Game crashes on entering new zone

Game crashes on entering new zone.
Not every time but pretty often.
If to be precise, zone changes correctly. It loads so I can see it and my character. But than game freezes… and that’s it. Sometimes I have time to make a step or two, and only after the crash appears.

P.S. I haven’t played LE for some time, few months probably. But I had no such issues earlier.

I’ve been experiencing this lately also. The last few times I noticed it it seemed to be on the Lakeside Trail map.

Hey @JustLoveHnS and Welcome to the forums @Solryn

If you check the Technical section you will see similar issues… With LE in beta, there are performance and stability issues but thankfully there are a variety of possible fixes:

  1. Make 100% sure that your files are not corrupted - if playing through Steam this is easy using the file integrity checking option…

  2. Make sure your system is patched OS wise and that all the drivers (not just graphics drivers) are up to date. Please dont just use windows to check… Visit Nvidia or AMD to check for new drivers.

  3. Make sure your system is not having any hardware or other issues like overclocking problems or overheating etc that can be causing instability.

  4. A lot of people have found that dialling back the LE in-game settings helps improve stability… If LE is left on higher settings without any limiting on the GPU, it can get particularly unstable. It is recommended that anyone with stability issues, temporarily try the following:

  • Change resolution to 1080p, set in-game foreground framerate limit to 60fps (not vsync), change all settings to very low or disabled.
  • Test for stability… If its stable, then increase the resolution to what you want to play at.
  • Test for stability… If its stable, then increase the framerate limit to whatever your monitor can handle or LESS. Obviously if your system cannot keep up the fps to the monitor speed (e.g. 120fps) then set it to whatever your system can handle - - do not leave it unlimited.
  • Test for stability. If its stable, then increase the in-game settings one at a time from very low to a higher setting… Test between changes… Its recommended that if you are having stability issues that you dont go above Medium in-game settings and be aware of settings like antialising & shadows that are fps killers.

I did not want to do one more subject but I am in the same situation as the author.
I would like to point out that the problem appeared during the last patch of April 13. I have also checked my files and nothing is detected. (updated drivers etc).
Do you know if the teams are aware of the problem (given the number of people who have the same problem)?

Hey. Welcome to the forums…

Yes, the devs know about these issues and there are updates every so often that include performance changes… However, the devs have not specifically committed to performance and stability fixes yet - the guess is that they simply dont have a big enough team to deal with the demand for content completion, bugs & balancing & multiplayer AND deal with performance issues.

So for now, we work around the problems as best we can. 90% of the time most people that post their problems can get the game working “well enough” to enjoy until the devs can resolve the issues. The numbers of forum posts are miniscule compared to the number of players at the moment so its not like the game is unplayable for everyone and the devs need to stop everything to fix.

Crashes are difficult to deal with but are usually caused by two main things - corruption of game or player files - which tend to happen when the game crashes in a vicious circle and people trying to play LE in its current beta state at settings that their hardware should be able to handle but the game cannot yet.

If you have attempted all the options above (including option 4) and are still having hassles then I recommend you post your system information, in-game settings & game logs so that we can try and see if what else is happening.

Thank you for the quick response and the details on the development of the game.
I have indeed already tested the differents solutions, I will uninstall / reinstall the game as a last resort, I hope this solves my problem !

No need to uninstall reinstall. Steam file verification usually sorts things out that a reinstall would address. Post your details first… it may be something obvious…

I specify that I have just reinstalled the game, without effect. I play in medium settings and use a filter.

Hey… you dont provide your system info so i’ll have to guess about that… the devs that see this will be able to get some info from the logs…

A few things:

You are using vsync not framerate limiting in the settings - vsync doesnt seem to work as well when it comes to stability as the foreground framerate setting. try that instead.

Background framerate setting is wonky… it doesnt always work properly. devs know about this one.

