Just wondering but does anyone else here know why FPS would be dropping in town while idling?
My background applications are all turned off and the FPS will range from as low as 10 to as high at 90 and I’m just standing there.
Does anyone else experience this? I’ve tried the usual changing resolutions, settings graphics to low, changing from full screen to windowed and borderless.
I just don’t know why the FPS varies so greatly when literally nothing is happening in the game. Seems like something is happening but it’s not clear what exactly.
The game when loading takes up to 4GB of dedicated GPU memory before it even hits the login window.
I’m not sure where the GPU is being spent when loading a game…it’s almost like the game is trying to load in all the models and 3D stuff into memory before even going into the game which is nice when you have a powerful machine but mine isn’t and it’s above system requirements for the game but it isn’t powerful by any means.
Also the issue seems to really occur on a nightly basis for me, during the day it seems alright but when night time comes it does get rather chuggy and sitting in town idling at 5 or so FPS isn’t fun and makes me just quit the game altogether.
The sad reality is that I can’t even get a refund on the game because Steam says I’ve played more than 2hrs lol yea I’ve put in now almost 50+ hrs
Well whatever I’ll just quit and come back later hopefully when the game has gotten a bit more optimizations put into it. Or else I guess it’s just my loss. Sigh I didn’t think it would be THIS bad.
I’m starting to suspect a memory swap issue with my graphics card, it’s a GTX 970 so it’s pretty old and it’s got 4GB of video memory which doesn’t seem like enough for this game.
Oddly though when I start fresh in the day the game runs smooth at like 150+ FPS at my 1280x720 LOWEST settings but after half way through a monolith epoch it goes to doing the FPS flopping from 100 to 10.
When I restart my computer or shut down and let it rest and boot up again it still does the FPS flopping so I’m a bit puzzled why it doesn’t go back to being smooth even for a brief moment again.
I’ve pretty much given up at this point trying to get this game to work, when I try to do emp monolith echoes I just die because I can’t even respond when the game is running at like 5-10 FPS
Today was better, I was able to play for a few hours without any issues then all of a sudden later in the day it started doing the usual FPS variable thing. I starting to think that it’s perhaps just some bad netcode or it’s my video card not being able to keep up. Just makes me puzzled because if it was a video card issue it would be pretty consistent but there are moments when it works but shortly right after a bit of playing it goes to turdland.
Well I’ll keep posting until the issue is resolved and I’ll try and relay what I did to fix it.
So far I’ve tried using older stable drivers for the graphics card (seemed to get a bit better but FPS issue still the same), cleaned out the PC from dust bunnies (PC got cleaned for nothing), moved the game to the SSD drive (made no difference).
Today has been no good. Wasn’t able to play at all, perhaps all of 10 minutes. If I let my computer shut down and let it rest for a couple hours then boot up and play I can play for about five minutes then it’s back to the FPS issues.
Is it possibly related to my graphics card overheating? I’m seeing temps of 46-50 Celsius and the VRAM is consistently at 3GB on a 4GB limit.
There wasn’t any variables from yesterday to today so it’s a mystery why it’s happening today only after a few minutes of gameplay. The outside temperature is a wee bit hotter but it’s not that drastic.
