Frustratingly unplayable due to damage spikes

From looking at your builds on LE tools, I do think the defences are very low and that is why you’re struggling. There wa a bug that was making monsters do too much damage, but once that got fixed your defences are still too low so you’ve not really seen any difference since the patch.

I like to make tanky characters to make up for my lack of mechanical skill, just to put it in perspective, you’re VK’s max phys hit he can take is less than 3k. My Beastmaster’s max phys hit he can take is 65k

I’m not saying this to show off, I just want you to see how low your defences really are, and it is why you’re having such a hard time finding gear.

My honest advice would be to drop to lvl 90 monoliths and farm up some rare gear, then work your way up from there.

Again like i said to u before with ur warlock build for this season. Ur VK from last season has none of its resist capped at all. That right there is ur first problem.

Dont go blaming the game when the build is the issue. That being ir defenses this is a u issue not the game.

Heres a screen shot of ur res on ur VK from last season.

Thats an image sharing host link since we cant post screen shots on this form.

Looking at ur marksmen from last season u have physical and posion res over 100% the rest not even close to capped which cap is 75. Ur void res is 0

U want an explanation as to why u keep getting clapped this is why ur lacking defenses

Ur beastmaster is from the looks of it the only one u pretty much res capped but are also lacking in defenses in other areas

Ignoring defenses will get u clapped especially in empowered.

The problem isnt the game the issue is sitting right between the monitor and the chair.

You need EHP against oneshots.
Only stuff that 100% of the time works and is always up can be considered. If it is conditional, at some point you will get hit while the condition does not trigger (block, crit avoidance, close to the enemy, have used vengeance recently, etc)

HP or a high ward is crucial. It’s your baseline on which you survive. Every other damage reduction works as a factor for multiplication on that for EHP.

12% resistance means you will take 1.62 times the damage from that damage type. Worse, if your resistance got shredded by some enemy.

Armour works against hits, but is less effective against non-physical damage. I always forget if that is 2/3 or 3/4 or whatever. So 40% could be 30% against void.

Flat DR like -15% damage taken is always great. Each instance of damage taken is multiplied separately.

So, my advice:

  • Max ALL your resistances. Weaver idols are quite good for this these days.
  • Increase your maxHP significantly. Flat HP and percentage HP. Exalteds or even rares are often better than uniques if you don’t have legendaries that give you exactly what you need.
  • Get 100% crit avoidance or 80+ crit damage reduction.
  • If you want to play with a shield as a reliable source of DR, do 100% block chance or skip the shield. Same for glancing blow.
  • do not rely on dodge or parry against one-shots
  • Move out of the way of big attacks with a significant telegraph. You won’t survive by design without a huge eHP pool against one-shots.

I have basically skipped 1.2 because lagging servers and other priorities drove me off. I returned for 1.3 in full offline, but I play without editing anything. I noted the damage spikes in 1.3 because I died when I didn’t expect to die. Patch 1.3.1 solved that.

First I played a very tanky forge guard. Kinda sub-par damage, but siege golem nukes felt like a luke warm breeze. Harbingers killed me with hits that other sentinels that I played in the past would have survived - that was the bugged damage, I guess.

I played a few squishier characters a bit - shaman, rogue - and even my squishier characters don’t take 8k damage spikes in 100c monoliths. Not even Emperor of Corpses nuke that killed my rogue when my wife distracted me had 8k damage taken.

You want advice?

Then have it for your VK since I know how to build VK, and then I recommend to shut up with your incessent whining and bitching, you’re dragging that around through the whole Forum, you’re absolutely insufferable, a disgrace for any reasonable behaviour.

But here goes anyway:

Void Knight focus:

You’ve got Warpath, Vengeance and Erasing Strike. Either go with Warpath of Erasing Strike, Vengeance is useless for you anyway, not the core focus of your build.

Also the focus of your build is not clear, are you a DoT focus or a direct-hit focus? Pick either, noth both.

