Fix the graphics and character animations and this will be one of the top ARPG’s. If this gets neglected it will fail.
Do a simple forum search, you’d already know the answer.
Graphics are fine imo. Particularly in the Ancient Era. The animations do need some work though, but the devs have already stated that animation improvements are happening.
I’d rather play a game like this where graphics are not top notch but gameplay is there. If you want to play an indie arpg where they used their limited resources to focus on graphics go play wolcen.
Saying things like “fix the graphics” is like telling them to spend an extra 5000 man hours on the game . I hope they have higher priorities on their limited budget.
Without giving them any useful guidance on what you don’t like about the graphics…
Honestly, I think the graphics and animations here are great and only need some tweaking … but I’m not a graphics guy . I play these games for the gameplay not the graphics . If a game with diablo 2 type graphics came out today but had depth and was addicting and fun id buy it in a heartbeat .
My opinion on graphics for last epoch is graphics are fine . Focus on getting out content and making skills and builds fun and exciting .
Yeah, IMO the graphics are “ok”, certainly nowhere near as good as Wolcen. The animations do vary quite a bit in quality though, and some animations look a lot better with more attack speed (eg, Rive, looks a lot more fluid with decent attack speed).
The Primalist’s Swipe looks awesome, especially if you chain the attacks & every other Swipe is backhanded. But then you have Serpent Strike which just looks a bit plain in all honesty, if the bite animation wasn’t so blocky that would be nicer.
the gameplay is good, but what makes the gameplay really good? in fact, it is a set of factors, what he meant, is that it is YES necessary to have an increase in the graphic quality and in the animations of the character and especially of the skills which is the key point of the game. so let’s not be hypocritical in thinking that what you think is good for you would be good for the other too. Each person has their definition of good gameplay, more performance is lacking, graphics, improved animations however the game is in Beta, and the developers are working very hard to make the game with more content possible for now, I hope and I think that in the future there will be rather a significant improvement in graphics and animations. What we have left is we have patience, even because it is a small team, I would advise to make a better disclosure, so more players will acquire the game with a higher revenue and greater resources.
The game still isn’t even playable to me. I thought after the last patch it finally was but nope, I get to the desert area and the performance tanks once again.
In terms of the overall graphics quality I think there still is some potential. I’d like to see more details on character models and monsters. Lighning and textures are getting better from patch to patch (performance also). The overhaul of the ship was awesome. The rainy atmosphere on the deck and the lightning / shadows is very good. Transfer this to other places and it will be fine.
My only concern is the feel if combat right now. Many skills lack the feeling of impact. There need to be more different sounds, hit feedback on jobs and death animations (related on the damage type that deals the killing blow).
I also want to have visible effects on my char when he gets a buff. Some skills have effects, many do not.
At beta, I feel Last Epoch has way more substance, depth and dynamic than Wolcen. Sure, Wolcen is a pretty game but it’s lacking something. I really cannot put my finger on it at the moment. I am only in act 2. The game feels, boring. Last epoch has more depth, diversity and substance. What I really like about is the amount of care the developers are giving each and every skill. I like ARPG’s with minion focused skill trees and Last Epoch seems to be fulfilling that desire rather nicely. I will admit, I am rather narrow minded in my play style. I tend to lean toward minions skills. In Wolcen, Minions are trash.
I have to disagree. Wolcen offers the possibility of cool hybrid builds. Story also is at least ok. Presentation is superb. Skills don’t seem to be as diverse.
Both games go different ways but I like both very much.
At least EHG can learn from Wolcen and avoid some mistakes and also copy what’s done well.
One thing that Wolcen does very well is the fashion aspect. I don’t need to change the appearance of any item, but I like to have more diversity in item skins in LE.
Character animations also could profit of some style. I would not bother if the animation would get pimped. Add some martial arts moves to the melee skills and more theatrical moves to magic skills. Something like dr. strange.
Great!
Most items in LE are just place holders atm when it comes to art and looks. All you seek will be granted in the future.
why are you so sure?
Its been talked about before. Cosmetics and fashion are the leadt of there worries right now but will be worked on later
In this post its mentioned how purchasable MTX wont happen until launch or so
and heres where item appearance in game is talked about.
Graphics and animations have been updated plenty of times since the first KS demo. I’m sure they will keep updating in the future.
Thx for the info.
I don’t question the priority. It’s alright to do the eye candy at the end of development.
It is just one the few weak points of this game so far. And a very huge amount of players will only just look at the graphics before even considering to get to know something about mechanics and content.
The look is the very first impression.
Heyo!
Thanks for the feedback thus far.
Graphical improvements typically come in the form of us doing a pass on particular aspects of the game - it may be textures, post-processing, ambient occlusion, etc. While individual assets are sometimes tweaked outside of these, it’s looking likely that our next pass on graphics will focus on lighting. I’m not able to offer an ETA for these changes landing just yet, but we’ve some changes internally that we’re super excited to show off in the future!
From an optimization standpoint, we’ve been creating new shaders for outside zones which are more performant - and these have resulted in some subtle visual improvements, too!
We’ve been working on new sound effects - currently, a lot of the work is focusing on new assets for the emergence and deaths of enemies, but we do plan to make significant improvements to our on-hit sound effects as well. We very highly value good on-hit sounds.
Animation improvements are planned (and are on our roadmap).
MTX are very likely to be implemented prior to launch. As with any system, this is something we’ll want to be collecting feedback and bug reports for prior to releasing Patch 1.0.

I’m excited! I hope they are not all like the super subtle types in the early stages of POE devt
