Game randomly changes graphics settings

Hey devs!

Just a message here to let you know of something odd happening here. I have the graphics set to low as I’m currently running windows in bootcamp on a Mac, despite having an upgraded graphics card and can run settings at a slightly higher setting.

I’ll be playing and then randomly the screen will freeze for a few seconds and then my frame rate just dies, goes to 1-5 fps. I was seriously frustrated until I realize that the graphics looked a lot better, despite the unplayable fps.

Sure enough, despite my graphics settings saying low, I changed it to a different setting, saved and back to the low setting and all is well again.

But this keeps happening! Just thought you should know, not sure if anyone else is having this issue.

Cheers!

Alataks

Thank you very much for the report!

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience, but if this happens again, would you be able to post your graphics. INI file? It would help us a lot to know whether its contents have been changed. You should be able to attach it to a forum post using the button.

Will do, thanks for the link

Still enjoying the game quite a lot thus far!

Thanks, Sarno.

Glad to hear it!

Thank you very much for supporting us, we really do appreciate it.

Anytime – looking forward to seeing the finished product

Follow up question: I have followed the guide (as it’s just happened again) but I don’t have the following path on my computer in my users folder:

(User)\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch

Would this be different if I purchased/play through Steam? I’m in my user folder, but there’s not AppData sub folder to click on.

Cheers!

It should definitely be there regardless of whether you use Steam or the standalone client.

Could you try setting Windows to show hidden files and folders?

Bingo, thanks again Sarno – been a long time since I did anything technical on Windows (slowly coming back to me after being Mac for so long).

See attached file!

Awesome, thanks!

Could I just check if you got this file between the bug occurring and you changing the settings back? It does show the settings as still being set to Very Low, which would mean that the game isn’t resetting the contents or the file or replacing it with a default one, but is still failing to adhere to it. Just trying to make sense as it would help point us in the wrong direction, sorry.

I have still not gone through my process to change it to a different setting and back, no.

I have logged in and let it stay where my character is (I’m working right now and was going to play here and there but got busy, so haven’t had a chance, but the last time I looked in on it after loading it up, it had gone from smooth to laggy FPS and the graphics look like they’re set high.

I just grabbed a screenshot of my settings in game along with how the graphics look – you’ll note that on the right, the graphics are definitely not ‘very low’ lol (image LEpoch1) and then I adjusted the settings up to low and the graphics appeared to actually go back to low on the right (LEpoch2 image)

Super strange!

Hey, Sarno!

Just an update here, as I’ve had a few more issues with this but I think I’ve narrowed down what seems to trigger this happening.

It seems to happen when I tab out of game and then back into game (not every time). I run my game as max windowed so I can tab in/out as needed. It happens regardless of whether I’m exclusive full screen or max windowed.

Also, I’ve noticed that even when running on ultra graphics settings this happens. I have to always change the setting and then change it back and the problem is fixed. Very strange!

Cheers,

Alataks.
