This is why that was possible and avoided the issue that a full on melee character runs into. There seems to be this little “lip”, of sorts, between Lagon and the floor. When you move up to him, and therefore into this lip, you get stuck and you can’t Dodge or back out. And often the character stops responding, skills “seem” to stop working for several seconds. This doesn’t happen on any other fight within the game.
Huh, interesting, I didn’t encounter this problem. Bug maybe?
There have been previous posts with the Lagon encounter having issues for minions & certain skills like Lunge, Shield Rush & Warpath. It’s certainly not perfect & could do with a couple of “passes” by the devs to smooth out the issues.
Lagon is fine and both gear checks and skill checks are fine as well…
except for one thing that kind of invalidates all that. His hit box is messed up in a big way. It’s perfectly fine that you’re expected to dodge stuff on the ground but when, without any kind of visual indicator, the ground on which you can move isn’t really the ground on which you can move. Well, that’s pretty stupid.
Yeah, bugs will always **** even the best fights.
Roger that - a waypoint at Lagon is DEFINITLY needed and helpful! Beating the architect took me an hour - just to find out, that with my actual gear i do have not the slightest chance to beat Lagon…
My Beastmaster can’t make it through the arena phase. Splashes and lightning everywhere, can’t spam potions fast enough.
What’s your build, sounds like you need more leech/hp regen/sustain. Ideally you wouldn’t need to use potions because you can leech/regen back to full in a “reasonable” amount of time.
lagon you have to run away from his atk in a circle on ground and look where his head goes to prepare to run for his moving beam; even with tanky build, the 2 other atk, hand smash and lightning bolt, you should be able to take the hit.In monolith he will hve tons of buffs so you can t take those hits, is easy. Play a bit FFXIV bosses hard modes thats 10-40min of fight avoiding one shots every where lol
Billysielu isn’t having a problem with Lagon himself, he’s having issues with the middle phase where you have to kill the tentacles.
Is there an easy way to share a build? Or should I just video it?
Video &/or upload pics of the skill trees & passives, etc to somewhere like imgur.com. I’d probably include the character screen as well.
Thank you for the nice clear video that went through everything nice & slowly (much easier to get screenshot from that ).
That explains why you’re having issues with the second phase, you’re squishy as **** & your gear is all over the place. You have affixes that aren’t relevant to your build (eg, throwing damage on your rings, damage while channelling on your amulet), low level affixes (t1 hp regen & vitality on your helm), but with 30-60 mins of gambling & crafting you can get it fixed.
IMO, you should decide whether you’re going to focus on your own damage (Serpent Strike) or your minions damage, as I personally don’t like going hybrid.
I’ll ignore the idols for the moment, but again, you’ll probably want to decide how you want to split your focus between your own DPS (poison damage for Serpent Strike), your pets DPS (probably phys damage, minion attack speed, etc) & defence (hp, dodge, resists, etc).
And don’t forget, if there are some nice nodes in Shaman/Druid, you can take them, especially if they’re low level.
Before I get into what I think you should change your gear to, lets talk about how. Gambling is your friend. Go to the gambler & have a list of specific bases that you want then look through each tab (weapon/armour/accessories) and buy each one of those bases, make sure you have 2-3 of each for each slot so that if/when you craft & it fractures before you get it to a decent tier you’ve got a backup item to craft with. Then when you’ve gone through each tab hit the refresh button & look for more bases.
When you find a good base with a decent implicit, if it has some good affixes, great, if not & it doesn’t have any instability, use a rune of cleansing to get rid of the affixes then craft on it.
Since you’re lvl 52, all you “need” to get your resists up to is the mid-50s, that’ll mean they’re not negative when you take the area-level penetration into account, but if you can cap them, then that’s better (obviously).
I’ll use only 3 affixes & tier 3 affixes since they are easy to craft up to from a white item.
You’ll need 5x t5 set phys/void & necrotic/poison prefixes and a similar number of elemental resist suffixes to get your resists capped, then you can put your dps/minion prefixes on the other items. Try & avoid “useless” affixes, like phys damage (most of your damage from Serpent Strike is going to be coming from the poison), as they just increase the likelihood that the item will fracture.
Above is a link to a suggested set of gear, open it & play around with the affixes so you can tweak it to your preference, you can move the set prefixes from one of your rings to the relic to get some more minion prefixes in if you want.
Your minions will benefit from your Strength (hp & increased damage) so try & focus on that instead of Attunement, it’ll also buff your Serpent Strike damage.
Passives:
I’d probably remove the points from the following passives
- Wisdom of the Wild
- Natural Attunement
And possibly put some into Gift of the Wilderness (for more hp) or Ancient Call (for more minion HP).
Definitely take Boar Heart & Porcine Constitution & max them, that’ll give you 5s of 30% damage reduction when you get hit by melee.
Your usual quality reply… I was busy offering some suggestions and then your thesis dropped…
Well if @billysielu’s going to take the time to do a video covering his build, should we not take the time to give him some advice on what he can do to his gear?
One thing I forgot to add re the crafting, get the 3x t3 affixes on first, then add another one such as hp or dodge or something.
Actually didnt expect anything less from you…
After reading through it, I actually thought that you could make it a generic “How to” thread for new players… I think it could be very useful to others just starting out…
There’s already a few generic “how to craft” videos out there.
Edit: Plus I prefer dealing with specific issues rather than general “how to” questions.
Thanks for the tips.
I was originally going to be pure minion damage, but then I realised I could use serpent strike to summon an extra minion, but that doesn’t work when you die to the boss and can’t summon the minion (on kill) before the next run. Damage hasn’t been an issue though, I’ve smashed through everything so far mostly by just letting minions do their thing. This class was about 10x easier than my first one (Void Knight).
I had watched some crafting tutorial videos on my first playthrough a while back, but I completely forgot attributes had tiers. The crafting system really needs to be made more intuitive! It shouldn’t be a requirement to go watch YouTube to complete the storyline.
Why would resists be negative? My resists are positive at around 30% according to the game UI.
When I find the motivation to attempt it again I’ll video that too.
When the devs shifted over from protections to resistances in 0.7.10, they added resistance penetration to all mobs. Every mob gets 1% resistance penetration per area level up to a maximum of 75%. So if you’re in a lvl 50 area, mobs will have 50% resistance penetration (meaning your need to subtract 50 from your resistance to get the figure the game uses to calculate damage taken).
So if Lagon is in a lvl 55 zone, any attacks mobs in that area do will have 55% resist penetration. Therefore your resistance of 30% is actually -25% for the purposes of damage calculation. However, if your resists are capped, you actually have +25% resistance for damage purposes.
They did this so that when you are capped on resists & mobs then hit you with some shred, you take an appropriate amount of increased damage. So if you get your resists reduced by 5% from shred (or whatever) then you’d take 5% more damage than if your resists weren’t reduced. If the mob area level penetration wasn’t a thing, then that 5% reduction to your resist would increase the damage you took by 20% (if the mob hit you for 100, with only 70% resist you’d take 30 damage, compared to 25 damage if your resist was capped, 30 is 20% more than 25).
