Item Gifting Development Update from our Principal Game Designer

they will be doing that anyways its already too easy to gear up in LE with how good crafting is

Testign LE without trade and then later addign it will be better than addign trade and then taking it away.

I don’t say they will do that, but that is the route every dev would go.

Taking something away will ALWAYS be perceived waaaaay mroe negative.

Bind on trade for uniques to prevent flipping could be nice. Maybe they could drop with 1-4 trade potential :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m talking about the gifting system, I hope people try it for a few weeks/months before crying it sucks and they want PoE stockmarket simulator 2.0.

If only trade in Groups i don’t need MP, only played solo.

You kind of missed the point a little bit. I don’t care about the person. I see a guy 5 hours in with a mageblood and a HH skinned on top, with 15 mirrors in his stash. Sure he probably RMTed why would I care? I don’t care about him.

The mageblood itself is still cool no matter who is wearing it. If anything knowing someone is willing to spend $100 on gear makes the gear itself seem even crazier. You dropped a $100 belt? holy shit, it doesn’t matter that you don’t rmt yourself and will never sell it you still found $100 on the ground. In a game without trade it’s just a good belt.

How?
Not everybody has friends that play LE, and not everybody wants to play with strangers.
For a large portion of the playerbase this form of trade might as well not exist.

All that does is add a delay to the "everybody is on everybody else’s friends list so there’s still unrestricted trade that needs to have the #### nerfed out of the drop rates.

You can in LE as well.

I don’t think the desire to have killing mobs be the main source of items is a particularly silly thing.

Yup, it happens in PoE and it’d happen in LE if it were possible 'cause that’s human behavior (for better or worse).

It’s not quite that bad. If you had much better gear, you’d be able to drag the through higher corruption content where they’d either get more/better exalted items from drops or you could drag them through the mobo bosses and gift them the build-enabling uniques that drop for them.

the gifting system is not bad but is going to feel bad when i find something my friends or family needed while they’re not online and i can’t give it to them and the only reason people like trading in POE is because it was a way of playing in D2 and was super fun

you still have to kill monsters to get items to trade how is that hard to understand? you’re still killing stuff to find items

Because your friend lying on the floor non-stop is a super fun compelling game experience vs giving them some gear so they aren’t useless pieces of paper… right.

Big disappointment.

You’re describing bartering, there’s reasons why humanity invented currency ~6,000 years ago.

But that’s assuming you have a small and constant group and know how their builds work. Also people are constantly playing or looking to play several builds, so they have to tell you every time.

people also love trading in POE because that was a HUGE way of fun for many players in D2 which is why POE is so successful LE needs to lower drop rates anyways its way too easy to gear up with how good crafting is and how much loot drops and is super easy to target farm

You forget LE is overall pretty generous with drops. Your friends/family will get good items too, save the ones you get solo for alts.

It’s not like PoE where getting a half-usable item can take 30+ hours, so there’s not as much of a pressing need to trade just to scrape by. If building your own character is attainable for the average player, trade economy loses all of its purpose.

Very well reasoned take on the matter and I fully support it. Its a good decision, that many people will dislike because they don’t understand your point or vision of the game.

Rewarding people for actually playing and making finding items actually exciting is just good gamedesign. PoE became such a monotone currency grind which feels more like an advanced skinner box.

Can’t wait to play LE co-op!

While I do appreciate that you guys do not want trade to dominate like in PoE, I feel like this is too limiting. I would like a trade system where you can only trade non-craftable items, like uniques and idols. There are many build enabling uniques and idols out there that I would love to be able to buy. For uniques, I would only allow at most 1 or even 0 legendary potential to be tradable so that you can have your build enabling unique to get started with, but you can always find and craft a better legendary yourself further down the road. This would allow a specific build to get off the ground but still be able to be built up to its maximum potential yourself. I hope you are open to thinking more about this because I don’t think this is the way to go about it.

So out of all the responses this is probably the best one I’ve read, while i do really like the system they want to implement there are flaws to it, but in my honest opinion it’s way better than PoE/D2 I’ve spent hundreds of hours in each of those games, and can confidently say never once did i get a drop i used for end game, everything was always traded to get the gear i wanted, that personally kills the game for me, having to farm up currency in hopes to buy an item which by the time you save up for that specific item could get sold then the next cheapest is twice the amount. Open trade allows bots and cheaters to manipulate the market however they fit cause they are rich enough, a vast majority of people id trade in PoE are just bots scanning markets for the cheapest price to resell, the average player can not keep up with that.
