to maintain the same mindset or philosophy is not the same and we all know it. The idea that the game production will be cheaper, but all levels of content from expansions, seasonal releases and now classes will be behind paywalls leaves the impression that we as players and some of us, long time supporters, are looking at another failed cash grab.

Like I said, I hope there is a misunderstanding. We all know Last Epoch was in a desperate state in need of profitable content. It would be in better taste to make more expensive, better designed cosmetics, released in shorter intervals. Whatever the case, good luck. I’ve checked back every month, but have no intention of playing again so long as the intention is to do what it appears to be.

Thank you for posting this here.

I too had missed it as I don’t really use discord. Why it wasn’t posted on here In the news section I will never know haha!

I hope external links are allowed here because I found this kinda interesting:

Give it a read guys (and girls) and tell me what you think about it.

It’s even more communication incompetence plainly spoken.

‘There is no playbook going from a 1 person to a 100 person company’… outside of the examples of every company which ever did in history I guess.

And ‘Krafton is not at fault’ is the absolutely dumbest thing to state in the current situation. ‘How to shovel your grave the fastest 101’ has clearly been read here.

Yeah, entire interview was him trying to put out fires so to speak. I hope the game does better in real life than in theory, because right now the future for LE seems bleak AF imho.

“Sorry I can’t keep what I said in the past because I messed up.” That’s what I’m getting.

Notice how most people complaining about the monetization have no supporter pack banners; if the moochers all contributed then it’s likely EHG wouldn’t be in this spot to begin with.

The same people saying good bye as though they matter somehow. Like they were going to put in money at some point.

I give no shits about how EHG monetizes, LE is my favourite game and I’ve been actually supporting it for a long time. Those that actually care about LE are going to wet themselves in Paradox juice.

If there is something worth supporting I will outside of the support I already gave for free like word of mouth, bug reports, beeing a CT and whatnot. If you count the worth of people in supporter packs this tells me more about you then I ever wanted to know about you. So go and get more banners…

So? There is more to supporting a game than purchasing some supporter packs.

I’ve over 500 hours in the game and I’m being told I can have the DLC, but we’re getting a class we have to pay for… AFTER EHG told us years ago that they’d NEVER do this type of thing.

and you’ll be saying goodbye when the game dies because it lacks a player-base.

We just wanna see them stick to their word and to respect the players.

Blind devotion to a game and company, this sounds like the people trying to defend D4 and failing. Your shill is showing.
