GPU Fans Spiking to 100% for a couple of seconds

As the title says. GPU = RTX 3080

The game runs perfectly fine, my temps are below 70 degrees. My GPU fans will spike to 100% speed for a few seconds every couple of minutes before going back to normal. This can happen frequently when opening inventory, the shop etc. And it’s just happened whilst the game is minimized and i’m typing this…

Things i’ve tried:

Gsync on/off
Vsync on/off
Capping FPS ingame and on Nvidia Control Panel.
Full Screen and Borderless window mode.
MSI Afterburner Fan curve.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? It’s very frustrating. I’ve reduced my GPU fan curve quite a bit, as by default this game was making them pretty loud almost instantly. There was a noticeable difference in speed/volume when minimizing the game. As soon as the game was in focus again the fans kicked back in.

I’m running the game at a capped 120 fps as I have a 144hz monitor and do not wish to reduce it any lower, I don’t have to for any other game.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have the exact same problem for months now with a 2070. Tried many settings, nothing seems to help this issue. I’ve read multiple posts about this problem.

So, I decided to check my temps using HWinfo, my GPU temps were fine at around 60-70degrees, however, I noticed my ‘Hotspot’ temp was around 100.

I decided to take my 3080 apart to find that the Thermal compound had dried. I reapplied some Arctic Silver and the hotspot temp has dropped by 20, my fans now seem to be much quieter and I have yet to notice a spike.

The issue seemed to occur after the game had been running for a little while so I will need to test further to see if the issue has resolved. Strange thing is, I don’t get this issue with any other game.
