The idea is basically to take advantage of all the Paladin’s survival along with the new item that ticks damage every 0.5 seconds.

This is something basic, without anything extremely difficult to achieve.
Don’t forget to put T7 Damage Reflected to attackers on the Shield and Body Armor as a legendary affix, that is where the majority of your scaling will come from.
Both Uniques have incredibly easy 1LP, so even 2LP and 3LP are not out of question.
If you can get 20 small weaver idols with 150 flat reflected damage that’d be 3,000 reflected damage… The t7 affixes you mention are a quite chunky & those uniques do get 1 LP very easily.
I’ve always wanted a thorns build & given what the devs have always said about not wanting such a passive style of gameplay, I’m surprised that the unique chest exists.
Not only that, the more damage line is quite insane?
This solves thorns issues, tho a bit too easy perhaps.
But yeah I managed to get around 50k thorns iirc on my paladin and was able to get well over 100k on a shaman attunement stacker.(lol spriggan)
Because the thorns deal “true damage” the damage is shockingly not bad as long as it proccs quickly.
At 50k thorns, you deal 100k thorns to everything looking at you a second, and to bosses this potentially scales to over 200k a tick for 400k+ a second, while not being insane in terms of the numbers people throw around of “dps” 400k a second is insane for defense ignoring damage that you dont have to do anything to proc
like this build is going to be very real which is crazy cause the thorns builds I played were quite decent if not frustrating against certain bosses/enemies that never hit. this just solves all its problems and then some. just doing 2x reflect a second for free is insane, buffing it on rares/bosses? that is nuts lol
I’m not sure the modifier is that bonkers for bosses hitting you & proccing the thorns damage, but for the passive 2x ticks of your thorns, yeah, that’ll be a smidge bonkers.
They seem to have kinda relented on that, considering the autobomber builds, fire aura buffs and even thorns itself last season that allowed Spriggan Form reflect to reach 500+ and even kill Aby, I believe.
The worse for reflect builds were always Lagon (because the damage from tentacles is much smaller and that’s the only that you can reflect) and lizards (because they don’t attack). Let’s see how this fixes that.
I’m counting on it, but these are starter items, not counting all the thorn stacks I can get, I have a thorn shield throw and I have around 2.5k from the idols, an additional 500 from the chest and 450 from the shield, being a druid you can scale it much more due to the thorn shield spam, but with these unmodified items you’ll have enough damage to clear comfortably, but not quickly.
The weird eye enemies also dont hit, meaning you had to rely on % reflect which was very very slow lol.
This fixes all my complaints with reflect builds and makes me wanna start this build soooo bad. but having no idea how hard it is to grind out primal uniques ill save it for a second build.
Player % reflect was never a thing as that was after damage mitigation happened. For minions % reflect was a thing but that died out years ago (I think they might have reduced the percentages you could get). Small frequent hits are best for reflect builds as they don’t do as much damage to you & can be recovered from more quickly, which is one of the reasons why trash dies much quicker to reflect than bosses.
Unless they changed it, % reflect only applies to hits, not DoTs.
In 0.9.2 I had an FG with manifest armor and shield doing reflect. The only source of that was basically just idols.
That build died in 1.0 not so much because of changes to minion reflect but because of the rebuke nerf.
Still, Lagon is always much much slower to kill with reflect than every other boss. And that would be because the tentacles don’t attack that fast.
Most of the stuff hitting you in that fight don’t actually reflect on the boss bar because they’re not triggered by the “boss”, which are actually the tentacles. All of Lagon’s abilities and all the waves don’t help you, so it ends up being a much slower and boring fight with reflect.
The chest requires level 35, I hope it’s not difficult to get, whether it’s bought or dropped, but the build will work as soon as you have it and then the shield is not a difficult one although it can be a bit delayed if you’re unlucky.
In a paladin you can start with the sword and warpath and smite, while you take the core of the objects
Personally, I think it should work better for Spriggan reflect. It was already pretty decent in 1.2 (it was by far the best reflect build) and simply slapping this on will multiply it’s damage by a lot.
It can even kill lizards by itself, though that will require you to move past them so they can be “facing you”.
I used to kill the lizards with the plants and with a little patience. That’s true, when they went out a lot, the truth is that some escaped.
edit:I also want to play it as a paladin because I played it too many times as a druid.
Aaron made a variant of the Spriggan reflect using storm bolts solely for killing them. It worked ok. But with this, you don’t need anything else, other than moving in front of them.
% reflect works on all damage taken. The problems come from it is after defense so for it to matter you need high percentages for it to matter. Most reflect builds have a decent amount of 2-300% which melts Lagon if your defenses are strong enough.
% reflect is negligible in Lagon’s fight. And that is because the high damage hits you take are done by Lagon himself (which has no health bar and isn’t hit by reflect), not the tentacles. Only the tentacle attacks get reflected and actually decrease the health bar and they don’t do much damage.
The damage is not negligible. If you build thorns in both forms Lagon become a very easy fight. I always build it at least once every season and I have not died once until empowered if I am actually trying to die. % reflect is all about understanding that damage reflected can be scaled and that is what should be focused. You can test it yourself. Thorns is very strong and has only gotten stronger.
That is because of the flat reflect, not because of the % reflect.
I know because I had a build with only % reflect during 0.9.2 and Lagon was the slowest be far. And that is because the only attacks that trigger reflect are the tentacles, which have low damage. The high damage attacks come from Lagon himself and those aren’t reflected, either with % or flat.
So if you only have % reflect on a Lagon fight, it will take over 30 minutes to finish.
The only thing that makes the Lagon fight easy with reflect is flat reflect. And even then it’s slower than other boss fights because, as I said, only the tentacle attacks trigger reflect damage, vs other bosses where every attack triggers it.
It’s very unobjective and downright ridiculous to put 4 LP on rings. Lucky you if you get one with 1 LP. Besides, it has nothing to do with the build being discussed. That would be for playing with shield throws, not passively. And 4 T7s? I’ve never seen an item with that