You are using a 1060… I have the same card and I run at 1080p, 60fps framerate limited with everything on very low or disabled - very stable (like 2 or 3 crashes at those settings in over 700h of play). I CAN play on Ultra with about 40fps but my GPU maxes out immediately and the game will usually start behaving badly after a little while - spikes etc - and obviously things start to get toasty. I can easily run on Medium but the graphic quality difference btween medium and low/very low is not really that noticeable for me during play… I prefer the improved FPS and lower GPU usage/heat.

Did you try on these reduced settings to see if it stops crashing or did you just select the ones you are using now - i.e. did you try the steps? A lot of people have found that going very low gets them past the crash, then they change back to medium if they want.

What filter are you running?

Are you running any other applications at the same time as LE? There are some apps that have caused problems with other players… obscure things like Citrix and Teamviewer and more normal things like Steam Overlays…

I have tried all the options you advised me, none of them work. I have to admit that I haven’t had any fps issues so far so I don’t really see the connection between the game crashing every time zone change / teleport to a new zone and some graphics options. I also tested without the overlay of steam or open apps.

I thank you nevertheless for taking the time to help me. I’m just a little frustrated, I bought the game a year ago: it was literally unplayable regardless of the graphics options. I take it again this week and after 2 days of play, it crashes in a loop. I think I would wait for a more successful version of the game…

DxDiag.txt (123.9 KB)

Thanks for the dxdiag… .it gives much more information… like the fact that you are using a laptop - which makes finding the problems even harder because the manufacturers do their own proprietary things…

There is definitely a link between graphics settings & instability - thats 100% confirmed… How these problems present on different hardware is the complicated issue…

If you have followed the step by step suggestions EXACTLY and tested on the 1080p/60fps framelimited with everything on very low or disabled and its still crashing then there is something else happening on your system.

A few things to try:

  • Can you monitor the CPU, GPU temps and usage? Openhardware monitor or hwmonitor etc… If things are maxing out or overheating then this is a very real reason for instability. Run LE on higher settings or you could run things like Prime95,Cinebench/Furmark etc to stress your system.

  • You did a reinstall so a steam file verification should not be needed - I would make sure you do this after any crash as files do get corrupted.

  • is your laptop Bios up to date?

  • the CPU in your laptop is on 2.5ghz with a boost to 3.5 so its not the fastest when it comes to sustained CPU intensive issues - make sure that you are not doing anything else on your system while playing LE.

  • There are a few people having trouble on systems with embedded graphics on the older CPUs (especally laptops). Disabling the CPU graphics in BIOS sometimes helps. If it cannot be disabled, then making sure that its own drivers are up to date (yours are 2018) can also help and that it is not used when LE runs. It shouldnt have an effect as the game should be using the 1060, but drivers can cause problems so its worth trying and laptops dont always tell the user what they are doing.

  • Laptops have their own special tricks to keep heating & performance balanced and these can cause problems - especially with beta applications that are CPU & GPU intensive like LE currently is. Laptop performance settings etc, could be trying to prevent LE from overloading the system & this could be increasing the instability. I would suggest you check the laptop settings to see if it is overwriting anything set in game - graphics settings, performance settings around the gpu and power/heat. etc.

  • Your dxdiag is showing lots of Windows Store update problems (end of the file)… It looks like your system is updated to the latest OS patch but any errors need to be checked. It may be that the OS is updating, but other things may be failing.

  • The player logs are showing dxd11 errors… Re-installing DirectX might help - especially if there is a corrupted file somewhere.

At the moment, if nothing I have already suggested is working then I would recommend you consider waiting until the game is released before trying it again…

Maybe you could try after each major patch, to see if things have improved…

Played several hours on 1920x1080 LOWEST settings (had 60 fps). Some more on 1920x1080 HIGH settings (60 fps). And now I playing again on 2560x1440 HIGH (60 fps). Sooo… changing settings helped me. And now I have no crashes on the same settings I initially had.

Still have no idea what caused those crashes, but now I have a recipe to deal with them  . Thank you @vapourfire ! :+1:
