As the title suggests, I’m stuck looking at the Account Login screen with nothing on it. Just says Switch User, the game is also frozen but I can still hear the main menu music.

Hey, Welcome to the forums…
Please can you post your relevant information - its pretty hard to help without it…
In the meanwhile… Please make sure to do the following:
Make sure your OS is patched
Make sure that your graphics card drivers are recent - something in the last 2 to 3 months - do not use the latest and greatest drivers as these are usually unstable. This is especially important if you are not using a new gpu card.
Verify the game files through Steam - this is very important to make sure that your install actually worked properly.
Make sure you can login with your account on Last Epoch. https://lastepoch.com/player/account/overview
Cannot help much more than that without your info & game logs.
Verified found nothing. OS is updated to latest and so are my Graphics Drivers.
Here are the files you wanted.
Player.log (10.0 KB)
le_graphicsmanager.ini (483 Bytes)
I don’t seem to have a LauncherLog.txt file.
You didnt include your DXdiag.
I didn’t deem it necessary, I already know my Windows & Graphics drivers are up to date. My system has no current issues.
Thats a pretty odd attitude to take when a stranger is trying to help you but ok… I will have to explain rather than just check the info myself.
Do NOT use the latest graphics driver on an old 1070 Ti card… There are plenty of problems with the newest Nvidia drivers - case in point driver 466.77 causes major problems with 30 series cards having half black screens in LE… You need to use something fairly recent but NOT the latest and greatest.
The settings you are using are FAR too high for your the 1070 ti you are using… Very High & Ultra mode is VERY unstable and the game WILL crash at this setting for your hardware. I would recommend Low to Medium settings for your 1070 (obviously I have no idea about the capabilities of the rest of your system) and limiting the foreground FPS framerate to probably something like 60-70 fps. If you leave it as you have on 200 fps - your GPU will very easily max out its usage and the game will be very unstable and potentially crash when you try to load a map or new zone or you will experience odd freezes for a few seconds. The default test config is 1080p, framerate limit to 60fps, all in-game settings to very low or disabled - this setting is the most stable for anyone having game crashes as a way to test if the problem is graphical.
The end of the dxdiag file will show the diagnostics of your system - including the LE crashes with more info specially. It also contains anything else that could need attention and possibly affect LE in some way or another - eg drivers that are crashing etc. which all then help direct the investigation as to what is potentially happening… As you havent provided this I cannot check it.
You need to make sure that you are not running anything else while trying to play LE… temporarily as a test, disable or do not run any other applications. This include obvious things like streaming or graphic overlays (like steam/nvidia) and it also includes things that might seem irrelevant… LE has had problems with things like Citrix/Teamviewer in the past so its best to leave everything off for testing.
I understand you’re just trying to help
I’m aware that using the latest graphics drivers can cause issues, although with the games I’ve played and the applications I’ve used my card has been fine throughout.
I set my FPS high and then when I’m in the game fiddle with the settings to give the best “bang for my buck” I understand that the game will not run at 200 FPS.
I checked if it was a compatibility issue, closed all other programs etc etc. My DirectX Diagnostic Tool had no issues, problems or driver failures.
Unless the game prerenders the map into my GPU, it’s not anything to do with my hardware.
System Specifications
I forgot to mention I reran the game multiple times on different settings,
Lowest settings, Highest settings. Doesn’t matter result is the same. I’ll try an older Graphics driver.
Ok…
It doesnt really matter what other games are working fine… LE is in beta and has lots of performance optimisation issues that can be exacerbated by using bleeding edge and potentially less than stable drivers.
It has nothing to do with bang for your buck… LE is unoptimised and if you push the settings it gets unstable… It has nothing to do with the capabilities of your hardware and everything to do with the state of the game. Even players using threadrippers & 3080s have reported that they find the game much more stable if they are conservative with their in-game settings…
Look, without seeing the last section of the dxdiag txt export file I am just going to have to accept your word for it…
Both of these are the things I would have seen in the dxdiag too… LE does NOT like overclocked components - especially if you try and play the game at high fps or high settings like you are… if you monitor your system you will see that LE can MAX out the GPU in a heart beat and this will mean that it runs in the redline so any hiccup in the unoptimised game code can crash the GPU because it has zero headroom to deal with the issue.
Ok… so this is not the first time you are trying to play and this means that something has changed on your system that is likely the cause of this issue…
No this is indeed my first time playing, I bought the game and installed it today. The game seems to have a lot of current performance issues hey? I’ll also try reverting my clocks to see if that has any result.
Is there a particular Graphics Driver you would recommend? These are the usual drivers I use 399.24, 417.22 and 418.81. I decided to see if using the latest drivers was feasible.
But you were able to get into the game on the default settings the first time?
This could mean that something went west with the config files - this does happen if the game crashes… You could backup the last epoch folder, remove it and then run the steam verification again and then try and launch the game and see what happens - this will effectively reset everything… be sure to backup first as it has your savegames.
There are lots of performance related issues - its a beta… Just wait till you get to summon 100 minions all proccing aoe effects… slideshow time… Thankfully they are all known problems and for now we just have to workaround the issues… The small dev teams are so busy with multiplayer that optimisation issues are playing second fiddle right now.
I would not change your overclocks yet… I would limit the game to the lowest test setting first and see what happens.
I run a 1060 and I am still using 461.40 which is pretty old now… I figure anything from earlier this year should be ok - just definitely not the last bunch…
I have already tried using lowest settings (see above).
I wasn’t able to get into the game at all, regardless if I was on default settings or not.
Yeah I can definitely imagine with that many meshes and effects loading it would chuck your FPS and stress your system.
Okay so I’ve located the issue, it turns out it was a net issue this whole time. At least that’s what it seems like, after swapping out my Modem for a third party alternative the issue has gone away and I’m now able to log into the game and everything works fine.
Thanks for helping Vapourfire.
Thats a pretty odd one… Maybe there was some sort of cache in your modem/router that was preventing the game from getting to the EHG login servers.
There have been others that had DNS request issues with their upstream providers that caused problems with the initial login process - those were solved by changing their DNS nameservers to googles (8.8.8.8)… Maybe your issue was similar and replacing the hardware changed this…
Glad this is solved tho… version 0.9 is multiplayer so you dont want network issues when that drops.