Passives:

Base Class:
20 points in base class, not more unless it’s extremely powerful. 42 points is a massive waste.
6 points Juggernaut
8 points Fearless
1 Point Stalward
5 points Armor Clad

Especially remove Gladiator, 9% extra damage taken for not going dual-wield is just nonsense.

Void Knight:
5 points Abyssal Endurance
5 points Sorrow and Steel
5 points Void Corruption (it’s your biggest multiplier for damage to crit)
5 points Dark Maw (sustain)
5 points doom knight (More armor is good and strength is direct damage.
6 points Woe
5 points singular Purpose
1 point Essence of the End
3 points Echoing Strike
5 points Eternal Form
1 Point Void Well
5 points Dread Form
5 Points Abyssal Fluctuation
4 points Mortal Cleave

Finish by maxing Mortal Cleave, as many points in Time Legion and Eternal Form as possible, after the other classes.

Paladin:
5 points Defiance
10 Points Valor (very defensive node)

For skills my recommendation is:
Erasing Strike
Devouring Orbs
Anomaly
Abyssal Echoes
Symbols of Hope

That’s the ‘classic’ VK, extremely tanky, extremely strong in offense.

Idols:
Exactly 2 1x4 idols
One with increased damage when echoed + chance to shred armour (either/or is fine until you find a fitting one)
The other with increased damage when echied + void damage (also either/or fine)

All others? Minor Weaver Idols. Mana, Health, Endurance, res as needed.

Gear:
A helmet with as much Armor as possible, Focus on either crit reduction (very important) or level of devouring Orb.
Health/Mana/Res secondary there.
Amulet is a Bleeding Heart
Weapon is Time Splitter since it synergizes the most.
Armor is Titan heart, 15%DR is the strongest thing you can get, without conditions.
Use a Siphon of Anguish Because of pen, leech and movement speed. LP for Strength and Mana regen if possible.
Flames of Midnight for the other ring.
Shattered Chains for the belt. Hybrid Health for LP.
Gloves are any you want as long as they at least have T5 crit reduction and T5 attack speed.
Darkstride for boots as it provides movement speed for flat void damage.
Anchor of Oblivion for defenses and extra damage. Scales well.

Skills:
Devouring Orb:
1 Dark Moon
1 Abyssal Rush
1 Cosmic Impact
4 Sightless Star
3 Void Adept
4 Abyssal Juggernaut
1 Hollow Orb
1 Abyssal Emission
4 Rending the Maw

Above 20 use em to finish Void Adept
More then 22 is not really useful, if you got more though Chaotic Torrent is not entirely useless.

Erasing Strike:
2 Merciful
5 Erasure of the Living
1 Time Loop
1 Shattered Continuity
1 Champer of Faith
2 Obliteration
3 Prophet’s Onlsaught
3 Essence of the End

Above 20 the next 6 points go into
3 Dust to the Wind
2 Rifts of Decay
1 Final Hour

Anything beyond finished Obliteration

Anomaly:
1 Void Touched
1 Immediacy
4 Exacerbate
4 Mark of Rot
1 Time Bubble
4 Decimation
4 Temporal Mastery
1 Time Lord

Beyond 20 Finish Exacerbate and Mark of Rot
Anything beyond those finish the other nodes, then Emission

Symbols of Hope:
3 Quiet Mind
4 Empowering Symbols
4 Celestial Concentration
5 Heavenly Justice
3 Decree of Flame
1 Symbols of Despair

Anything above 20 into Iron Symbols

Healing Hands:
3 Cleric’s Hammer
1 Rahyeh’s Chariot
1 Sun Shroud
1 Searing Light
1 Purity of Thought
3 Blessed Parish
2 Prayer of the Fallen
1 Urgent Healing
2 Cleric’s Wrath
1 Virtue of Patience
1 Seraph’s Blade
1 Bane of Evil
1 Halted Scourge
1 Turn Undead

Beyond 20 play around.

