When I turn vsync off my CPU’s temp shoots up to 90/95 degrees celcius and my GPU up to 70/80 degrees celcius.
When it’s on the temps go back to normal (around 40 degrees).
This happens to me too.
I had stopped playing LE since months ago because of the ridiculous amount of GPU usage and temperatures (even on minimum graphics), but I’ve just checked and my vsync was indeed off. Turning it on drops everything back down to reasonable values.
that is completly normal and expected behavior as vsync limits the fps.
when its unlocked (vsync and fps limit off) your pc computes as many frames as it can handle resulting in a high usage and higher temps.
I’ve never had this happen before in any game I played.
Also, I don’t have my fps limiter set to unlimited, it’s maxed on 60 fps, since I don’t have a better monitor, it’s useless to set it higher.
Yip. Known issue - probably related to the fact that the game optimisation is not yet where it needs to be - its improving every patch but its a ways off still.
As Febra said, your system will attempt to render at its max if you dont artificially limit it and due to the lack of optimisation, this can EASILY overload a GPU & CPU - especially if they are older models. Whille not obvious, LE is also a very CPU intensive game at the moment (again optimisation) and this can cause problems for older CPUs.
Vsync is a great way to limit the FPS and as it matches your monitor “speed” it seems like a logical thing to keep on all the time as it also stops things like screen tearing. There are some issues with fps limiting using the settings - e.g. background fps doesnt seem to work properly - so its best to vsync it for now. Obviously, your setup might work on the fps limiting setting but vsync definitely works.
You should also consider changing the graphics settings (various items) to lower settings to reduce load on the GPU and see how this affects things. Some people have had great benefits from changing anti-aliasing / shadows etc. but its all very dependant on your individual setup so you have to test around. Others have also found that changing things in the graphics driver config itself help more than in-game. Personally, I have adjusted my GPU fan curve to keep my old 1060 cooler while playing…