Blessings:

Grand Strength of Mind
Grand Whisper of Orobyss
Grand Bastion of Divinity
Grand resolve of Humanity
Grand Bulwark of the Tundra
Grand Embers of Imortality

Switch out whenever anything is maxed out with anything else useful instead.

General Stuff:

Use build guides until you learn what is important and what not, you have literally no clue about itemization. So use that crutch until you don’t need it.

Learn what Affixes are important.

Use your Gold to shatter items to build up shards of all types.

Stop whining and bitching before learning the basics.

Here you go… that should be more then enough workable advice for you.

Mind you, what I shared is massively better then what you have and still only a mediocre build in total.

No it wasnt. Where in the patch notes does it state they increased the difficulty of campaign globally?

All they did was increase area lvl of normal monos

Heres a link to the campaign section in patch nots for 1.3

Not one thing said about increasing campaign difficulty globally. That was all pure mob dmg scaling bug

Though not documented In the patch notes, devs have mentioned the mobs get a generic power increase with each major patch to help mitigate power creep.

It was mentioned I one of the hype week interviews from 1.2 but can’t remember the specific one it was mentioned In.

No again its not the game. Build here u speak of is ur beastmaster from last season.

As one pointed out with ur VK ur EHP is too low same with ur BM. Ur res for this build is sitting pretty good. Except ur lacking in other defense layers.

Honestly u ever stop and think perhaps its not actually the game. But a build issue.

U seem to circle back to its the game like ur hand waving away the issue when Many are trying to help u as well as saying its ur build not the game. Reason some of us are saying that is…

FYI we all can see everyone of ur builds in LEtools. In case u didnt know.

Im calling BS on only having died 3 times with ur VK build. Not one of ur res with this build is capped. I even linked a screen shot of it in a reply to u.

Not. Buy this i only died 3 times with that build with ur res not even capped not one.

“I only died 3 times” would suggest that everything is fine with the game. Can’t be too bad if that statement is true.

Nobody gives a shit about a compaing. We are talking about monos starting from 60+lv. And it is not just base lvl increase. it is a significant overall damage increase that was not covered in patchnotes.

If average player does not understand how several layers of defences work it is clearly a game fault, not his.

If a player dies in average gear on 60-70lv without corruption. It is a game fault, not building defences. For some random miracle I do not die on early maps in poe2 with a junk gear. Because this contend is meant to farm gear. The balance issue atm is that you need more advanced gear to progress in a content which should provide you with this gear. On all levels. It is the same for 60lv and 80kv+100 corruption. it is even worse if you consider some character without merc faction.

No, it is a game issue and it is still here.

Nobody complains because they left the game. 80% playerbase drop after 10 days. 10 more days and there will be around 1k diehards like you. Good luck with this approach.

If you as a average player start up Factorio and complain about needing to math out ratios and build in a efficient manner… would you complain that it’s the game’s fault?

There’s games which are set up to not need player knowledge… and then there’s games which need a bit… some a lot… and some are so cryptic you need to have a very very special inclination to reveal the secrets it holds.

D3/D4 basically hand-feed you. Last Epoch needs you to turn on your brain. PoE demands attention and seeking information out yourself and a game like Noita will cause you to miss out about the majority of the existing content unless you literally use the wiki and guides as no individual would be able to solve the obscure riddles in there. Heck… there’s one existing which might not be solved even now but people are unsure about it, several years after release with a very didicated and large userbase which went so far as to use ciphers, binary codes and all other sorts of convoluted stuff together to try and solve one of those riddles.

In the state of 0.3?

Kudos to you, because the world’s best speedrunners and the world’s best HC players actually do.

You should go into competitions there, they’re rewarding since you’re so good.

This circles right back to defenses. With this its pretty clear u dont seem to understand defense layers in LE

Actually there is. Lets us the above which i quoted. Using ur lvl 85 warlock from this season

X rare u had no issues with say was doing lightning dmg Ur defense with X rare where fine to survive it. Ur ur lightning res is capped

With Y rare u get creamed. This one say was doing void dmg as well as some crits. U got clapped in this example because ur void res is only 13% and barley have any crit avoid

Ever stop to think that X rare did a different dmg typ than Y rare did which clapped u

That is a clear build issue

If I die with average gear in 60-70 without corruption frequently enough to make a difference, I should have a nap until I’m sober.

LE’s not that difficult of a game.

There’s probably a common factor there, but I’m not quite sure what it is. I’ll just wait till my emotional outburst subsides before thinking moar deepleyerer. Maybe play some whale song.

Personally, I’d go to an easier area (lower corruption, earlier area in the campaign, etc) & either farm some gear for a bit or level up a bit for more passives or tweak my build a little. Though I also tend not to craft much 'cause I’m lazy so that would likely help.

Yes, but you aren’t there yet. You’re not at thousands of corruption, nor are you doing Uberroth.

If you say so. But sometimes we need to accept that the problem is ourselves, especially when the majority of players don’t have this issue. But hey, maybe they’re lieing to themselves.

Potentially a crit. I’ve not had that problem & there’s a lot that could be done to improve the defences of your characters.

Curious what the build was.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes, don’t be Sith.

Have you highlighted the affixes you need so you can get them with runes of removals/shattering? Do you have an effective loot filter set up to highlight the gear that would be useful to craft on? Do you have an aspirational build planner that you’re aiming for & then set your loot filter up to highlight gear with 2-3 of those affixes on each slot (this is what I do, may not be the best way but fuckit)?

Not really, but ok. Unless you’re referring to the posts that were made before the patch that fixed the bug (1.3.1, 7 days ago, first post was 10 days ago) everyone was complaining about?

You hide that about as well as my ex wife hid her mental state (which was phenomenally well if you couldn’t work that out).

The phrase “wet paper towel” in this instance is being used to refer to his defences, not his dps.

Uniques aren’t always the best in slot, you may well find your defences improve if you use a reasonable base (maybe a gold ring with a decent roll) & 2 useful suffixes (the defensive affixes) rather than a unique.

It can, but your builds … have a lot that can be improved.

Did you actually try them on the training dummy?

It’s a dead point since the character isn’t DW, but that means he’s not taking the extra damage.

Oh? It’s not active when not dual-wielding actually? Didn’t know that!
Very good to know though… probably written there and I ignored it as I took it as a given :stuck_out_tongue:

Here is the planner,

https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/Av6XwgYA

That is the build planner for the t4 Julra tank, at the time that vid was recoreded. Current build has swapped for dual wield and vessel of strife for more EHP but less DPS.

The general idea is , stack HP regen that turns into % cold damage,
Add as much flat cold damage as I can to earthquake.
Use idols to proc EQ aftershocks.
Go fast with tempest strike.

Dude u have been proven wrong countless times.

Bro every single one of us talking to u here can literally see ur builds. One deflecting is u. Many of us have used evidence to prove its ur build period

Ur builds are all public u cant hide or lie about them whe. We can see all of it

Tbh if getting crafring materials is a struggle for u to figure out. Which is piss easy to do. Just going to say it. This genra probably isn’t for u.

Reading is hard, eh?
https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/frustratingly-unplayable-due-to-damage-spikes/79136/6

Guys, I ran out of popcorn. So I have two critical pieces of information for you:

  • you all missed the very important fact that “she knows” when the problem is her and “can tell” when it isn’t her. I bet that’s why she literally followed a guide and still managed to mess it up
  • she set the topic on “muted”, so she won’t even receive notifications that you replied here. “Pearls thrown to the swine” am I right? (luckily the chance she reads a muted topic is likely non-zero  )

Given that it can survive the aptly named “6k damage + 2k overkill” hypothetical situation descibed by her, maybe you should call the build “over the top extreme overkill survivor”
